This Friday, March 25th, marks the 111th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. Over a hundred garment workers died that day in Greenwich Village. Historians say many more people could have survived the 1911 fire were it not for the sweatshop's poor safety conditions. Long ago the site was purchased by NYU and renamed the Brown Building, which now houses science labs. WNYU's Nandini Gupta has more on the tragic fire and its aftermath.


Marissa Monroe calls herself a Texas parent girl turned NYC princezzz. Spelled with 3 zs. Right after graduating NYU Tisch School of the Arts last year, she opened up her own private tattoo studio in Manhattan. She talked to me about how she creates a safe tattooing space for women and non-binary folks, where she draws her feminine art inspiration from, and finally, what it's like to be a female in a male-dominated industry.


Are students on campus experiencing more sexual harassment ? Nia Watson reports on the Red Zone and the rise in street harassment since the return to campus this year 


The state of Oregon is setting out to decriminalize sex work. Elizabeth Carlisle talks to Anna Wilkings, an NYU professor and licensed sex therapist and social worker, about what the realities of sex work and what decriminalizing it would entail. Here’s the story.


The US-backed war in Yemen has resulted in a humanitarian crisis. Indications that the Biden Administration has not yet taken action to end support for the war, activists have been protesting to educate the public about the conflict and ways to resist it. Nina Huang Nina Huang went to a protest in Union Square to talk to protestors on the matter.

Finley Muratova is a student-journalist and a Russian Ukrainian senior at NYU. Their father, Dmitri Muratov, won the Nobel peace prize for his work as editor-in-chief of Russia's Novaya Gazeta. This week, Finley wrote an open letter to NYU's president, Andy Hamilton, asking for his support in aiding students affected by the war in Ukraine. Grace Wanebo has the story. 


Last Friday, experts from Columbia University and NYU sat down together and talked about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  Kristen Wen has the story.

Sachin Sundar spoke to Zachary Gillespie, an alumnus of NYU’s prison education program, for his insights on the situation inside Rikers. Musicians are getting creative with their performing venues in Harlem. Aria Young has the story. Working-class immigrant cab drivers have been financially ruined by unpayable medallion debt as a direct result of city policy. For several weeks, activists have been picketing outside city hall to demand city-backed guarantee on medallion debt for taxi drivers. Here’s the story. Vaishnavi Naidu is the Managing Editor at NYU's magazine, Under the Arch.
