Unpacking Trauma: From Adversity to Resilience

In this episode, we delve into the complex world of trauma, exploring its impact on individuals and society as a whole. Is everyone carrying some level of trauma, or is the term being used too loosely? Can challenging experiences shape our character and personality? We navigate through these questions, offering insights into coping mechanisms after facing difficult situations.

The episode starts with a quick and dirty definition of trauma as a deep emotional wound, laying the foundation for a discussion on childhood trauma and its far-reaching consequences. We explore the lasting effects of trauma, from anxiety and depression to substance use and sleep difficulties.

A fascinating aspect we explore is the possibility of trauma being inherited. The concept of intergenerational trauma suggests that negative experiences of past generations can influence the present generation through DNA. We dive into the science of epigenetics and its role in understanding how trauma can leave a mark on our genes.

We shed light on the profound impact of generational trauma on black and brown communities, who have endured centuries of unaddressed trauma. Dr. Joy DeGruy's insights on the Black population in America living with chronic post-traumatic stress disorder due to historical oppression are particularly illuminating.

The episode also highlights the strong correlation between traumatic experiences and struggles with addiction, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing childhood trauma to prevent future challenges.

As we navigate the terrain of healing from trauma, we discuss therapeutic approaches, self-care strategies, and the non-linear nature of the healing process. Practical tips are shared for coping with emotions like anxiety, anger, depression, and shame, encouraging listeners to embrace moments of happiness as positive signs of healing.

“Overcoming Creative Blocks: Strategies to Inspire Your Artistic Flow”

“Overcoming Creative Blocks: Strategies to Inspire Your Artistic Flow”

**Introduction:**

  •   Welcome to Creative Habits Podcast, where we delve into the world of creativity and explore ways to overcome those pesky creative blocks that every artist encounters. I'm your host Phillip Anthony, and beautiful cohost “Indigo“, and today, we're diving deep into the fascinating realm of artistic flow.

  • Picture this: You're staring at a blank canvas, and the inspiration that once flowed freely seems to have taken an unannounced vacation. We've all been there. In today's episode, I want to kick things off by sharing a personal story of when I faced a major creative roadblock and how that experience fueled my passion for understanding the nuances of overcoming these challenges. So, grab your favorite beverage, get cozy, and let's embark on a journey to inspire your artistic flow.

  • *Inspiration Boost:**

    • To infuse some inspiration into your creative journey, let’s sprinkle in uplifting stories and quotes. Remember the words of Vincent van Gogh: “Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” Small steps can lead to significant breakthroughs.

    **Practical Tips for Daily Life:**

    • Let's dive into practical tips you can seamlessly integrate into your daily life to foster creativity. First off, consider maintaining a sketchbook. It serves as a canvas for your spontaneous ideas and doodles, capturing the essence of your creative journey.

    • Set aside dedicated creative time in your day. It doesn't have to be lengthy; even a short burst can be incredibly productive. Consistency is key, making creativity a habit rather than a sporadic event.

    • Craft a supportive environment. Surround yourself with elements that inspire you—whether it's artwork, plants, or soothing music. This creates a space where your creativity can flourish.

    • These small yet impactful habits can make a world of difference, cultivating a fertile ground for your artistic expression. So, embrace these tips and watch as your daily routines become a wellspring of creativity.

    **Closing Thoughts:**

    • As we wrap up, let's summarize the key takeaways from today's exploration of overcoming creative blocks. Remember, perfection is the enemy of progress; imperfections are the soul of creativity. Break down goals into manageable steps, take breaks, and draw inspiration from diverse sources.

    • Practice mindfulness, embrace collaboration, and don't shy away from experimenting with different creative mediums. Your journey is unique, and creative blocks are part of the process—use them as stepping stones, not stumbling blocks.

I invite you to share your thoughts, experiences, and questions on social media. Your feedback is invaluable, and together, we can continue this conversation, inspiring one another to navigate and conquer the challenges of the creative path. Until next time, stay creative, stay inspired!

Burnt Toast Theory

Burnt Toast Theory

Welcome to Creative Habits Podcast, Season 8, where we explore intriguing perspectives on life's mysteries. In this episode, we delve into the enigmatic concept of the Burnt Toast Theory – an idea that flips inconveniences into potential blessings, suggesting that mishaps might actually be saving us from unseen calamities.

The Burnt Toast Theory suggests that life's hiccups might be serendipitous interventions, akin to the belief in Pronoia – the notion that the universe conspires in our favor. Much like practicing gratitude, this theory serves as a mental health tool, fostering optimism and faith in life's benevolence.

We discuss how zooming out from life's small irritations can reveal a grander design, positioning us exactly where we need to be, when we need to be there. It challenges us to embrace setbacks, acknowledging that hidden within them could be protection from unforeseen disasters.

We spotlight a recent event involving an Alaska Airlines flight, a prime example where the Burnt Toast Theory seemed to manifest. Despite initial panic onboard, a detached panel caused no serious harm. Astonishingly, two passengers who missed the flight might view their inconvenience as a fortuitous escape from potential danger.

Through the Burnt Toast Theory, we explore the art of accepting interruptions as unexpected gifts, grounding us and fostering peace amidst life's chaos. Though it's difficult to prove a piece of burnt toast saved a life, this perspective encourages a more positive outlook.

Moreover, we dissect the theory's implications, examining how our experiences, relationships, and chance encounters might be part of a larger cosmic plan. Every missed bus or near-miss accident becomes a chapter in our life's story, shaping our journey and growth.

Join us as we reflect on the Burnt Toast Theory, embracing life's mishaps as essential chapters in our personal narratives, teaching us invaluable lessons along the way. After all, in the grand story of our lives, these experiences serve as guiding lights, guiding us through burnt toast moments, one experience at a time. C'est la vie.

Stanley Meyer and his water-powered car

Stanley Meyer and his water-powered car

**Introduction:**

"Welcome to creative habits podcast, Today, we explore the fascinating tale of Stanley Meyer and his invention of a water-powered car. Join us as we uncover the mysteries and controversies surrounding this revolutionary concept."

**Who was Stanley Meyer?**

  • Stanley Meyer was an American inventor and entrepreneur known for his claims of having developed a technology capable of running a car on water as a fuel source. Born in 1940, Meyer grew up with an interest in electronics and mechanics. He held various patents related to electronic control systems and, most notably, his invention of a purported water fuel cell.

  • Meyer claimed that his water fuel cell could split water into its components, hydrogen and oxygen, using a process that consumed minimal energy and produced a combustible gas (HHO or oxyhydrogen). According to him, this gas could be used as a fuel source for internal combustion engines, replacing traditional gasoline.

  • He gained attention in the 1990s after public demonstrations of a dune buggy purportedly running on water. Meyer's claims about the water-powered car and the technology behind it sparked significant interest and controversy. Despite the attention, Meyer faced skepticism from the scientific community and was unable to provide scientific evidence or allow independent verification of his invention's viability.

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude." A quote by maya Angelou reminds us of accepting change within ourselves for the benefit of ourselves.

That quote really speaks to the power we hold within ourselves to shape our realities. It reminds us that we have the ability to change our perspective, even when external circumstances may seem beyond our control.

In essence, this quote urges us to shift our focus from what we cannot control to what we can control—our attitude and perspective. Moving on, let's ponder upon a quote from the renowned physicist Albert Einstein: "The measure of intelligence is the ability to change."

Reincarnation Chronicles: intriguing Encounters with Past Lives

Reincarnation Chronicles: intriguing Encounters with Past Lives

Studies

University of Virginia, Jim Tucker.

“Some young children, usually between the ages of 2 and 5, speak about memories of a previous life they claim to have lived. At the same time they often show behaviors, such as phobias or preferences, that are unusual within the context of their particular family and cannot be explained by any current life events. These memories appear to be concordant with the child’s statements about a previous life.”

In many cases of this type, the child’s statements have been shown to correspond accurately to facts in the life and death of a deceased person. Some of the children have birthmarks and birth defects that correspond to wounds or other marks on the deceased person whose life is being remembered by the child.  In numerous cases, postmortem reports have confirmed these correspondences.

Older children may retain these apparent memories, but generally they seem to fade around the age of seven.  The young subjects of these cases have been found all over the world including Europe and North America.

For the past 20 years, Dr. Jim Tucker, now the director of the Division of Perceptual Studies, has focused mainly on cases found in the United States. His book Return to Life offers accounts of very strong American cases of young children who remember previous lives. In this book, Dr. Tucker writes about the now well-known cases of James Leininger, a young boy who had verifiable past-life memories of being a WWII pilot, and Ryan Hammons, who had verifiable memories of being a Hollywood extra and talent agent.

Types of Statements a Child Might Make

  • “You’re not my mommy/daddy.”
  • “I have another mommy/daddy.”
  • “When I was big, I …(used to have blue eyes/had a car, etc.).”
  • “That happened before I was in mommy’s tummy.”
  • “I have a wife/husband/children.”
  • “I used to…(drive a truck/live in another town, etc.)”
  • “I died … (in a car accident/after I fell, etc.)”
  • “Remember when I …(lived in that other house/was your daddy, etc.)

Quick discussion : between Phil and Handi

Main topic

Topic :Reddit user u/TapiocaTuesday asked the AskReddit community: "Parents, what spooky 'past life' memory did your kid utter?"

eplies :

1. "Back pre-pandemic, I was watching my friend's then–3-year-old for her and he saw a big military ship and he got this kind of faraway look, and said, 'I remember when my boat sank. There were so many sharks.'"

"I said, 'What?' He blinked and, said, 'What?' and then started asking questions about the boat. I mentioned it to my friend and she said, 'Yeah, he does that sometimes.'"

Planksgonemad

2. "When I was very young and still unable to string sentences together, my mom and I were sitting at the dining room table. She was crying and I comforted my mother by telling her without any babbling or hesitation: 'It’s okay, I used to be your great grandmother, I’ll take care of you.'"

"I have no memory of this and my mom said I went back to my baby-like talk immediately after. She stopped crying, probably because it scared the shit out of her."

AceTrainerEmily

3. "I used to watch my nephew when he was about 3 or 4. One day, he was at my house and pointed to a magnet of Arizona — it had a picture of the desert with rock formations. Kid pointed at it and asked where it was. He said he used to live by 'red rocks like that' with his first family."

"(The first family) all had straight, dark hair (his is blond and curly) and that he had a mom, a dad, and a brother, that is until he went too far into the desert, too close to dark, and got eaten by 'not dogs, not wolves, but smaller.' I said, 'Coyotes?' And he kind of mouthed the word and said, 'Oh, that's what you call them.' Then he was sad and didn't want to talk about it anymore, so we had lunch and that was the first and last time he mentioned it."

Creepy Pasta Halloween

Creepy Pasta Halloween

Creepy Halloween stories

[INTRO MUSIC]

Phil: Welcome back to another episode of the "Creative Habits Podcast." I'm your host Phil , and today we have a chilling story that delves into the darker corners of the human mind.

Russian Sleep Experiment

[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Phil: In 1947, at a top-secret Soviet test facility, an experiment unfolded that would send shivers down your spine. The experiment involved five prisoners, considered enemies of the state, who were subjected to a bizarre and horrifying scientific test. They were placed in a sealed gas chamber and given a gas-based stimulant to keep them awake for 30 days. The catch? They were promised freedom if they completed the experiment.

[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]

Phil: Initially, the subjects behaved normally, talking and even conversing with the researchers through one-way glass. But as the days passed, something sinister began to emerge.

[DARK MUSIC]

Phil: On the ninth day, one subject started screaming uncontrollably for hours, eventually tearing his vocal cords. When the second subject joined in, the remaining prisoners covered the windows with book pages and their own feces. Silence fell over the chamber.

[INTENSE MUSIC]

Host: On the 15th day, the researchers turned off the gas and reopened the chamber. What they found was beyond comprehension. The surviving subjects had mutilated and cannibalized themselves and each other. They refused to leave the chamber and displayed superhuman strength and resistance to sedatives.

[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]

Host: Eventually, military officials ordered the surviving subjects back into the chamber, despite the researchers' objections. But chaos ensued. One subject fell asleep and died, while another killed the commander. The last surviving subject spoke of an inherent evil inside the human mind.

[HAUNTING MUSIC]

Host: The researcher, in a desperate act, shot the subject, who, with his dying breath, muttered, "So... nearly... free..."

[OUTRO MUSIC]

The Russian Sleep Experiment is a creepypasta which tells the tale of 5 test subjects being exposed to an experimental sleep-inhibiting stimulant in a Soviet-era scientific experiment, which has become the basis of an urban legend.[1] Many news organizations, including Snopes, News.com.au, and LiveAbout, trace the story's origins to a website,[2] now known as the Creepypasta Wiki, being posted on August 10, 2010, by a user named OrangeSoda, whose real name is unknown.

We continue our exploration into the baffling and mysterious story of “This Man.” If you thought the tale was strange before, it’s about to get even more intriguing.

What are you afraid of?

What are you afraid of?

1. Take time out

It’s impossible to think clearly when you’re flooded with fear or anxiety. The first thing to do is take time out so you can physically calm down.

Distract yourself from the worry for 15 minutes by walking around the block, making a cup of tea or having a bath.

2. Breathe through panic

If you start to get a faster heartbeat or sweating palms, the best thing is not to fight it.

Stay where you are and simply feel the panic without trying to distract yourself. Place the palm of your hand on your stomach and breathe slowly and deeply.

The goal is to help the mind get used to coping with panic, which takes the fear of fear away.

Try this breathing technique for stress

3. Face your fears

Avoiding fears only makes them scarier. Whatever your fear, if you face it, it should start to fade. If you panic one day getting into a lift, for example, it’s best to get back into a lift the next day.

4. Imagine the worst

Try imagining the worst thing that can happen – perhaps it’s panicking and having a heart attack. Then try to think yourself into having a heart attack. It’s just not possible. The fear will run away the more you chase it.

5. Look at the evidence

It sometimes helps to challenge fearful thoughts. For example, if you’re scared of getting trapped in a lift and suffocating, ask yourself if you have ever heard of this happening to someone. Ask yourself what you would say to a friend who had a similar fear.

6. Don’t try to be perfect

Life is full of stresses, yet many of us feel that our lives must be perfect. Bad days and setbacks will always happen, and it’s important to remember that life is messy.

7. Visualise a happy place

Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine a place of safety and calm. It could be a picture of you walking on a beautiful beach, or snuggled up in bed with the cat next to you, or a happy memory from childhood. Let the positive feelings soothe you until you feel more relaxed.

8. Talk about it

Sharing fears takes away a lot of their scariness. If you can’t talk to a partner, friend or family member, call a helpline such as Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87 or Samaritans on 116 123.

You could also try a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach over the telephone, with a service such as NHS Living Life. If you would like to find out more about this appointment-based service, you can visit the Living Life website or phone 0800 328 9655 (Mon to Fri, 1pm to 9pm).

If your fears aren’t going away, you can ask your GP for help. GPs can refer people for counselling, psychotherapy or help through an online mental health service, such as Living Life to the Full.

9. Go back to basics

Lots of people turn to alcohol or drugs to self-treat anxiety, but this will only make matters worse. Simple, everyday things like a good night’s sleep, a wholesome meal and a walk are often the best cures for anxiety.

10. Reward yourself

Finally, give yourself a treat. When you’ve made that call you’ve been dreading, for example, reinforce your success by treating yourself to a massage, a country walk, a meal out, a book, a DVD, or whatever little gift makes you happy.

Time Slips Part 2 - Santiago Flight 513

[Podcast Intro Music]

Phil: Welcome back, creative minds, to another episode of Creative Habits. I'm Phil.

Indigo: And I'm Indigo, and we're your hosts. Today, we're diving into the enigmatic world of urban legends, and we've got a story that's sure to spark your imagination. This is "Time Slips Part 2."

Phil: That's right, Indigo. Few stories capture the human imagination quite like those that cross the borders of reality and venture into the realm of the strange and unexplainable. One such story is that of Santiago Flight 513, a tale so compelling that it has seeped into popular culture, despite being firmly entrenched as an urban myth.

Indigo: The Santiago Flight 513 incident is a tale that blurs the lines between fact and fiction, involving a Lockheed Super Constellation, a legendary aircraft known for its dependability and extensive range. This flight had successfully completed numerous journeys prior to its mysterious takeoff.

Phil: The story begins with the legendary takeoff of Santiago Flight 513 from Aachen, Germany, on September 4, 1954, with 88 passengers and four crew members aboard. The aircraft was destined for Port Alegre, Brazil. But after takeoff, it seemingly vanished into thin air, causing profound grief and confusion.

Indigo: Legend has it that search and rescue efforts were launched, but no wreckage or sign of the plane was ever found. Families were left in the dark, and the aviation industry was baffled.

Phil: Fast forward 35 years to October 12, 1989, and the story takes an extraordinary twist. Santiago Flight 513 allegedly reappeared, landing perfectly at Port Alegre's airport. This sent shockwaves through air traffic controllers, authorities, and the media.

Indigo: But here's where it gets eerie. Inside the plane, the skeletal remains of 92 people were found, still in their seats and seemingly undisturbed, with the pilot still clutching the controls.

Phil: This tale has all the hallmarks of an urban legend, a modern folklore genre that includes unverified stories being circulated as truth. Urban legends often blend reality with elements of horror, mystery, and, sometimes, a hidden moral lesson.

Indigo: To test the veracity of the Santiago Flight 513 story, let's look at the facts. There are several red flags that strongly suggest it's fictitious. First, there's no historical record of an airline named Santiago Airlines, and Aachen is not known for its major international airport.

Phil: There are no official aviation records or reports of Santiago Flight 513's supposed disappearance in 1954 or reappearance in 1989. Plus, no credible news outlets reported on it, a significant omission for such a major incident.

Indigo: Not to mention, the story violates the known laws of physics and biology. It's impossible for a plane to stay in the air for 35 years without refueling, and human bodies don't turn into skeletal remains within the controlled environment of an airplane.

[Continuation]

Indigo: So, let's dive deeper into what makes urban legends like Santiago Flight 513 so captivating. They often tap into our primal fears and desires, invoking emotions that stick with us long after we've heard the story.

Phil: That's right, Indigo. Stories like these play on our fascination with the unexplained. They create a sense of wonder and mystery in a world that's become increasingly explainable due to scientific advances. Santiago Flight 513 becomes a modern-day campfire tale, passed down through generations.

Indigo: The longevity of this legend, despite its lack of evidence, shows the power of storytelling. We love a good mystery, and urban legends like this one satisfy that curiosity. They keep us asking questions, even when the answers might never come.

The Successful Artist

The Successful Artist

Being a successful artist can mean different things to different people, as success in the art world is highly subjective and multifaceted. Here are some common aspects that contribute to being a successful artist:

1. **Recognition and Fame:** Some artists measure success by achieving widespread recognition and fame for their work. This can include having their art displayed in prestigious galleries, museums, or featured in major publications.

2. **Financial Stability:** Financial success is another common measure of an artist's success. This means earning a comfortable living through the sale of their art, commissions, or related services like teaching or workshops.

3. **Artistic Fulfillment:** Many artists view success as the ability to create art that fulfills them personally and allows them to express their ideas, emotions, or messages authentically.

4. **Impact and Influence:** Some artists strive to make a lasting impact on the art world and society. Success, in this case, is measured by the ability to influence other artists, provoke thought, or bring about social change through their work.

5. **Critical Acclaim:** Success can also be tied to critical acclaim, where an artist's work is praised by art critics, scholars, and peers. Positive reviews and awards can validate an artist's talent and dedication.

6. **Versatility and Evolution:** Success may mean the ability to evolve and adapt as an artist, continually pushing boundaries, and exploring new styles, techniques, or mediums.

7. **Personal Growth:** For some artists, success is synonymous with personal growth and development. They measure their success by how much they've improved their skills, expanded their creative horizons, or overcome artistic challenges.

8. **Legacy and Longevity:** Leaving a lasting legacy in the art world and being remembered for generations to come is a measure of success for some artists. This often involves creating timeless and influential works.

9. **Connection with the Audience:** Success can be defined by the artist's ability to connect emotionally or intellectually with their audience, making a lasting impression on viewers and fostering a sense of appreciation or understanding.

It's important to note that success as an artist is highly individualistic, and artists may prioritize different aspects of success at various points in their careers. What's crucial is defining your own personal vision of success and setting goals accordingly. Success can also be an ongoing journey, with artists continually striving to achieve new levels of accomplishment and satisfaction in their creative endeavors.

Project Blue Beam

Project Blue Beam

Project blue beam

In just the past year , the United States has shot four unidentified flying objects in North American airspace.

The government is hesitant to give specific answers and appears to be offering only limited information about the objects to the public, what’s going on?

This has brought on speculation on the internet that the project beam theory may have some truth to it after all.

Project Blue Beam is a conspiracy theory that alleges that a secret government program is developing advanced technology to fake an alien invasion in order to establish a New World Order. The theory was first proposed by Serge Monast, a French-Canadian researcher, in the early 1990s.

It explains how events that were happening at the time, particularly films being made (Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc) were being used to prepare people psychologically for the conspiracy's dramatic conclusion. A fake alien invasion.

Blue beam would  originally play on fears of alleged advanced technology that most people at the time, including its author, did not understand. Although now, 30 years later in 2023, we can fully comprehend.

Monast claimed that Project Blue Beam would involve using holograms, lasers, and other technologies to create the illusion of spaceships and other alien phenomena in the sky. He also alleged that the government would use mass media to spread disinformation about the alien invasion and to promote the idea that a New World Order is necessary to save humanity.

Podcast Title: "Time slip Chronicles Part 1”: Time Slips in Bold Street, Liverpool"

Phil: Welcome back to another exciting edition of Creative Habits Podcast. Today's episode is the first of a three-part series called "Time Slip Chronicles," which I find highly interesting. Your host is me, Mr. Phillip Anthony

Handi: And my name is Indigo. The subject of today is a genuinely perplexing phenomenon: time slips.

Phil: Time slips, sometimes known as spontaneous time travel, are a fascinating aspect of the supernatural. There's no single explanation for why or how they occur, which adds to the mystery.

Handi: That's true. And what makes this episode even more remarkable is that we're going to Bold Street in Liverpool, where these strange time slips happen more frequently than anywhere else in Britain.

Phil : Time slips, also known as "spontaneous time travel" or "time anomalies," are a perplexing and inexplicable phenomenon that has frequently been observed in paranormal and supernatural settings. Individuals or groups have reported supposedly travelling or being transferred through time, landing in a different era or time period. Here are some of the most important traits and components of time slips:

  • Unpredictable Events: Time slips are usually spontaneous and unpredictable. People who experience them do not typically seek them out or have any control over when or where they occur.

  • Altered Perception of Time: Individuals who encounter time slips often describe a distortion in their perception of time. They may feel as if only minutes have passed, even though they have apparently traveled through years or decades.

  • Physical Environment Changes: During a time slip, individuals often report significant changes in their physical environment. Buildings, landscapes, vehicles, clothing, and even people may appear different, as if they have been transported to a past or future era.

  • Anachronistic Details: Witnesses often note anachronistic details, such as outdated technology, clothing styles, or architecture. These details are consistent with the time period they seem to have entered.

  • Bizarre Interactions: People who experience time slips sometimes interact with individuals from the era they have seemingly entered. These interactions can be confusing and surreal for both parties.

  • Inconsistencies: Time slip experiences often lack concrete evidence, such as photographs or physical objects from the past or future. Witnesses may be the sole source of these accounts.

  • Emotional Impact: Time slip experiences can be emotionally intense and bewildering for those who undergo them. Witnessing events outside the usual boundaries of time can be disorienting and challenging to comprehend.

  • Skepticism and Controversy: Time slips are met with skepticism from many scientists and researchers who believe they may be the result of psychological factors, hallucinations, or misinterpretations of reality. As a result, they remain a controversial topic in paranormal studies.

  • Frequent Locations: Some locations around the world, like Bold Street in Liverpool (as mentioned in the previous podcast episode), are known for having a higher frequency of reported time slip experiences.

  • Literary and Pop Culture Influence: Time slips have been featured in literature, movies, and television shows, contributing to their popularity as a subject of fascination and intrigue.

Cryptic folklore (The Goat Man of Maryland)

Cryptic folklore (The Goat Man of Maryland)

Welcome to the creative habits podcast. I'm your host Phil, and today we'll be delving into the mysterious legend of the Goat Man of Prince George's County, Maryland.

Our journey begins in May of 1971 when George Lizama, a University of Maryland student, conducted an undergraduate folklore project on the Goat Man. This project later found its place in the Maryland Folklife Archives. According to Lizama's paper, the Goat Man was said to be located on Tucker Road in Clinton, Maryland.

But the story doesn't end there. Later that same year, in October 1971, reporter Karen Hosler stumbled upon Lizama's project in the Maryland Folklife Archives and decided to report on it in the Prince George's County News. However, this time, the Goat Man's location was placed near Fletchertown Road in Bowie, Maryland. A curious twist in the tale indeed!

The intrigue deepens as Hosler's report delved into a fascinating theory about the Goat Man's origins. It was suggested that the creature's roots could be traced back to the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.

As we explore this cryptic topic, we'll uncover the various versions of the Goat Man legend and the accounts of those who claim to have encountered this enigmatic creature. Is the Goat Man merely a figment of folklore and urban legends, or is there something more to this elusive being?

As we continue our investigation into the enigmatic Goat Man of Prince George's County, Maryland, we uncover more intriguing aspects of this captivating legend. While the origin of Goatman stories can be traced back to the early 1970s, some of its most haunting legends are set in the 1950s. During this period, reports of mysterious dog disappearances and deaths emerged within the county, which locals attributed to the elusive creature known as the Goat Man.

However, a closer examination of the remains revealed a different story. The deaths of the unfortunate dogs were more likely the result of passing trains, dispelling some of the more chilling claims surrounding the Goat Man's involvement. Despite this, the allure of the legend persisted, fueled by the human fascination with the unknown and the inexplicable.

The Goat Man became a fixture of local folklore, capturing the imaginations of young and old alike. Among the many eerie details that fed into the myth, graffiti with the haunting message, "Goatman was here," began to appear throughout the county, leaving an unsettling mark on the landscape and minds of those who encountered it.

Even law enforcement found themselves drawn into the intrigue, receiving frequent calls reporting Goat Man sightings. While some of these reports may have been genuine, a significant number turned out to be pranks. Nevertheless, the persistent belief in the Goat Man's existence revealed a community deeply invested in preserving and perpetuating its cryptic lore.

As time passed, the Goat Man legend continued to evolve, intertwining with the fabric of Prince George's County's cultural identity. The stories expanded, drawing upon a rich tapestry of local history and blending fact with fiction, leaving behind a legacy that endures to this day.

In our next episode, we will delve further into the sightings and encounters with the Goat Man, exploring the chilling accounts and attempts to unravel the mystery behind this elusive figure. Join us as we journey deeper into the heart of darkness and attempt to shed light on the enigma of the Goat Man of Prince George's County, Maryland.

Cortney Herron: Los Angeles Figurative Painter

Cortney Herron: Los Angeles Figurative Painter

Cortney Herron is a contemporary figurative painter, whose work is characterized by bold yet calming color palettes that bring a sense of tranquility and peace to the viewer. Her use of organic forms and shapes creates a sense of connectedness we as a people have to the natural world.
Born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, California, Cortney developed a deep appreciation for nature from a young age. She spent much of her childhood exploring the outdoors and observing the subtle nuances of the environment around her, learning about the beauty and importance of staying present in the moment. This connection and deep appreciation for nature would later become a driving force behind her artistic vision.
She also believes that color has the power to evoke emotions and create a sense of atmosphere, and she carefully creates her palette to convey a particular mood or feeling. Her paintings are often suffused with warm, earthy tones that create a sense of harmony and tranquility.
One of Cortney’s favorite subjects is the human form, which she portrays in a way that emphasizes the unique moments in time where we can be lost in a daydream or deep in thought. Mimicking the rawness and authenticity of life at any given moment, her work is honest yet playful - where perspective and proportion have no rules and you’re simply able to see even the tiniest glimpse of your innermost self within the piece. So her work emulates a sense of authenticity and connectedness to not only the world around us, but our internal selves.
As a full-time artist, primarily working in the acrylic, oil, and digital mediums, Cortney also lends her creativity to various brands through special collaborations, commissions, and partnerships, including Bombay Sapphire, Dagne Dover, Society6, and Refinery29. She has also been featured on podcasts and numerous publications including The Argonaut and VoyageLA.

Foreign accent syndrome

Foreign accent syndrome

Handi: Hey, creative habiters! Welcome back to another episode of our podcast. I'm your host, Handi.

Phil: And I'm Phil. And we're super excited to have you guys here with us today.

Handi: Imagine you wake up and how you pronounce words suddenly sounds completely different, almost foreign, from the last time you spoke. For example, your American English accent sounds African. This might seem bizarre, but it’s a rare motor speech disorder aptly called foreign accent syndrome, Today's episode is going to be all about Foreign accent Syndrome – something that many people might not be familiar with.

Phil: Yeah, it's a really interesting topic, and it can be helpful for those who are trying to learn a new language.

Handi: For those of you who don't know, Foreign accent Syndrome is a rare condition that occurs after a person suffers a brain injury or illness, and can cause them to speak in a foreign accent or language.

Phil: It's actually quite surprising – these people can suddenly start talking as if they're speaking an entirely different language, even though they've never actually studied or spoken it before.

Handi: Right, and while it's rare, it's a really fascinating phenomenon that has been studied and documented in scientific literature and research.

Phil: In fact, there have been several cases of people who have developed Foreign accent  Syndrome, and some of the most notable ones made headlines all over the world.

Handi: Yes, like the case of an American woman who suffered a head injury and woke up with an Irish accent. Or the man who had a stroke and began speaking fluent Mandarin – even though he had only learned the basic phrases.

Phil: So, what causes this syndrome? Studies have shown that when parts of the brain that are involved in language are damaged, it can cause the brain to reorganize itself and adapt to new forms of communication.

Handi: It's also been suggested that this is due to the brain's sensory regions being rewired after an injury or illness – leading to a completely different way of processing language.

Phil: While rare, Foreign accent  Syndrome is a real condition, and it's important to understand that it's not something that can be controlled. But it does raise some interesting questions about how the brain processes language, and how this might open up new avenues for language learning in the future.

Handi: Absolutely. In fact, there's been some recent research that suggests that even without a brain injury, people can still develop traits of Foreign accent  Syndrome when learning a new language.

Phil: In a study done by scientists from the University of Chicago, it was shown that people who are fluent in two languages sometimes exhibit distinct cognitive and behavioral characteristics depending on which language they're speaking.

Handi: That's really interesting. It suggests that when you learn a new language, you're not just learning a new way to communicate, but you're also potentially rewiring your brain to process information in a new way.

Phil: Which is another reason why learning a new language is such a valuable skill – it can help you think in new ways, and see the world from a different perspective.

Handi: Yes, and it's something that everyone should try at least once in their life.

Phil: Absolutely. Well, we hope you guys found this episode informative and fascinating. If you want to learn more about Foreign Language Syndrome, we've included some links to articles and research in the show notes.

Handi: And as always, please feel free to reach out to us on social media with any questions or comments. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next time!

Fake is the new real (Carlee Russell)

Fake is the new real (Carlee Russell)

On July 13, 2023, Carlee Russell contacted 911 emergency number to report a toddler walking along Interstate 459 in Hoover, Alabama.

When police arrived at the scene, no one was there. Her car was still running with her phone and wig left behind.

A massive search was launched for Russell, involving local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

On July 15, Russell returned home on foot. She had an injury to her lip, a tear in her shirt, and $107 in cash in her sock. Carlee told detectives she was abducted by a man with orange hair who held her captive. Investigators now say there is no proof of a toddler, or the abduction.

Russell claimed that she had been kidnapped by a man and held against her will before escaping her alleged abductor.
However, police soon began to have doubts about Russell's story so did others when the story just wasn’t making any sense.

New York Post article also, provided opinions from a salon patron, Andrea Townsend , about their thoughts on the story. it’s unthinkable that a black woman would ever leave her wig behind in her car. Quoting:
“When it happened we were in shock. But once we saw the wig, just to know that wig was left behind— we don’t do that. We don’t do that. People were talking about it,” she said. “My husband and I were talking about it. He’s a police officer. He immediately thought something doesn’t sound right,” she added also from New York post article Martha Harton, a nurse from Fayette, told The Post that all black women immediately knew Russell was lying — and it’s because of the wig.

Martha Harton, a nurse from Fayette, told The Post that all black women immediately knew Russell was lying — and it’s because of the wig. it’s unthinkable that a black woman would ever leave her wig behind in her car. Martha the nurse went on to say,

“A black woman’s hair is her glory. There are three things a black woman has that you don’t mess with: Her kids, her money, and her hair. That’s what gave her away.”

Police say forensic analysis of Ms Carlees cell phone, work and home computers found she looked up information about the movie Taken, Amber Alerts, booking a bus ticket from Birmingham to Nashville and “how to take money from a register without being caught”

Russell also made a number of false statements to police, including that she had been forced to walk for hours and that eat cheese crackers and her abductor had threatened to kill her. Earlier on the night, of the kidnapping she allegedly smuggled out a bathrobe, toilet paper, and “other items” that belonged to her workplace. Cops say she also made a stop at Target an hour before disappearing, loading up on granola bars and Cheez-Its—snacks that weren’t found in her abandoned car.

On Monday July 24, 2023, Russell confessed to lying about being kidnapped. She admitted that she had made up the story because she was facing financial problems and was afraid of getting in trouble with her parents.

Ayana Ross - Figurative Artist

Ayana Ross - Figurative Artist

Ayana Ross (b. 1977) is a figurative artist whose work combines traditional oil painting methods using figurative realism, with the elaborate treatment of patterns and decorative design to elevate her subjects and provide deeper context into the work.

Through her vivid paintings, Ross captures everyday people and moments, layering narratives that address social issues, make use of historical references, and are also autobiographical in nature. Ross examines themes such as those exploring race, identity, economics, and a general assessment of our value systems, by drawing parallels between the past and the present and the macro and micro levels of analysis.

Often spurred on by her family history deeply rooted in the South, and her experiences as a mother and teacher, Ross believes passionately that her work is designed to be intergenerational, both in context, addressing themes that cross generations, and through the literal preservation of the physical piece. Her aim is to create meaningful art that helps us to see ourselves, educates and informs, while preserving history and celebrating culture."

Does Music feel the same?

Does Music feel the same?

Music has many purposes, including:

  • To express emotions. Music can be a powerful way to express a wide range of emotions, from joy and love to sadness and anger.
  • To tell stories. Music can be used to tell stories, both fictional and real. This can be a way to pass on history, culture, and values.
  • To connect people. Music can be a powerful way to bring people together, regardless of their background or beliefs.
  • To inspire. Music can inspire people to change the world, to be better people, or to simply live their lives to the fullest.

Music has changed significantly from the era of the civil rights movement to the 1990s. Some of the reasons for this change include:

  • The rise of new genres. In the 1960s, the most popular genres of music were folk, blues, and gospel. By the 1990s, new genres such as hip hop, rap, and electronic dance music had become popular. These genres often had different styles and messages than the older genres.
  • The changing social and political landscape. The civil rights movement was a time of great social and political upheaval. This inspired many musicians to write songs about social justice and equality. By the 1990s, the social and political landscape had changed. This led to a shift in the focus of many musicians, who began to write more about personal experiences and relationships.
  • The influence of technology. The development of new technologies, such as the personal computer and the sampler, had a major impact on music. These technologies made it easier for musicians to create and record music, and they also led to the development of new genres of music.

I can be urban art, digital art, traditional, modern, commercial art, abstract, classical, etc. My forte is digital painting, graphic art, traditional oil and acrylic painting.

I am constantly exploring new ways of capturing single creativity and art form. In the words of Vincent Van Gogh, “I am still far from being what I want to be. But with God’s help I shall succeed.” I dare to have faith and confidence, thanks to my Creator.

Artists have continuously employed their creative expressions to address social, political, and environmental issues, advocating for change and promoting awareness. We've seen how artists engage with various topics, such as racial injustice, gender inequality, LGBTQ+ rights, poverty, climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainability.

From historical moments to contemporary movements, artists have challenged authority, questioned norms, and inspired dialogue. They have utilized different mediums, techniques, and collaborations to shed light on critical issues. Whether through paintings, sculptures, installations, street art, or performance art, artists have initiated conversations, raised awareness, and influenced public opinion.

The significance of art as a catalyst for change cannot be overstated. Art has the unique ability to touch people's emotions, transcend language barriers, and create connections. It invites us to see the world through different perspectives, to question the status quo, and to envision a more just and sustainable future.

Today's episode is going to be quite interesting as we delve into a hotly debated topic , recently featured for the third time on NPR which sparked our curiosity to share our own thoughts and opinions on this.

Indigo - billionaires have access to space and it is currently having us question the ethics of space exploration. This is definitely a topic that has been making headlines recently, and we thought it would be great to bring both sides of the argument to the table.

Taka Nah Jelah - Digital artist

"An aspiration of mine has always been to use my art to inspire, educate and advocate. As a self-taught digital artist, I have tried different styles and engaged in different projects I am passionate about.

I also enjoy story telling. Growing up in Cameroon and transitioning to the U.S. for undergrad has given me a lot of stories to tell. "

Janeva Tyree

Janeva Tyree

Janeva Tyree is a modern artist residing in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since receiving her BFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2011, Janeva has developed storyboards, designed graphic logos, curated set designs, published children's illustrations, painted murals, and taught workshops.

Current highlights of her career include developing murals featured in Charleston, Columbia and Florence, South Carolina, developing story storyboards that were used as visual education tools in Harvard University, as well as directing a team of dynamic artists to create and curate art related to social injustice.

Janeva loves to create, with a breadth of work ranging from technological driven art to art that is used to change the way that we think and perceive environments. Her mission is to create timeless artwork that documents history, breaks conventional chains, and starts conversations which leads to action.

Muralist, painter, sculptor, designer - I believe that "art's" limit ends at the imagination, and begins with curiosity. Born in Washington, D.C. with a paintbrush in my hand, my mission is to light up and activate spaces through art. I currently reside in Charlotte, N.C. however, the world is my playground when it comes to creation, as a locally sourced and world-traveled artist.

With vibration, imagination, passion, and dynamism, I create.

I communicate visually, merging realistic elements with imagination: displaying what words cannot say and showcasing sounds that your heart can hear. I transcend into the subconscious to express culturally relevant themes, in order to increase visibility and provoke conversation.

My goal is to create art that evokes love, life, and unity. Art is powerful; and I share this power to (1) embody the holisticness of our world, (2) remind us that everything is connected, so we should treat ourselves, people, and this earth well, and (3) to use our uniqueness, gifts, and imagination to make this universe a more incredible place.
