Jasmine and Alex sit down with artist Bettina Matzkuhn to discuss the book Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry, which tells the story of Kira. Set in a dystopian future following the sudden death of her mother, Kira the weaver finds herself having to defend her life but is pardoned through her ability to weave and dye threads. Creativity, society, gender roles and kindess are some of the themes touched on during this episode.

Artist Twyla Exner joins Alex & Jasmine to talk about her process, inspirations and how she incorporates sustainability in her practice. This May episode includes a feature of Crafted Vancouver – Carrie Ross, ED & founder tells us about this year’s festival and how it has shifted in the face of the challenges during the pandemic.

Kwakwaka’wakw artist, curator and arts advocate Lou-ann Neel and policy manager Ainslee Beer join Jasmine & Alex to discuss appropriation and authenticity in craft.

In the introductory episode, Alex and Jasmine discuss the history of CCBC and the advocacy work done today by the arts service organization. Invited guest and longtime CCBC member, Lou Lynn, joins Alex and Jasmine to discuss her experience as a member of the council, and the Saidye Bronfman Award, which was recently granted to the visual and glass artist.
