Paige King Johnson 2024 Interview with CWC

Welcome Friends and thank you for connecting with us for another wonderful episode of CWC! In Today's episode we catch up with our good friend Paige King Johnson and talk about new music, life, and exciting things happening in 2024. Meet Paige: In a quiet North Carolina town 22 miles south of Raleigh, as a young 9-year-old girl, Paige King Johnson spent her days imitating the styles of Loretta, Patsy, Waylon, and Merle. Having a grandpa as her biggest fan also meant receiving the gift of her first guitar – a baby Taylor - and enrolling in lessons. After her grandpa passed, the bright-eyed dreamer carried on his memory by taking her newfound discovery to local fairs, festivals, and any other stage she was allowed to stand on. As she grew older, Johnson added “opening act” to her resume, supporting chart topping artists like Kane Brown, Oliver Anthony, Joe Nichols, Gabby Barrett, Diamond Rio, Scotty McCreery, Kylie Morgan, Neal McCoy and more. And with high school graduation came the realization that this was more than a hobby. The Angier native traded in horse pastures for the bright lights of Music City in 2015. Upon starting school at Belmont University for Music Business, Johnson honed in on the magic that had heavily influenced her as a child: the art of storytelling thru songwriting. Carley of Silverspark Interview

Carley of Silverspark Interview

Welcome Friends and thank you for connecting with us for an amazing episode of CWC! In today's episode, Paula and Donna meet up with the talented Carley Callaghan of Silverspark!

Silverspark Bio:

After a chance meeting in London, songwriters Carley Callaghan and Matt Phillips began their story. Within 6 months of meeting, they had quit their day jobs to take a leap of faith and build a career in music. Sacrificing many of life's comforts, they honed their craft performing covers at weddings and events to pay the bills and wrote their first song together backstage at a show. Those early songs, Carley’s soulful voice and Matt’s captivating guitar playing meant they quickly grew a loyal fan base and played at iconic circuit venues such as The Musician, The Jericho Tavern, and the O2 Academy. Radio support from regional BBC stations, and College Radio in the US, further cemented them as a band to watch. Just as momentum was building, SilverSpark faced some unexpected twists in the road, including COVID-19, which left them on hiatus.....until now.

For Carley and Matt, the fire burns strong, and with a desire to get back to their roots as a duo. With their love of real instrumentation and evocative storytelling, the authenticity of country music has always been in their blood. Growing up, Matt was listening to REM, The Eagles, and The Rolling Stones, whilst Carley was singing Patsy Cline songs and had Shania Twain, Faith Hill and LeAnn Rimes on repeat. It's this rich melting pot of influences, including some of the greatest storytellers of all time, that inspire SilverSpark to take the listener on a journey. Whether it’s one of heartbreak or redemption, hope or defiance, throughout their lyrics as in their daily lives, they always wear their hearts on their sleeves.

'The Last Time' is the first single in this new chapter; a powerful anthem for anyone who has seen the warning signs in a relationship and knows they need to escape before it's too late.

Jaye Madison Interview with CWC

Jaye Madison Interview with CWC

Welcome Friends! Thank you for joining us for a new episode of Crazy Women Country! In Today's Episode, I had the opportunity to meet with the talented twin sister duo of Jaye Madison! The Nashville-based, Texas-born twins, Jordan Skinner and Madison Skinner, are sisters and songwriters, a duality that nourishes an already intrinsic yin and yang that binds the duo both in music and in life. Originally from Lumberton, TX, a hop, skip, and a jump away from Janis Joplin’s hometown of Port Arthur, their environment heavily influenced their sound. “Southern is a way of life, and we lived it surrounded by country, folk, and blues music from Elvis, Willie Nelson, Etta James, and The Judds,” says Jordan, “but we also have a love of classic rock, spending hours dancing in the living room to The Eagles, Heart, Chicago, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, and every 70s and 80s hit you can imagine.” They grew up singing, studying, and honing their vocal skills and performing in community theater, dreaming of a career in music one day, but they were, as the duo recalls, “songwriter late bloomers” who didn’t even write their first song until they headed to Nashville after they were accepted into the Commercial Voice program at Belmont University. “When we got there, we quickly realized we’d have to sharpen our writing skills immensely if we wanted to do this for real,” says Jordan. Living in Nashville has propelled them forward in achieving their dream. Being surrounded by such talent forced them to either step up or give up and they weren’t about to give up. “When you’re in Nashville you’re a songwriter and musician first,” says Madison. “No one asks you what your day job is even though everyone has one...and probably two others. There’s a charming steeliness to the artists in town who have had to not only fight for opportunities but their individuality as writers and performers. It challenges you. It humbles you. It makes you face your ego.” You can hear all these musical influences and the experience of living in Nashville on Jaye Madison’s upcoming trilogy of EP releases that make up MIRЯOR, which, as a whole concept, is their debut album. They recorded it at Revolver Recordings in Los Angeles with Grammy-Award-winning producer Mikal Blue (OneRepublic, Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz), Co-producer Dean Dinning and Josh Daubin of Toad the Wet Sprocket, Michael Ward (Guitar) of The Wallflowers, and songwriter Dalton Cyr (Piano and Guitar). The totality of the EPs follows Jaye Madison on their real-life journey of self-discovery and self-reflection as they navigates life in their 20’s. “Jordan’s writing leans more towards the light side, mine leans towards the dark,” says Madison. “So together those sounds create soulful introspection that feels like a painting of realistic womanhood. Joy, sadness, anger - we cover it all.” They combine their favorite parts of folk, country, and classic rock into their own sound and create the perfect mixture of all the music they grew up with. “We write what we know, and what we know is who we are,” says Jordan. In Today's episode, I was honored to have the opportunity to talk with beautiful legend and fellow PA gal Ms. Lacy J Dalton!

Lacy J Dalton has one of the most recognizable voices in music with smoothness and grit. In 1979, she won the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist of the Year and was signed by Columbia Records. Widely known as an Outlaw Country artists before her time, she was one of few women who opened for Hank Williams Jr, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Charlie Daniels. One of her Iconic songs, "16th Avenue" was also written by a fellow PA guy Mr. Thomas Schuyler, which became and still is an anthem for Nashville Songwriters!

Among her awards, in 2017 inducted into the North American Country Music Association International Hall of Fame,

2022 Josie Lifetime Career Achievement Award Winner, and Grammys.

In addition to her musical accomplishments, Ms. Dalton has quite a philanthropic side. She co-founded the Let 'em Run Foundation dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing America's wild horses and burros who have no voice. She spends time working with William James Arts in Corrections program at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, California
