Episode 55 The Bachelor: Were These Men Even on Clare’s Season??? (Bachelorette Season 16, Week 8)
These men are really starting to open up, and we love it. This week Tayshia had a 1-on-1 date with Zac C. Zac C shares his story of previously being married, discovering a brain tumor, developing a drug addiction, and his recovery! (Content Warning: discussion of addiction) There’s a group date where the guys have to make a couple of different art projects, a lot of the guys get really vulnerable and we love to see it. We also get a deeply personal story from Ben who shares his battle with bulimia. (Content Warning: discussion of eating disorders) Tayshia also goes ghost hunting with Eazy. Because of his current sexual assault allegations (that production is aware of), Megan gives some statistics on sexual assault in the US, and decided to recap the rest of the date calling him "That Guy". She had to recap the date to creep out Danielle - you know Danielle hates the ghosty whoasties! (Content Warning: discussion of rape and sexual assault) We also get some ridiculously unnecessary drama with Bennett and Noah that we both could have gone without. Send them both home! Link discussed in this episode: Date Card Pod - Danielle joined the chat regarding last week’s episode! RAINN.org (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network) - Hotline is 800-656-HOPE (4673) and there is a chat feature on their website - both are available 24/7. Merch Sale! It remains the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history. 168 people were killed. 19 of those were children. Another 680+ people were injured in the blast. Episode 54 True Crime: The 2016 Spalding Shooting (Murder of Claire and Charlotte Hart)
This week we saw the BEST episode of the Bachelor Nation franchise (according to us). During the conversation between Ivan Hall and Tayshia, Ivan discusses his brother’s incarceration and how it affected his family. Often, the family members of offenders are looked over and not recognized as survivors. Danielle tells the story of the 2016 Spalding Shooting. Claire and her children (Charlotte, Ryan, and Luke) spent years being tortured by their father, Lance, in a house of horror. Lance had planned to kill his wife and daughter for weeks. Claire and Charlotte finally escaped and fled the home, only to be gunned down by Lance who then turned the gun on himself. Ryan and Luke took action after their father was given excuses, by family and the media, for his actions. Ryan and Luke made it their mission to bring light to the events that led up to the shooting and posthumously hold their father accountable for what he did. Episode 53 The Bachelor: Black Lives Matter (Season 16, Week 7)
This week on the group date the men to write songs for Tayshia, and Ivan won (Bennett did a rap, we hated it)! So, we get to see a lot of one on one time with Tayshia and Ivan, and we are here for ALL *clap* OF *clap* IT *clap*. We see them together on a “normal” date at home. Ivan also talks about his brother who was previously incarcerated. The two talk about George Floyd, Black Lives Matter and about being biracial. It’s so impactful and feels like a genuine conversation. Representation still matters. Black Lives still Matter. This week’s POC highlight goes to Jordan C (AKA Shemar Moore), who is the Software Account Executive from New York. We also highlight POC guest star, Sydney Lotuaco from Season 23 of the Bachelor (Colton Underwood) and Bachelor in Paradise. Lastly, we see the departure of one of our favorite contestants, Doctor Joe. We will miss you dearly Doctor Joe and if we don’t get to see you on a beach, we WILL riot at dawn! Episode 52 True Crime: The Murders of Janet Jordon, Philip Howard & Derin (aka Dezzy) and The Murders of Nancy and Daniel Benoit
This week we saw Chasen Nick call himself Wolverine. We are convinced no one calls him that but his damn self (*insert eye roll*). Danielle covers the UK Wolverine Murders. Jed Allen had a traumatic upbringing with his drug-addicted mother Janet. Nothing could prepare the world for what Jed was capable of and would do on May 23, 2015. Content Warning: child murder and suicide. (Story starts at 5:00). This week’s group date was a problematic wrestling match! Megan took a note from Danielle’s world and went down the professional wrestling rabbit hole and covered the double murder and suicide of Nancy, Daniel, and Chris Benoit. Content Warning: Domestic Violence, Child Victim, Suicide. (Story starts at 30:08). Episode 51 The Bachelor: Chicken Legs & Carlos vs. Fraudulent “Wolverine” (Season 16, Week 6)
This week there was a lot of unnecessary drama between Ed, Chasen and Bennett and we were not here for any of it. The toxic masculinity in this episode was OVER THE TOP as the men start to focus their attention on each other, the drama and not Tayshia. We also saw a wrestling event, which reminded us of our episode on the Fabulous Moolah, Episode 38 you can check that out here. We say goodbye to POC contestant Montel Hill (who just got there). Our POC highlight is Doctor Joe, AKA Dr. Joseph Park. We love the jokes and the genuine connection he is making with Tayshia! Give us MORE! We get into a DEEP conversation about colorism and the Bachelor Franchise. It’s an important conversation, one that we truly hope ABC takes to heart. This convo starts at 1:08:16. Episode 50 True Crime: The Crimes of Lisa Nowak and the Murders of Larissa Dumansky and Piper Streyle
Megan’s story this week is based on one of our favorite contestants, Ivan! Ivan was our POC highlight of the week, and we love him. Ivan is an aeronautical engineer, so Megan tells the wild story of NASA Astronaut Lisa Nowak and the attempted kidnapping of Captain Colleen Shipman. Thankfully Captain Shipman survived and seems to be thriving now. (Story starts at 9:19). This week we had a rude interruption from Chris Harrison with an unnecessary update from Clare and Dale (like we didn’t see their journey 2 seconds ago *insert eye roll here*). Danielle has been waiting to cover a South Dakota case seeing as though Dale is from Brandon, South Dale-kota (she thinks this joke is funny, Megan was not amused). Danielle covers the murder of Piper Streyle that opens a pandora’s box and reveals a sexual sadist serial killer among the small town of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Content Warning: Sexual Assault. (Story starts at: 34:38). Episode 49 The Bachelor: It's Finally Tayshia Time Bitches (Bachelorette Season 16, Week 5)
It’s finally time for Tayshia! We had the honor to see Tayshia meet the men (and surprise … more men), have group dates, and go on a one on one date. Tayshia is a breath of fresh air into this season and we are HERE FOR IT. Also in this episode, we get an update from Clare and Dale who seem really happy together. If Clare likes it, we love it! Danielle does, an incredibly fast rapid-fire, recap of their time on our screen (AGAIN). Our POC highlight this week features Ivan, who FINALLY got the screen time he deserved!  Ivan is an Aeronautical engineer born in Chicago, who makes his way to us from Dallas, Texas. We cannot wait to see more of Ivan and Tayshia in the very near future. Make sure you listen through the end - we included a short outtake for you! Episode 48 True Crime: The Murder of Madame Rose Leon and the Murder of Bianca Devins
This week we saw Chris Watson and Bri Stauss from, The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart, serenade Clare and Dale on their first one-on-one. Chris calls himself Jahatian, which is Haitian and Jamaican. Danielle covers the murder of prominent political figure and business woman, Madame Rose Leon in Kingston, Jamaica. (Story starts at: 11:43) As this week was, once again, the Clare and Dale show, Clare talked to Chris Harrison about how she checked out each guy on social media, which is unfortunately how Bianca Devins met the man who killed her. Bianca was an awesome 17-year-old who just wanted to help people with mental illness. Content Warning: self-harm, suicide attempt mention. Episode 47 The Bachelor: We Don't Know if We Need Drinks, or Sleep, or What!? (Bachelorette Season 16, Week 4)
We are joined by amazing and mysterious Amanda and Cassidy from Drinking the Kool-Aid Pod! Amanda is a superfan of the show and long time watcher.  This was Cassidy’s FIRST EVER Bachelor Franchise episode! In this episode, we finally find out how Clare “blows up the Bachelorette” by proclaiming her love for Dale and dumping with the rest of the guys. Clare and Dale have a lot of relationship firsts in this episode - the first one-on-one date, first dance, and first PROPOSAL. In this episode, we also get to see our friends, Chris and Bri, from Listen to Your Heart! They sing “Found You” from their first album. You can check out our interview with them here! Our POC highlight this week features Demar, the spin instructor from Scottsdale, Arizona. Demar rocked the heck out of a black on black suit and looked absolutely amazing. Episode 46 True Crime: The story of Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker and the Murders of Brett Goldin and Richard Bloom
This week Dale came to save the day when trash bag Yosef came for Clare in the most disrespectful way. In addition, we saw Tayshia at the end of the episode come out of the water like Ariel, from The Little Mermaid, to save us from the downward spiral this season is taking. Based on that, Danielle covers another hero, Kai, who saves a woman from a man that claims to have the power of Jesus and strikes a man with his car. There is a dark twist in Kai’s story that leads him to a very different outcome than expected for this “hero”. (Story starts at 11:17) This week’s Bachelorette episode featured a roast, hosted by hilarious comedian Margaret Cho! Megan covers a case featuring a comedian’s murder, the Capetown murders of Brett Goldin and Richard Bloom. These two were in the wrong place at the wrong time, unfortunately, and were found naked and shot execution-style. Episode 45 The Bachelor: Here to Please, not Appease (Bachelorette Season 16 Week 3)
This week was a MESS (in the best way possible). We get drama, love and everything you need in a Bachelorette episode. We talk about our feelings surrounding Yosef and Clare’s interaction (and Yosef’s departure), and how this week seemed to be the Dale Show 2.0. How is that possible?! This episode gives us TWO group dates (one with a canceled day date) and a 1-on-1, and every remaining man has a date this week, but do all of them survive the episode? Spoiler, Dale does. Our POC highlight of the week is Garin Flowers. We also had to say goodbye to Garin this week. He was the man from Florida who is a Professor of Journalism at the University of Southern California. Episode 44 True Crime: The Murder of Wayne Amey and George Teazis (aka George Templeton) and The Murder of Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott
This week we witnessed a VERY problematic game of Bachelor strip dodgeball. This isn’t the first problematic game we have heard of (listen to our interview with Erica Rose here). Forced nudity is never okay, regardless of gender. Further, in the episode, it was made to appear that this date was all Clare’s idea. We know this is far from the truth as the leads don’t pick dates, production does. Production, let’s do better - let’s do much better. We both talk about crimes related to the strip theme. Danielle covers the case of exotic dancer Robyn Lindholm, who has been called a Black Widow, Femme Fatale, Master Manipulator and Lady McBeth in Lycra. Robyn convinced her new lover to kill her ex-lover, not once … but TWICE. (Story starts at: 11:33). Megan then covers the case of the murder of Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott. Lizzi seems like she was just such a sweetheart, and was just trying to make more friends. But these two friends had a different plan and murdered Lizzi after a game of strip poker went very, very wrong. Content Warning: Rape and Sexual Assault, conversations about bondage and BDSM (Story starts at: 54:41). Episode 43 The Bachelor: A Bunch of Orange Flags (Bachelorette Season 16 Week 2)
Oh boy, this week we saw very problematic behavior and awkward moments: toxic masculinity, unnecessary strip dodgeball, trauma therapy on the first date, Clare confronting men left and right, breaking rules etc. While we talk about it all, we are joined by our fellow lady lawyer and Cutie Kelcee!  Kelcee last joined us on the pod in June for the recap of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s GOAT season (check that out here). We tried to Kelcee sign up for Matt James season of the Bachelor, but she wasn’t having it. This episode we make a bet that if Demar doesn’t get Clare’s final rose, we can slide in his DMs about her awesomeness. Since Danielle lost a bet with Loren from The Basic Bitch Podcast (Minnesota Vikings lost by 1 point), at halftime Danielle recites the 5 things she likes about Loren and 5 things she likes about their podcast. Episode 42 True Crime: The Murder of Andrew Gardner and the Murder of Bernardo Gouthier
This week we watched the premiere of the 16th season of the Bachelorette, starring Clare Crawley! Due to COVID-19, the entire season is being filmed at the La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, California, and not at the Bachelor Mansion. Megan covers a case committed by another woman named Clare. Fair warning, it’s a very hard case, it is an incredibly horrific instance of domestic violence. Andrew Gardner, the victim in this case, was tortured for months by his girlfriend, Clare Nicholls. (This story starts at 9:47). Danielle takes on a case from La Quinta, California. This case didn’t seem to get the coverage it deserved. Danielle tells the twisted story of the murder of Bernardo Gouthier, a Brazillian art dealer who was the subject of a possible murder for hire plot by his girlfriend's ex-husband. Episode 39 True Crime: The Murder of Amie Harwick and the Murder of Laurie Show
This week we both cover cases involving stalking, due to the recent allegations made by Cassie Randolph against Colton Underwood (The Bachelor Seasons 23). First and foremost we need to say that on this podcast we believe women, and we hope Cassie is safe and able to get the help she needs during this time. Given the nature of the cases and topics we cover, we’re putting a larger content warning here. CONTENT WARNING: stalking, harassment, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, violence against women. In addition, those that have not been convicted are innocent until proven guilty. Danielle loves a timeline, and she shares a timeline of events of Cassie and Colton’s relationship. The timeline starts at 11:07. Megan gives stats on stalking both in the intimate partner violence (read: domestic violence) setting and non-intimate partner violence setting. The stats session begins at 27:33. Danielle tells the story of the stalking and murder of Amie Harwick who was an absolute BOSS of a woman. Amie, who was well known in her own right and her work in the LGBTQ+ community, became even more well known due to her previous engagement to actor and comedian Drew Carrey. This story is an example of intimate partner stalking and intimate partner violence. (Note: Drew Carrey is NOT the alleged perpetrator of this crime). This story starts at 35:52. Megan tells the story of the stalking and murder of 15-year-old Laurie Show. Laurie was murdered by a trio of gross young people. This story is an example of non-intimate partner violence and stalking. CONTENT WARNING: sexual assault (no details, Megan promises). This story starts at 1:04:15. Episode 36 The Bachelor: Juan Pablo, Bad Guy or Bad Edit? (Juan Pablo GOAT recap)
This week on the GOAT was "the worst Bachelor in franchise history" Juan Pablo Galavis. They basically used his season as a catalyst to show us Clare before the Bachelorette begins. Chris Harrison has some very strong feelings about Juan Pablo that he makes SUPER CLEAR. We question his motivations ABC fully decided to give Juan Pablo a villain edit, but for some reason didn’t go FULL edit. This was Megan’s first season of the Bachelor ever, and Danielle never saw the season so Megan was able to add some additional context for Danielle. Danielle tallies up Juan Pablo’s POC points and Danielle was done tallying points in the first ~20 minutes of this episode. Juan Pablo’s POC point total is 22. The POC Point tally includes: Juan Pablo (10 points), Sharleen Joynt (10 points), Danielle Ronco (1 point), and Chantel Forest (1 point). The discussion is at 1:07:28. Episode 35 True Crime: The Murder of Kim Groves, Operation Shattered Shield and The Murder of Jun Lin
This week on the GOAT was Nick Viall, who’s Megan’s favorite Bachelor. Megan talked about a few facts about him in Episode 22 (listen here). The theme of these crimes we discuss is BOLD AND PROBLEMATIC.  Danielle’s story is the biggest law enforcement corruption case that ended in murder. The murder of Kim Groves by officer Len Davis is based in New Orleans, like a one-on-one date, Nick and Rachel had there. Love you, Big Rach. (Story starts at 8:13) Danielle also has a brief discussion of Civil Law and what it really means and how it works. You know what that means, Crime and Roses Law School is IN SESSION. (Class starts at 18:19) The woman who got Nick’s final rose, and engagement ring, was Vanessa Grimaldi; she’s a special education teacher from Montreal, Canada, as is the case Megan covers, the murder of Jun Lin, which is connected to the Netflix docu-series, Don’t F*ck with Cats. (Content warning: this contains cannibalism). The Murder of Sherrice Iverson - A Patreon Exclusive
This is a sneak peek of our September 2020 BONUS True Crime Content, the Murder of Sherrice Iverson.  You can hear the full episode starting at the $3 level of our Patreon page, link here. CONTENT WARNING: This case involves the sexual assault and murder of a child. 7-year-old Sherrice Iverson, was roaming a casino in Primm, Nevada, alone after being in the care of her 14-year-old brother, Harold, in the casino's arcade. Sherrice's dad had driven in the middle of the night to gamble. This resulted in Sherrice running around unmonitored. Eventually, Jeremy Strohmeyer followed Sherrice into a women's restroom and took her life. The case drew national attention by focusing on the safety of children in casinos and on the revelation that Strohmeyer's friend, David Cash Jr., said he saw the crime in progress but did not stop it. If you need a mental break after this story, like Megan needed, here’s a link to a funny puppy video. Megan highly recommends.

Episode 34 The Bachelor: Nick, 5th Time's a Charm? (Nick Viall GOAT)
This week GOAT showed Nick Viall’s season ... to be honest, Nick’s season has it all: love stories, drama, diversity, AND our queen Rachel Lindsay-Abasolo! If you haven’t yet heard WAP, you need to - we mention it A LOT during this episode. Check it out here. We spend some time discussing the Taylor/Corinne drama from Nick’s season. We talk about emotional intelligence and emotional maturity. We talk about whether or not Taylor was bullying Corinne. We declare ourselves to be a podcast that is squarely against a nap shame. We will not stand for it. We also demand a recipe to cheese pasta (*NOT* cheesy pasta) to see if it’s what we think it is. Of course, we spend a decent amount of time loving on the icon and legend Rachel. Representation matters. In this GOAT episode, Chris talks to Tayshia and Natasha Parker about the impact of Rachel on this franchise,  there is more work to be done. Danielle tallies up Nick’s POC points and we have a new point leader! Nick’s GOAT recap gets 39 points! Episode 33 True Crime: The Black Widow of Sacramento and the Seal Beach Salon  Massacre
This was one of the first episodes we recorded, in a celebration of Clare Crawley who was announced as the Bachelorette for 2020… More info on that coming soon. In case you forgot (I mean, how could you??), Megan and Clare are from Sacramento. So Megan covers the many crimes of Sacramento’s most infamous serial killer, Dorthea Puente, who was charged with 9 counts of murder. This case has a surprise personal twist for Megan! (Story starts at 7:08) Clare is a hair stylist in California, so Danielle covers the Seal Beach Salon Meritage massacre. The shooting took the lives of 8 people and affected so many more, including the surviving victim (Story starts at 37:55). Megan also mentioned the movie Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig’s love letter to Sacramento,  that everyone should watch. It’s available on Netflix! Check it out ASAP and send us an email with your thoughts. Episode 32 True Crime: The Murder of Keri Colleen “KC” Gauf, the Death of Alexander Beletsis and Other Greek Hazing Deaths
This week we recapped Jason Mesnick’s season of the Bachelor, and the woman who got his final rose, Melissa Rycroft, was a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Megan covers the story of the 2017 murder of Keri Colleen Gauf by her husband, former Dallas Cowboys player, Anthony McClanahan. Content warning: Domestic violence, intimate partner violence. (Story starts at 21:09) Since Jason was a member of Theta Chi fraternity at the University of Washington and Chris Harrison sent his son (and TV director) to college, Danielle talks about university hazing. There has been at least one university hazing death every year from 1969 to 2017. Danielle goes down the rabbit hole of hazing and covers the hazing case of Alexander Beletsis from Theta Chi at UC Santa Cruz and several other cases from 2010 to present. (Story starts at 59:19) Unrelated to true crime but important, Megan shares the recipe for a “Megatini.” It’s wine (right now Megan prefers rosé), a non-alcoholic seltzer water (grapefruit is really tasty), and lime juice. Links mentioned in the Episode: National Domestic Violence Hotline - Megan’s organization of the week! Episode 31: The Bachelor Amazing Women, Drama, & Love (Jason Mesnick GOAT recap)
This week we cover the recap of Jason Mesnick’s season! It’s a season full of some amazing women (we love Melissa, Molly, and Stephanie the mostest), love, and some BIG drama. Because this happened a decade ago and news outlets and social media exists, it's no secret that Jason and Molly are married BUT it wasn’t Molly who got Jason’s final rose! Jason’s season really does have it all (except diversity). Danielle gives the tea! Tea includes: Astrid Loch & Kevin Wendt, Wells Adams, Ari & Lauren Luyendyk, Hannah Ann,  Mike Johnson, Jesse Palmer, Marc Bucker & Marisia van Wyk, Ben Zorn, Becca Kufrin & Garrett Yrigoyen, Nick Viall,  Vanessa Grimaldi, Jojo Fletcher & Jordan Rodgers. The POC (People of Color) points of the week was a total of FOUR. DISAPPOINTING. We honestly are not sure if Naomi Crespo is POC so we gave a bonus 3. We also saw Raquel Medeiros, for less than a second, who is from Brazil. If you’ve got some time and want to watch all of Jason’s season, it’s available on Netflix. Episode 30: The Murders of Alison Parker and Adam Ward and the Massachusetts Drug Lab Scandal
This week’s GOAT episode was all about Ali Fedotowsky! Ali was the 6th Bachelorette, circa 2010. Ali is from Massachusetts (Williamstown, specifically), and after her time as the Bachelorette, she went on to do some news correspondent work. Megan talks about the murders of Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who seemed like just amazing human beings. Alison, like Ali, was a news correspondent, and Adam was her trusty cameraman. Alison and Adam worked for the WDBJ station outside of Roanoke, Virginia and were unfortunately shot and killed by a man they used to work with, Vester Flanagan II (aka Bryce Williams) in 2015. (Content Warning: suicide) (Story starts at 10:23) Danielle discusses the Massachusetts Drug Lab Scandal. Two women, Annie Dookhan and Sonja Farak, compromised the entire Massachusetts judicial system with Annie falsifying documents to remain the superstar of the office and Sonja battling a serious drug addiction. Danielle also discusses the ACLU's fight for justice for the over 75,000 convictions. A lot of her information came from "How to Fix a Drug Scandal" which is available on Netflix. (Story starts at 41:38) Megan shares some true crime news: a development in the appeals case surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing, Robert Durst’s murder trial is postponed, and in light of the murder of Vanessa Guillen, the Army names an independent panel to review Fort Hood’s command and culture. Danielle also shares a quick update from a CR cutie (thanks friend, @ari.elle6) about one of the exonerated M25 Three, Raphael Rowe (related to our Episode 18), who is now an Executive Producer on Netflix’s World’s Toughest Prisons (Season 4). BONUS EPISODE Interview with Erica Rose from Bachelor Season 9 and the Betty Broderick Story!
This week we spoke with Erica Rose, who originally appeared on The Bachelor Season 9 (Lorenzo Borghese’s season set in Rome) and went on to appear in Bachelor Pad Season 2 and Season 3. Erica was, unfortunately, a target in a REALLY messed up game on Bachelor Pad Season 2 called “Target on Your Back”. We discuss the incident and talk about what the show can do to help contestants with their mental health. Then, since Erica is a Crime & Roses Cutie like us,  we talk about her family law practice, true crime and some ghosty whosties.  Danielle then tells the story of Betty Broderick who had a SUPER messy divorce and then killed her husband and his new wife. (Story starts at 57:56). Megan shares some True Crime News (check it out at 46:43): a member of the Manson Family is up for parole (Leslie Van Houten), a Nazi concentration camp guard was convicted of over 5,200 crimes related to his time at the Stutthof concentration camp, murder charges have been filed in a 34-year-old cold case in Oklahoma, and Derek Chauvin (and his wife) are facing some new charges-- these are unrelated to the death of George Floyd. Episode 29 True Crime: Shared Madness Podcast Crossover. The Atlanta Child Murders and the Disappearance and Murder of Heather McDonald
This week we have a special guest on the pod! Madison, the host from Shared Madness Podcast, Madison, joins us to talk about crimes from Atlanta, as Brad Womack is from Atlanta, Georgia. Danielle covers the history and fun facts about Atlanta. Madison covers the high profile case of the Atlanta Child Murders of and Wayne Williams.  From 1979 to 1981 at least 28 children, adolescents, and adults were killed. Wayne Williams, an Atlanta native, was arrested, tried, and convicted of two of the adult murders and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Megan discusses the disappearance and murder of Heather McDonald, just outside of Atlanta in Cartersville, Georgia. This is an unsolved case and Heather’s family and friends deserve some answers. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Cartersville Police Department at 770-382-2526 or the GBI’s Calhoun Regional Office at 706-624-1424. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information about the death of Heather McDonald. Episode 27 True Crime: The Murder of Abby Vandiver and the 2014 Isla Vista Killings
This week there was not a Bachelor GOAT episode but we still have a true crime Bachelor related episode for you! Danielle talks about the continued trauma that LaNease Adams and other Bachelor POC contestants have faced after being on the show. She connects her story with the constant victimization the loved ones of Abby Vandiver’s family suffered, when her young life was tragically and viciously taken too soon in Dunwoody, Georgia. Megan talks about a super difficult case, the 2014 Isla Vista shootings, committed by Elliott Rodger, a self-identified Incel. This creep killed 6 people, and injured another 14. Megan walks through what “Incel” means, and talks about some related Incel incidents of violence and how it’s related to some of the toxic masculinity we see on the Bachelor franchise *cough* Chad Johnson *cough*. (Content Warnings on this one: severe violence against women, mass shooting, and toxic masculinity.) Megan also covers some true crime news: the disappearance of Naya Rivera, the execution of a Texas inmate, arrests made in the death of rapper Pop Smoke, and Donald Trump commuting the sentence of his long time friend and political adviser, Roger Stone. First story starts at 14:10. Second story starts at 54:11. Episode 26 True Crime: The First Recorded United States Trial The Manhattan Well Murder of Elma Sands and the Legends of Lavinia Fisher - the First Female Serial Killer in the United States
In honor of Alex being the first Bachelor and Trista being the first Bachelorette, we both took that theme of firsts and ran with it. Danielle discusses the first recorded trial in the United States, The Manhattan Well Murder of Gulielma “Elma” Elmore Sands. The Defendant in the case, Levi Weeks, had a star-studded cast of attorneys, including Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton (yes we do discuss Hamilton the play a lot in the episode, which Megan got Danielle obsessed with). Megan talks about the legends surrounding Lavinia Fisher, who is widely thought to be the first female serial killer in the United States. Pro Tip: Don’t eat Oleander flowers, and don’t drink Lavinia’s tea. We also share very recent true crime news about the heartbreaking death of Vanessa Guillen, we share some bad news about the sentence a Georgia child pornographer Peter Mallory and we chat briefly about Ghislane Maxwell, long time romantic partner (and alleged partner in crime) to the piece of shit that is Jeffrey Epstein. Episode 25 The Bachelor: Crime and Roses Investigates: Crime and Roses Investigates: Where Is Alex? ... Godmother of Bachelorette Trista! (GOAT Alex Michel & Trista Sutter)
This week Bachelor GOAT covered two seasons in one night - Alex Michel and Trista Rehn. Alex was the first Bachelor, and Trista Rehn (now Sutter) was the first Bachelorette. This episode was a time capsule back to 2002 and 2003 and man was that a rough time for fashion and eyebrows. We get to see lots of Bachelor Nation firsts: the first kiss, the first steal, the first “not here to make friends”, and the first medical emergency of the series. We also get to see the first wedding in Bachelor Nation history - the wedding of Trista and Ryan Sutter! There’s a reason Trista is referred to as the “Godmother” of the franchise, she’s such a sweet soul. We have tea this week, unlike Cassie. We discuss Tyler C., Kaitlyn Bristowe, Shawn Booth, and Garrett from Hannah Brown’s season. The POC (People of Color) points for the week were sad, VERY SAD, especially with the fact that we saw 2 recap seasons in one! We saw LaNease go on a date and give the first kiss of the franchise and then … basically nothing! Shout out to our C&R Cuties of the week @digits and @jeanster724, love you mean it! Episode 24: True Crime: The Honor Killings of Gelareh Bagherzadeh and Coty Beavers and the Murder of Muhlaysia Booker
This week’s episode is a little long but necessary and emotional, sorry not sorry. Megan focuses on the 2012 honor killings of Gelareh Bagherzadeh and Coty Beavers. She does a deep dive into what honor killings even are… which, in the very simplest of terms is an EXTREME form of a family disagreement and just gross and violent. As many people in Bachelor Nation know, Jordan Rodgers, JoJo Fletcher’s fiancee is also the brother of Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. They’ve got a rather difficult relationship and have been estranged for quite some time. Megan does a deep dive into the brothers and their relationship and connects it all to the murders of Gelareh Bagherzadeh and Coty Beavers. Danielle talks about the assault and recent murder of Muhlaysia Booker who was a transgender woman from the bustling LGBTQ+ community of Dallas, Texas, where Joelle “JoJo” Fletcher and Chris Harrison are from. (If you want to skip the Bachelor talk, the first story kinda starts at 18:56 and really starts at 42:12 and the second story starts at 1:14:11). We also share some true crime news about: The Golden State Killer, The disappearance of Vanessa Guillen, a mini update about Lori Vallow, and COVID at San Quentin. This week we saw Joelle “JoJo” Fletcher break some hearts and get her happily ever after on The Bachelor: GOAT. We had the opportunity to catch up with one of the men JoJo let get away and who we saw appear on our favorite Bachelor franchise show, Winter Games, Luke Pell! We are reminded what a sweetheart (this) Luke is as we talk about his time on the show, his recent breakup with Amanda Mertz, what’s next for the business owner and country singer and it wouldn’t be us unless we talked a little true crime at the end! Episode 23 The Bachelor: Chef's Kiss or Hot Garbage: The Men of Jojo's Season (GOAT Joelle “JoJo” Fletcher)

Episode 22 True Crime: The Murder of April Tinsley and the Exoneration of Nick Yarris
This week we discuss the murder of April Tinsley in Indiana, where Bachelor Ben Higgins is from, whose murder was solved decades later thanks to DNA technology (WARNING: This story involves the sexual assault and murder of a child). We also discuss the murder of Linda Craig and the exoneration of Nick Yarris who spent 22 years on death row after being wrongfully convicted of Linda’s murder. Both of the Nicks get a redemption story this time around, and Megan loves that. Also, because of our recent conversation around Just Mercy, Megan felt the need to continue the conversation this week with a story of another wrongfully convicted person. BONUS EPISODE! The Bachelor: LTYH Crossover Discussion with The Bachelor Zone Podcast
This week we had the opportunity to be guests on The Bachelor Zone podcast, during their final episode of the "Listen to Your Heart (Or Listen to Us)" trilogy. These dope gents are known for their unique, hard-hitting Bachelor stats and analysis. We gave our best closing argument to assist them in solving their conundrum of should they be watching The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart. See their show notes below: For the final episode of our Listen To Your Heart (Or Listen to Us) trilogy we're joined all the way from the ATL by the hilarious ladies from the Crime and Roses podcast: the podcast about both The Bachelor universe AND true crime (a match made in heaven)... Danielle and Megan. They tell us some of the inside info they've gleaned from their own interviews with Bachelor officials about what goes into making " Listen to Your Heart" and whether or not the novelty changes to the rulebook will have an effect on the rest of the Bachelor Universe moving forward. We also try to hash out what it might take for the Bachelor franchise to finally take bigger steps towards representation and diversity within the show, and the ways in which they've been seriously lacking in that department up to this point, and finally using their expertise both as ACTUAL attorneys Danielle and Megan make the closing arguments and force us to give a final verdict on "Listen to Your Heart".
