#018 (rebroadcast) Too Soon for Black Humour? [Cosmic Dynamics]
It might be a good time to open a chapter on humour, the most powerful tool of them all… I like to think :) It’s fair to say that it plays a central role in the media environment, it shapes how we understand ideas, social boundaries and even logic. Tomorrow for our weekly live mix I will be revisiting an interview I produced last year with Pieter de Poortere, the creator of the hilarious comics character Dickie Cosmic Dynamics is also available on Spotify & on podcast apps. #022 (rebroadcast) Sexing Up the Root Causes [Cosmic Dynamics]
This episode features “Paisatges de Plàstic”  an art piece by Elena Villalba, Xénia Cros, Pau Galceràn, Oriol Ruiz and Lydia Moreno from the Art School of Olot @artdissenyolot in Catalunya. There are things  happening in the world that are extremely harmful to society and to the environment, but are quite... boring to talk about. Boring because it’s complex, It’s visually non appealing, it’s distant, it’s silent, it’s grey… How do we deal with this as a society, in an era where people's attention span is shorter than ever and the competitive media landscape pushes content production to the edges of dramatic, sensational, crazy, and... “you won’t believe what happens next”? This is a real question for artists, storytellers and other influencers of culture who care about impact: how do we deal with “important, but not sexy”… *Useful links are featured in the episode notes on www.cosmic.show Cosmic Dynamics is also available on Spotify & on podcast apps. #019 (rebroadcast) Paradigms & the Truth Labyrinth - Part 1 [Cosmic Dynamics]
History, and daily life keeps showing us how vulnerable we are to ‘the truth’. What is the truth? 🧐 We think something is true, until it’s not true anymore, until there is a better truth… a better truth because it became demonstrably true, and contradicts or suppresses the previous one. 👍👎👀 This episode is the first one of our deep dive on paradigms. #017 (rebroadcast) Unleashing a Legion of Story Monsters [Cosmic Dynamics]
“Things have never been so good for humanity” “There’s never been a better time to be alive” “We’ve never had it so good than right now”. These couple of lines are very meaningful because when we accept this narrative as a truth, we open the door to a legion of story monsters that invade culture and society’s common sense. In connection to this episode I am featuring the work of Scott Listfield, who’s known for his paintings featuring a lone exploratory astronaut lost in a landscape cluttered with pop culture icons, corporate logos, and tongue-in-cheek science fiction references. It’s a great way to reflect on the present, the past and the future maybe? Remember it starts with the words we pick, and the stories we chose to tell. #033 - Do NOT Listen To This Episode - part 2
Do NOT listen to this episode. Features the poem “Negation” by Wallace Stevens: Hi! The creator too is blind, Struggling toward his harmonious whole, Rejecting intermediate parts, Horrors and falsities and wrongs; Incapable master of all force, Too vague idealist, overwhelmed By an afflatus that persists. For this, then, we endure brief lives, The evanescent symmetries From that meticulous potter's thumb. Cosmic Dynamics is also available on Spotify & on podcast apps. Thank you for tuning in.🎧 Camille

#031 - Music & Language - Part 2 [Cosmic Dynamics]
Can music avoid the need for these words that have become so… limiting in many ways. Can it expand our horizons across human processes and have some sort of a regenerative effect on human communications? We are preparing an experiment on this topic, involving musicians, words, and a tough communication challenge. If you want to participate or attend from online, please send us an email at hello@cosmic.show and we’ll tell you more about it, we’re working on the how right now and will mail the Cosmic community when we have a detailed program. In this soundtrack by @christianscottofficial you can hear the immense talent of flutist @ElenaPinderhughes, which I am symbolically connecting to this episode and to this 40 000 year-old bone flute crafted in mammoth ivory. #030 - Music & Language - Part 1 [Cosmic Dynamics]
Which one came first? Music or language? Any idea? And what does it say about the little situation we’re in right now, as humans? Art piece of the day: Logos, a remarkable album by French jazz trio Zylia.  They put forward a very sophisticated language, at a moment of human history where our relation to words and language has become so cynical... #029 - Undoing Social Art Space Contradiction [Cosmic Dynamics]
In the art space, when a gallery or museum showcases work about #social or #environmental issues, there sometimes is an uncomfortable contradiction between the context and messages conveyed by the art pieces on display, and what the exhibition space emanates. Have you experienced that? Or is it just me…? @zerowasteexhibition seems to be taking steps in the right direction to align the experience of the exhibition with the messaging of the showing. #028 - The Structure of Your Mental World. [Cosmic Dynamics]
Art piece of the day by Julie Cambell It’s quite disarming to realise that the way we experience life is mostly based on the structure of our mental world, and that the structure of our mental world affects our reality. Is it that obvious? Is this true? How so? And what does it mean for the stories we tell and the work we produce as artists and influencers of culture? Cosmic #52 - Giving Yourself the Permission To Be Creative - w/ Jasmine Pradissitto
“Imagination is more important than knowledge” 🧠(Einstein). It makes a nice quote on instagram but are we really considering this as a society?🤔 With society and culture increasingly relying on the left brain, we are removing ourselves from our full capacities as a species. Artist & Physicist Jasmine Pradissitto @jasmine_pradissitto joined me on Cosmic Live to remind us how we can reclaim our creative selves and reconnect with the creative geniuses that we are at   5⃣  years of age. The real question is: are we giving ourselves the permission to be truly creative? Useful links are featured on www.cosmic.show website Cosmic is also available on Spotify & on podcast apps. Note: This is not Boris Johnson, this is Jacques Lacan. Both talk about symbols. At very different levels and with very different intentions though 🙃 We are organising a workshop on theory of change and this tricky maneuver of moving from symbolic actions to establishing new societal “structures”, in the context of social and environmental movements.🍃♻ You can indicate your interest at hello@cosmic.show This episode features soundtracks by @sirwas & @neilcowleymusic 🎶🎵 Cosmic Dynamics is also available on Spotify & on podcast apps. Today we feature a piece from Austrian performance artists & architects Honey & Bunny. One strategy that has been used quite a bit over the last years in change communications, and in particular in food industry documentary films is the use of disgust … to turn people off meat consumption for instance. #024 - Reframing the Narratives of Violence & Racism [Cosmic Dynamics]
Recalling the work of Paul Rucker, from 2018 in Richmond. Years go by and structural racism keeps on haunting society, pretty much everywhere on the Planet. #023 - Magic Messaging in a Song [Cosmic Dynamics]
No talking today, just a song that magically came up in my playlist while I was writing up yesterday’s episode (Cosmic #022). A beautiful art piece by Daughter, which illustrates masterful messaging, and masterful execution, and a song written from intentions that may be completely different from the ones we may  be assuming… who knows? That’s what’s cosmic about it randomly popping up yesterday….Enjoy! Lyrics from the song “Landfill” by Daughter Throw me in a landfill Don't think about the consequences Throw me in the dirt pit Don't think about the choices that you make Throw me in the water Don't think about the splash I will create Leave me at the altar Knowing all the things you just escaped Push me out to sea On a little boat that you made Out of the evergreen that you helped your father cut away Leave me on the tracks To wait until the morning train arrives Don't you dare look back Walk away Catch up with the sunrise 'Cause this is torturous electricity Between both of us and this is Dangerous 'cause I want you so much But I hate your guts I hate you So leave me in the cold Wait until the snow covers me up So I cannot move So I'm just embedded in the frost Then leave me in the rain Wait until my clothes cling to my frame Wipe away your tear stains Thought you said you didn't feel pain Well this is torturous electricity Between both of us and this is Dangerous, 'cause I want you so much But I hate your guts. I want you so much But I hate your guts. Well this is torturous Electricity between both of us And this is dangerous 'cause I want you so much But I hate your guts I want you so much but I hate your guts *Useful Links are featured in the episode notes on www.cosmic.show Cosmic Dynamics is also available on Spotify & on podcast apps. #015 - Humans As Coral Reefs [Cosmic Dynamics]
It’s quite interesting to note how the idea of fragility has taken so much protagonism in just a few weeks. A nation like the United States, incarnating power, robust economy, and opportunity is now counting 33million people unemployed, when the employment rate was the highest in decades just a couple of months ago. Still, fragile is not a word we like to pronounce as humans… Today I am featuring the beautiful - and fragile - work of Courtney Mattison, an artist based in LA who has been raising awareness about the fragility of coral reefs via her large-scale ceramic sculptural works. Cosmic #46 - Healing Generational Trauma - w/ Enam Gbewonyo
Many of us are experiencing some form of generational trauma. Psychic legacies are often passed on through unconscious cues or affective messages that flow between adult and child. Sometimes anxiety falls from one generation to the next through the stories that are told. Here again, the artistic practice can help. This week we dive into the work of Enam Gbewonyo, a cosmic British Ghanaian Artist and Curator who clearly figured out how to deal with this! The insights from this episode also support and clarify a wider collection of narratives about the work we (very probably) need to do within vs. what we expect from “the outside”. #001 - A Coffee With Dali [Cosmic Dynamics]
“Each morning after breakfast I like to start the day by earning twenty thousand dollars.” This is a quote form Salvador Dali. He used to sign blank sheets of paper as well as drawings from random people to make quick cash. It’s estimated that he signed over 350k sheets of paper in his career. This episode is about confusion. You can send me your thoughts at hello@cosmic.show or via DM on Twitter or Instagram

Cosmic #41 - Youth, Changing Your Mind and Steering the Titanic - w/ Crista Valentino
Last month, I heard that the future belongs to the youth of the world. Would you agree? It feels like the youth is playing an important role indeed in the last year of climate mobilisation, with the school strikes etc. but in practice: how influential are young leaders in the boardrooms of the world? Are they even there to begin with? It was time to bring someone with field experience and a long list of ideas on the topic. Over the last few years at Coalition Wild, Crista Valentino trained over a thousand young leaders in 107 countries to unleash their potential to drive action projects in their community. Youth’s voice in decision making is a favorite topic of hers and I brought challenging questions, like “why are we marching for climate exactly?” or “Where do we expect serious answers come from” “How come so many organisations have become obsolete?”. Then she flipped this into a vibrant live therapy session I sure didn’t expect. Once more, I was reminded about how complex it is to change your mind. But how necessary! And you? What’s the last thing you changed your mind about? We keep in touch. Resourcefully, from somewhere in the Cosmos,✨☄ Camille. ------- Links & References: Crista’s Instagram profile, a great case for spending more time in nature. Cosmic #40 - An Intro to Waste Colonialism, Craft & Forgetting Time - w/ Soukaina Aziz El Idrissi
Forgetting time is not something we generally feel comfortable with. We know it’s good for the mind, but hey, when will I get my work done? And the logistics of family life? I can’t just sit and lose myself into an activity that will take me away from my schedule! Sounds familiar?

Cosmic #39 - Economic Disobedience & Building Radical Alternatives to State Power - w/ Enric Duran
A lot of intense questions this week, and a controversial guest => heavy risk of denial. Let’s be honest: Do we really believe that alternative structures can flourish from within the existing system, supported by nation states? It feels like we don’t really want to accept the answer to this fundamental question, because the consequences would be profound.

Cosmic #38 - Leading the Coffee Farm Revolution- w/ Marcos Croce (FAF)
I have a positive coffee story for you today. A drop of genius and hope in the dark ocean of bitterness. This is where transition always starts isn’t it? When I found out that with each cup of commercial - or fairtrade - coffee that we drink we perpetuate extreme poverty and child labour, I was ready to fall into denial . I was thinking about all of the cups of coffee I had in my life...

Cosmic #37 - Learning how To Seize the Moment - w/ Pål Martensson
Yes, season 2 is starting strong! You must have noticed the doors of true systemic change are most often closed. And shifting the paradigm requires learning how to open them:) Today I am bringing you the best door-opener I know of - he can go talk to the King without an invitation - hijack an audience when you least expect it or crack jokes on very slippery slopes. Here we are. Season 2. I am very enthusiastic about this new podcast series and am looking forward to hearing what you think about it. As a quick reminder, from now on, we are going to increase our focus on paradigm shift - beyond “just change making”. And shifting the paradigm starts by changing the language we use, and the stories we tell as change makers.

It’s just you and me today. I am on a summer vacation, somewhere deep in the mountains - I am taking a break from interviewing and from my other projects - trying to use this time for reflection. Punctuated by some of my favorite songs in my August playlists, I share some reflections about the future of the show (season 2 starting soon!), and tell the story of how Cosmic got started, 33 episodes ago.

It’s a positive story. Across the Amazon, alliances of indigenous people are becoming more and more effective. Cosmic #32 - What It Means to Be Human - Wade Davis & Camille Duran
What does it mean to be human? And what if emojis are taking over? The development model of our societies clearly involves ethnocide: we kill languages and we kill cultures. Are we paying attention? How much does diversity of languages actually matter? In Cosmic #23, we started a quest exploring what connects languages, culture & power. In this episode, I take a deeper dive with someone who lived a unique range of experiences with the most remote communities on the planet.

Cosmic #30 - Building Resilience & Stimulating Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets - W/ Alisée de Tonnac
The rest is taking over the West. This week I learnt that change in emerging markets is to a great extent driven by entrepreneurs and startups who are shaking markets from the bottom up, often threatening industry and public services with product and service disruptions that simply do a better job than what established players have offered so far. Even NGOs can see the rug pulled from under their feet. There must be a reason for it!

Cosmic #29 - Embracing Risk, Pooling Funds & Activating New Economic Models (Philanthropy Special) - W/ Leslie Harroun
How are you thinking around risk? Are you a high-risk high-reward kind of person? And what if you had only a limited amount of time to achieve the impossible? This type of questions becomes very real when looking at climate change. If 10 years is all we have to reverse the destructive trend we initiated, shouldn't we be getting out of the safe zone and fundamentally rethink the rulebook?

Cosmic #27 - A Framework for Psychedelics, Entheogens & Expanding Your Consciousness - W/ Ben De Loenen
Really? An episode about psychedelics? Yes. There are plants that we have been taking for milliners and that we don’t know how to deal with anymore. As we are standing at a moment in time where expanding our consciousness is fundamental to our survival, it is hard not to cover consciousness expanding substances. Not an easy topic because there is a lot of confusion going on, it’s controversial and the space is facing many challenges:

Cosmic #26 - Building Leadership & Making Yourself Redundant (Philanthropy Special) - W/ Thierry Renaud
It was time to talk about money. With this episode, I am opening a discussion about where funding for impact comes from, and how to unleash its true potential. Needless to say this will take more than one interview: there is a lot to discover on how philanthropy, impact investment, public funds and other financial schemes work, and what needs to improve if we are to get things back in order on our Blue Planet.

Cosmic #24 - Conscious Coffee, Sensory Experiences & the Very Little Things - W/ Kim Ossenblok
What is your relationship with coffee? Millions of people around the world work blood, sweat and tears so we can all enjoy this one cup of magic potion every morning. Truly, most of us have some kind of addiction to the coffee moment. This one cup is subject to much debate - guilt sometimes - and dreams, more and more. The world of coffee is changing and I wanted to give it proper attention to find out what learnings we can draw from what turned into a key commodity on financial markets.

Cosmic #23 - The Power of Language, Street Art & Writing on the Walls - W/ Kool Koor
“I never realised what was on the walls was so deep”. Their writing is on the walls. We pass in front of it everyday. Tags, calligraphy, “graffiti” (as the mainstream refers to it) or other forms of street art that sometimes disrupt our neighborhoods, trains and public spaces. Most of us don’t really pay attention, others call it vandalism, and just a few truly understand what it has to offer.

I made a deal with Andreina: one day we will host a big party in a culturally rich, vibrant and healthy Venezuela to celebrate how far the Venezuelan people have come since 2019. Right now, the situation is more than critical, as you may know. This episode is not about re-doing the regular media coverage that the crisis is getting. It's the story of creative people smuggling medical supplies into the country while humanitarian aid is blocked and often repressed.
