This is an audio clip from the live video "Is disgusting people a good idea?" streamed the 11th of february 2021, availabe here: https://youtu.be/jKVDr4AvCPQ.

Is Disgusting People a Good Idea?  One strategy that has been used quite a bit over the last years in change communications, and in particular in food industry documentary films 🍕🥩🍖🧀is the use of disgust 🤢… to turn people off meat consumption for instance. Is disgust a good strategy? Does it work? With who? Under what conditions? What should we know?🤔

The Artist & The Impact Frame [Clip from Live - 09/02/2021]

The Artist & The Impact Frame [Clip from Live - 09/02/2021]

This is an audio clip from the live video "The Artist & The Impact Frame"  streamed the 9th of february 2021, available here: https://youtu.be/wkpyiaaut4o

Measuring social and environmental impact is a slippery slope! And even more for the share of artists who consider the impact factor in their work.  One very legitimate question that often gets asked is: “how much of the left brain should the artist put into framing a production” and is it really the artist's role to think about impact?

The short answer is: “only you can answer!”

The longer answer is Camille’s clarification of Cosmic’s perspective in this video.

This is an audio clip from the live video "Impact Investment & The Right Brain" streamed the 21st of January 2021, available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSot39aqFfI

As interest in “the right brain side” of human society is growing, the buzz around “boosting the creative economy” can get confusing. Does investing in creative industries mean more money towards Culture & the Arts? Not quite...

Let’s assume the problem is “the other” or in “the other”; social and environmental demands to “an other” are intrinsically linked to a demand to disidentify. Camille takes us through this concept that we know… until we forget it again.

#43 - The Mirrors in You [Cosmic Dynamics]

I’m actually not surprised the US election turned into such a tight race. Actually, just the fact that the current President would even have a chance to win again - after all of the scandals and tweets and political horror of the last four years, that very fact is not surprising at all… Why? Because there is one thing he knows very well and most people don’t…

#042 - I Don't Have Time [Cosmic Dynamics]

Our relationship to the present moment has been broadly dying across western culture for decades now, because of the narratives, the structures, the systems that make it so “time is money”, the narratives that make it so we don’t have the time, and so we listen to podcasts in 2X.

Thank you for tuning in, Camille.

“I have been listening to podcasts for close to a decade now and cosmic is the first one that I'm listening to at 1x. I know it doesn't seem like much but this is the first show to prompt me to take my time. To go slow. To relax and still move with conviction that change can be brought”.

This episode is a tribute to taking the time.

#039 - Knowledge is Useless [Cosmic Dynamics]

It happened after a long day. It was like...11pm,  I was tired, laying down on my sofa, ready to go to bed. Checking in messages and stuff on my smartphone. And for whatever reason, I mechanically opened Linkedin and started browsing publications, which I very rarely do… even in the daytime. Scrolling down a couple of times. And here it was, the perfect trap, in my feed. Of course, I fell into it…

This episode features the work of Stefan Kuhnigk @thecoffeemonsters. He draws monsters from coffee stains, I love his work, and it’s the perfect way to reflect on the systemic stains made by the conventional coffee world, and clarify how we should go about it.

Stay tuned.

#038 - The Argument Tragedy [Cosmic Dynamics]

Do you ever argue with your partner, with your roommate, with your mother, or whoever you are living with. Yes? Maybe? I am sure you noticed that what you argue about is never really the reason for the argument. Couples don’t break up because one of them did not empty the dishwasher...

It seems there is always something bigger, something unacknowledged that is overshadowing the apparent topic of the argument. Right?

Today we are featuring the Sculpture “Migratory Soul” by Josh Keyes which you can find here: https://www.instagram.com/joshkeyes.art/

#037 - Cosmic Trip [Cosmic Dynamics]

There is a story I have been wanting to tell for a few days, but I was too busy pinching myself because I couldn’t believe what was actually happening.

Ok, it’s time… Last week, when getting to my desk, there was a package on the table. I have no idea how it got here. It had “Cosmic” written on it. So I opened it. There was a postcard in there, handwritten with a sort of weird glowing ink that I had to put in the sunlight for maximum clarity. I couldn’t believe what was written on it, and what else was in this package...

#036 - The Air Time Dilemma [Cosmic Dynamics]

If you produce art, media, stories about what’s going on in the world, there is one tough decision you’re probably dealing with, especially if you have a significant following..

How much air time should I give to this topic, to this story, … isn’t it getting enough air time already? How is my piece influencing the discussion, really? Let’s deconstruct what’s going on here: let’s talk about how air time impacts our lives…

#018 (rebroadcast) Too Soon for Black Humour? [Cosmic Dynamics]

It might be a good time to open a chapter on humour, the most powerful tool of them all… I like to think :)

It’s fair to say that it plays a central role in the media environment, it shapes how we understand ideas, social boundaries and even logic.

Tomorrow for our weekly live mix I will be revisiting an interview I produced last year with Pieter de Poortere, the creator of the hilarious comics character Dickie

#019 (rebroadcast) Paradigms & the Truth Labyrinth - Part 1 [Cosmic Dynamics]

History, and daily life keeps showing us how vulnerable we are to ‘the truth’. What is the truth? 🧐

We think something is true, until it’s not true anymore, until there is a better truth… a better truth because it became demonstrably true, and contradicts or suppresses the previous one. 👍👎👀

This episode is the first one of our deep dive on paradigms. It features the work of the Yes Men

#029 - Undoing Social Art Space Contradiction [Cosmic Dynamics]

In the art space, when a gallery or museum showcases

work about #social or #environmental issues, there sometimes is an uncomfortable contradiction between the context and messages conveyed by the art pieces on display, and what the exhibition space emanates. Have you experienced that? Or is it just me…?

@zerowasteexhibition seems to be taking steps in the right direction to align the experience of the exhibition with the messaging of the showing. Don’t miss if you’re around Leipzig this week!

#023 - Magic Messaging in a Song [Cosmic Dynamics]

No talking today, just a song that magically came up in my playlist while I was writing up yesterday’s episode (Cosmic #022). A beautiful art piece by Daughter, which illustrates masterful messaging, and masterful execution, and a song written from intentions that may be completely different from the ones we may  be assuming… who knows? That’s what’s cosmic about it randomly popping up yesterday….Enjoy!

Lyrics from the song “Landfill” by Daughter

Throw me in a landfill

Don't think about the consequences

Throw me in the dirt pit

Don't think about the choices that you make

Throw me in the water

Don't think about the splash I will create

Leave me at the altar

Knowing all the things you just escaped

Push me out to sea

On a little boat that you made

Out of the evergreen that you helped your father cut away

Leave me on the tracks

To wait until the morning train arrives

Don't you dare look back

Walk away

Catch up with the sunrise

'Cause this is torturous electricity

Between both of us and this is

Dangerous 'cause I want you so much

But I hate your guts

I hate you

So leave me in the cold

Wait until the snow covers me up

So I cannot move

So I'm just embedded in the frost

Then leave me in the rain

Wait until my clothes cling to my frame

Wipe away your tear stains

Thought you said you didn't feel pain

Well this is torturous electricity

Between both of us and this is

Dangerous, 'cause I want you so much

But I hate your guts. I want you so much

But I hate your guts.

Well this is torturous

Electricity between both of us

And this is dangerous 'cause I want you so much

But I hate your guts

I want you so much but I hate your guts
