S5E6 - Nobody Wants to Work
Lexi and their friend Oliver explore the nuance behind the idea that "nobody wants to work." They talk about inhumane working conditions, how capitalism keeps us so busy it makes it difficult to do anything but work, and the idea that we are meant for more than a 40 hour work week.

S4E7 - Black Therapists Deserve Better
In today's modern cancel culture, it seems the public is more willing to doxx marginalized folks, specifically Black people whom they disagree with, when white people saying similar things don’t receive nearly the same level of backlash. In this episode, Lexi highlights three specific instances over the past 6 months or so that involved a Black mental health care provider has been dog-piled after stating objective truths or setting personal boundaries and challenges listeners to reflect and attempt to respond to things that trigger us, rather than reacting.

S4E4 - Emotional Abuse Case Studies, Pt. 1: Jonah Hill and Sarah Brady
The internet was in full debate mode recently when Sarah Brady, Jonah Hill's ex girlfriend, shared text message exchanges between her and Hill that she labeled as "emotionally abusive." A lot of people saw these texts as what they were and called it out as emotional abuse, while many others responded incredulously that this behavior was normal in a relationship.
In the episode, Lexi summarizes the text exchanges and highlights instances of manipulation and Hill trying to control his partner under the guise of "boundaries and healthy communication."

S4E3 - Capitalism Hates Poor People!!!!, Pt. 3: Predatory Student Loans
Capitalism is designed to keep the poor poor, while making the rich richer. One of the tenets of capitalism is keeping the lower class in debt as a way to unequally distribute power. In America, wealth directly correlates to power, and when an entire generation is fed the lie that "going to college will make you successful," only to come out the other end in crippling student debt in a society where a Bachelor's degree is barely enough qualifications to make minimum wage.
In this episode, Lexi explores their own experience with predatory student loans and the how their student debt has been a huge factor in their declining mental health.

S4E2 - Capitalism Hates Poor People!!!!, Pt. 2: I'm Always Exhausted
There are so many things we should be doing to be considered successful adults: working, socializing, saving for the future, work on relationships, among other personal responsibilities. Personally, I'm trying to build some small businesses and get back in touch with what I want to be doing, not what society says I should be. But I am always exhausted. I work long days just to get home in time to eat quickly and go to bed. I'm spending all of my free time recuperating so I'm ready to go to work again. I'm never able to relax or find time to do the things I want to.
In this episode, Lexi reflects on how the system is set up to keep the poor poor, tired, and working themselves to the bone for the wealthy elite.

The world is dying, catastrophic weather events are happening constantly, and the future is scary. Even though climate change could be significantly impacted if major corporations did their part, they pass the buck to the individual over and over again. Over time, we start to internalize that it's our fault if the environment gets worse... but is that true? In this episode, Lexi shares how they combat climate anxiety by doing what they can, where they can to save our planet.

Dr. J and Sedie really get into some of the reasons we, Black women specifically, suffer from a lack of self care and what we need to do to change that. We talk about why more Black and brown therapists are needed and how to find the affordability. Listening to this conversation you'll truly feel like a fly on the wall of a private, important and enlightening conversation.

Relatively Normal - S4 - Ep81 - The Uncommon Strength of Black Women with Danese Wright
I am stepping down for the month of February and instead elevating Black mental health podcasts. Please listen to this episode on Marc Paisant's channel so his channel gets the traffic and he gets his ad revenue. You can listen to the episode on his page here: S4 - Ep81 - The Uncommon Strength of Black Women with Danese Wright
"We all carry around stress. We all have inner demons that we have the hide under the guise that everything is alright. We all have to pick our times to be vulnerable while putting on a strong act around the public. For women, and more specifically black women, the stress and strain that envelops their lives is not only unique but it is harder and heavier than anyone one else's. Most people know the term "Strong Black Woman" and use it like it is a complement. However, do you really know how stressful and mentally exhausting it is to have to be STRONG all the time. When do black women get to rest? When do they get to lighten their load? When is the world going to repay them for the struggle they endure as women and people of color?
On this week's show, I welcome my guest, Danese Wright of Root Insurance, to talk about this important topic. She is a self-described "Experienced leader with a passion for driving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" who takes educating others about the extra stress of being a black women in modern day America very seriously.
I cannot say enough about Danese - she is smart, strong and a voice for change. The show will be available Monday, 9/6, at 5pm on any platform that you listen to podcasts.
You can always support the show by going to https://lnkd.in/dT6pVER and hitting that support button.
Thanks for all your support."

S3E19 - Coping Skills, Pt. 3: Moving Away From Judging How we Cope w/ Max
Humans like to put things into categories: good and bad, healthy and unhealthy. While categorizing helps inform us, it also lends itself to bias. When we label the things we do as "bad" or "unhealthy" it's only natural for us to feel guilty for engaging in those behaviors, even when those very behaviors are the only things helping us to survive. Lexi and guest Max share their thoughts on judging our coping mechanisms and how this can ultimately harm us in our journey to healing.

S3E14 - It's Okay to Be... Okay?
"It's okay not to be okay" is something we hear all the time. This phrase helps people who are struggling to stop berating themselves for being a human being. However, for those of us who have been struggling for an extended period of time, being OKAY and well is uncomfortable. We are so used to being in fight or flight mode and hyper vigilant of our surroundings. Or we’ve accepted that we will always feel numb and flat. So when the pain and depression subside, we don’t know what to do with ourselves. This episode is a reflection of how Lexi has been dealing with this new experience of being okay.
