It's possible to look like a Christian and even claim to be one, but not be. Jesus gives the Church at Sardis and us an opportunity to continue "to work out our salvation with fear and trembling." Because Jesus rose, no one is ever too dead to be resurrected. If you hear His voice, respond. Wake up! Receive the good news, fight to remember what Christ has done and is doing and when you fail, repent.
It's easy to justify things based on what we want to hear. Sometimes it's easier to tolerate certain sins rather than trusting God and holding firm to truth. In our culture sin seems normal and righteousness seems weird. We must take great care to follow Christ in faith even when it's hard and inconvenient by remembering that while sin seems easy it will never take us where we want to go. Jesus, however, will. He is for us and He will do whatever it takes to help us persevere in faith!
We live in a culture that is actively seeking to subvert the truth on every level. Thus, it's vital that we stay vigilant in our fight to remain faithful to the truth. When we allow unbiblical, popular beliefs of the day to creep into the Church there will be consequences. Ongoing repentance is key!
7 | The Church of Revelation is a series meant to help us discover what true faith looks like in a world characterized by spiritual opposition. The big idea of this particular message to the Church at Ephesus is: love Jesus more than His law! True faith must always be accompanied with love. If there is no love, we're in trouble! Remembering what Christ has done for us and how much we have been forgiven ourselves will help us love Jesus as well as others.
Often times we focus more on what God would have us do, but that misses the point. God is primarily concerned with what Christ has done so that we don't have to do anything but be with Him. If we focus on that as our mission, everything else will follow.
The only way to keep yourself from coveting is to want God more than you want anything else. In Philippians 4, Paul lays out for us how we go about receiving a new heart with desires that are only satisfied by God.
Before leaving home as a teenager, my mom always said, "remember who you are!" In much the same way you carry your family name with you wherever you go, how you speak and act reflects back on your family, in the same way, Christians are to carry God's name in a way that inspires the awe and respect that is due to Him alone. Lord Jesus, help us carry your name well in the the ways we live and speak.
Our sexual compass is completely off as a culture and sadly as individuals. We are all sexually broken. What does the Bible say about sex and how can realign ourselves with God to enjoy what was meant to be a good gift? 1 Corinthians 6 and 7 give us an idea.
In Genesis 3 everything good creation of God broke. This rupture in the fabric of the universe created spin factories in our hearts where not only do we put out fake news headlines but now we also live in a world where spiritual fake news is the norm. Satan is behind all of it. He is the father of lies. This week we learn where Satan came from and how to fight his fake news headlines in our lives
Jesus came and He's coming again. What are you waiting for this Christmas? Waiting for Jesus' return will make you like a child waiting on Christmas morning, eager and responsive to God in relationship.
A Christian's spirituality is not defined or judged by following rules and regulations, having spiritual and supernatural experiences, or suffering and minimalism. The truly Spirit-filled believer can judge their spirituality based on their relationship with Jesus. It's all about Jesus, knowing Him, loving Him, enjoying Him, bringing glory to Him. If you abide in Jesus, you'll be spiritually fulfilled and able to spot the counterfeits of Christianity put forth in our culture.
If you're gonna own a vehicle and especially if you plan to do some off-roading in that vehicle, you're going to need a owners manual, access to youtube, and preferable a mechanic friend. Maintenance is key to keep that car running in ship-shop shape. A Church needs similar check ups and a maintenance schedule to keep it in alignment as do we in our faith journey. Colossians is a letter written by Paul and Timothy, seasoned mechanics in the faith, to the Church at Colossae specifying what things to be on the look out for and a kind of maintenance schedule to keep in the faith.
We'll examined the first eight verses and discovered that God is the one who grants hope and from that hope cultivates faith and love for the saints in His people.
