On this episode of CommonVoice, host Jamie Reilly sits down with Rebecca Alper, assistant professor of communication sciences and disorders at Temple University, to discuss her work in early childhood language development. Dr. Reilly and Dr. Alper discuss one of the big challenges for intervention work with young children: the delay in seeing the rewards of such work and how critical it is to improving health.

Licensed as a speech-language pathologist, Dr. Alper also has graduate training in biostatistics and is an active researcher. She combines her love of clinical work in child language development with her interest in improving language, academic and health outcomes of at-risk children through family-centered early language and literacy intervention. On this episode of CommonVoice, host Jamie Reilly sits down with Jeni Stolow, assistant professor of instruction in social and behavioral sciences, to discuss topics ranging from social determinants of health to global health issues. Dr. Stolow is trained in behavioral science at the intersection of public health, medical anthropology and infectious disease outbreaks. She has experience in risk communication, health promotion and community-based participatory research.
