S1E14: Interview with writer, actor and filmmaker Dario Shields

S1E14: Interview with writer, actor and filmmaker Dario Shields

Dario Shields is a young filmmaker from Montego Bay Jamaica.  This man has achieved so much and encountered many tribulations on his journey. He holds and associate degree in business studies and marketing and an Associate Degree in chartered accounting.  His goal is to some day win an Oscar from Montego Bay Community College.

He has made over 10 short films, wrote a book, achieved many awards as an actor, filmmaker and youth advocate and is getting reading to make his first movie.

Humbled by harsh life experiences himself, the talent that God has given him, Dario is a Youth Advocate who is very active in not only his church, but his community, former college, but Jamaica on a whole. His goal is to inspire the world, and sharing the simple but powerful message that as a youth, child or even an older folk, despite what it is you go through, you simply need to believe in yourself, even if others doubt you and sometimes when you think you’re a failure and no one believes in you, just blink you will see just how lucky you are. He has titled his first novel as “Ghetto Born, God Raised’, a tremendous story similar to his own. Growing up in the ghetto himself and seeing many persons giving up on themselves simply because they don’t have the funds, support or the resources they need, Dario has decided to use his God given talent to inspire others with the message that, ‘you only need one thing and that’s God.’ Currently Dario has his eyes set on venturing into the world of Filming as another avenue to inspire the world. Today, he preaches a simple message that, ‘it’s not your setbacks, it’s how you comeback.’

In this podcast you hear me talk about the effects it initially had and how I attempt to manage it. P.S. It a'int easy.

S1E9: Leachim Semaj Claims Creatives are some of the worst business people

S1E9: Leachim Semaj Claims Creatives are some of the worst business people

In an article on Loop Jamaica dated March 23, 2019 titled  Creatives should build partnerships for success - Dr Leachim Semaj, the respected Dr. Makes claims such as  "The failure rate for small business is phenomenal. Artistic people are some of the worst business people because their brains are not wired that way. When artistic people say 2+2, they get 50, so that's them now trying to be a business person. It is like a fish trying to climb a try."

While he makes great points in the article the above statement high offended many creatives for how extreme it was. I wanted to give me opinion on it.

Self doubt, we all face it from time to time. Am I good enough? Can I finish on time? I'm not cut out for this? Maybe this is not my thing? People tell me I am awesome but I don't feel like it. If you have ever said any of these or anything close then you know what I am talking about. Well, let's talk about it here on the NivekPro Creative Motivation. S2E6: My Opinion pursuing your passion.

This is a dual podcast. Marlon "Rome" Walker invited myself and the lovely Trician McTavit on his podcast "My Opinion". We answered a viewers question on pursuing your dreams. We touch a little bit on Buju on his release. LAST but not least we touch a bit on the struggles of an actor in Jamaica and being type cast based on looks. A topic I plan to explore further with Marlon in the future.

S1E3: How to get noticed as a new animator/creative

S1E3: How to get noticed as a new animator/creative

When you are a young creative, very often we are discouraged from living and enjoying our passion. This is especially true in a third world country where the society and economy revere doctors, lawyers, engineers and bankers. Not realizing that creativity is responsible for the clothes they spend thousands on, the cars they pay tens of thousands for or even the house they pay hundreds of thousands and millions for. With that said, it is hard to get noticed when just starting out. I will tell you what worked for me. Hopefully it can help you or someone else further their journey toward their goals.
