Success Story: Chatting with homeowners Nick and Brooke
Ever feel like success is for other people? That it can't happen to you or for you? I want to introduce you to an awesome couple, Nick and Brooke. They believed that too. But thankfully, they listened to some people in their lives, got into action, and are living a very different life this year than years past. They didn't come from money, no hand outs, no special programs. They sought advice, got into action, created a budget and decided to stop living in a state of scarcity! You too are worthy of abundance! It starts with changing our mindset, getting into action to remedy our wrong doings, and in that responsibility, comes reward. Listen to their story, and perhaps yours can be just as successful. I believe it can! questions@creditkristi.com YouTube Channels: Credit Kristi and Your Loan Superhero

What is Credit Card Stacking?
If someone or a company suggests you use a strategy called credit card stacking to leverage available credit to buy something large- think twice! Better yet, think twice more- it is usually NOT a good idea and I have experienced the "offer" of this before and so grateful I didn't do it. But I know of people who have and get absolutely buried in debt and feel like they are stuck because most of their payment is now going to interest and not paying down that balance. It could be a trap and will catch you and pull you down. Be careful if using this method of borrowing to purchase is something you are considering.

Statute of Limitations (of debt) vs. Length of Time Bad Credit is on your report
I have been asked recently about a collection account that was listed on a credit report, and there was a lot of mis-understanding about how long something reports on your credit report vs. when a creditor can sue you, create a judgement or ask the courts to make you pay an obligatory debt. So I wanted to explain what a Statute of Limitation is and also how long derogatory events stay on your credit report. Here is a link of all the States' length of limitations: https://lendedu.com/blog/statute-of-limitations-on-debt-collection-by-state/ and the CFPB's definition of Statute of Limitation: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/what-is-a-statute-of-limitations-on-a-debt-en-1389/ questions@creditkristi.com

What does Dave Ramsey say about credit?
If you follow Dave Ramsey, chances are you LOVE Dave Ramsey. I know I am a fan. However, you may have heard him speak of credit in a way that may not settle so well with your intuition. Your gut says, "sure Dave, if you have lots of money in the bank to pay cash for things, you don't NEED credit, but for the rest of us, when you need to borrow, you need the proper credit profile." At least that is what mine was saying when I heard him say having credit (debt) is bad, bad, bad. And for some people, that may be very true. Some people may constantly live outside of their means by overspending, overcharging, and splurging. Some people may shop for therapy or fill every single little gratification.  But for the rest of us, likely the majority, having a credit profile by borrowing money for a car, house and education may not bury us. And for some of us, we truly use the credit card for the rewards. At any level, I truly believe with everything in me you cannot get through life without having a credit profile. Employers, insurance companies and lenders use this as a measuring tool of your ability to manage money. Not a measurement of wealth, but showing your "behaviors" when it comes to paying on time and how much you borrow.  What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you! Even if we don't see eye to eye, I grow in this life by learning of other perspectives and will keep an open mind to hearing yours. questions@creditkristi.com

Thoughts On How To Maximize Your Stimulus Check

Should I Close That Credit Card?
Whether there is a balance or not, don't close that credit card! But ESPECIALLY if there is a balance- do NOT close that account! I see people do it out of emotion..."I'll show you.... I won't do business with you anymore" Only to learn it hurts their credit score and not the credit card company to do that! Or sometimes the thought it, "I have had this card since college and the interest rate isn't great" and so the card gets closed. But if that is your longest standing tradeline and you just ended it? That could really hurt your credit history (since it is based on the longest OPEN tradeline).  Listen in for a quick lesson and guidance from Credit Kristi.

What I do know to be true, is one day you may wake up, like I did, and feel so smothered by the debt load, it didn't feel like there were any options to get out from under it.   There are options, it is just a matter of knowing and understanding that there are resources and steps you can take. Warning: Creditors Are Reducing or Closing Credit Cards
Between May 2020-July 2020, credit card companies have reduced limits or closed credit cards entirely and involuntarily to more than 70 million people. This number may be growing as economic concerns linger and the pandemic continues.  With millions of people unemployed, millions not paying their mortgage, and many unknowns during this crazy year (then add an election in there!), credit card companies are scared they are going to be left holding the bag. Much like what happened back during the last recession, credit card companies are trying to limit their exposure to loss. However, if it is a credit card that you have had for many years, its closure can hurt your credit history and a reduced limit can hinder a great debt utilization factor which in turn would lower your credit scores.  Listen in for your warning and a few suggestions to help protect yourself as much as possible.

What Do I Do About Collections?
Many people have collections on their credit report. Some it seems its their only things reporting, and others are devastated when a collection appears and may be unsure what to do now.  There are different types of collections and the age, or how long it has been on your credit report has a lot to do with what might be the recommendation of how to handle it.  Now although I am not a credit repair agency nor can paying or not paying a collection have an adverse effect that is different than your goal, just having an understanding of collections can help you better decide what to do to handle that situation. Medical vs. non-medical, true debt vs mis-reporting... it all has an impact on your if it hits your credit. Listen in to learn more!

Forbearance and Deferment of Your Mortgage Can Have Some Big Impacts!
There are literally millions of people in deferment or forbearance of their mortgage loan, and many more considering this route. This year sure has given a beating to many people. If you are in or considering one of these options, please listen in as there are some ramifications that are possibly unexpected. I think those regulators that jumped in so quickly in March/April to bring about the CARES Act, that they didn't know the impact of a word. I think they intended on allowing a deferment, but said the word forbearance. And you will learn these are two very different animals. However, if you are intending on refinancing or getting a new purchase mortgage loan in the near future, you may be halted because of this regulation that lies underneath a deferment or forbearance.

Let's Get Real About Credit- It's That Important!
If you are looking to borrow money for a purchase of a car or home, you NEED a good credit score to not have to overpay in higher interest rates and unnecessary finance charges. It's THAT important! I have many people I speak with saying they have a great job history, money in the bank but they have a terrible credit score. They do matter, but only AFTER you have the proper score. So let's commit, let's get into action and get those scores up so we can save you a ton of money over the life of that next loan. ***Please forgive the qualify- my computer picked up the wrong microphone and sometimes, it just doesn't make sense to re-record!

Will disputing negative information on my credit report help me?
When discussing credit, I often hear people that have negative marks on their credit report say they are going to dispute those marks. All fine and well if it is actually not accurate. But if you truly forgot to pay that last utility bill when you moved last (and ended up with a collection) or you really did forget to make that credit card payment (and ended up with a 30-day late payment) then a dispute is only a temporary help to your credit score. When that dispute is investigated and proven to be valid, the dispute is removed and your score is impacted negatively. But there is a potential BIGGER problem when you have disputes and are applying for a mortgage. Listen in for more!

Let's face it, the lower the score, often the higher the rates you pay when you borrow money. Don't get mad, get knowledgeable! NMLS #754092.  Company NMLS# 210950.
