In early 2016 he started Unblocked Inc., a blockchain consultancy company. In 2017 he organized the Shardus project to build a linearly scalable blockchain. Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel. His current research focus is DLT, Blockchain, Cryptoassets, and monetary policy instruments such as negative interest rates and balance sheet extensions. He is a research fellow at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, a technical advisor for the Bank for International Settlement in Basel, and a member of the advisory board of the thematic equity funds for Credit Suisse Asset Management. He also used to be an external consultant for the Swiss National Bank. He publishes in top academic journals such as the American Economic Review, the Review of Economic Studies, and the Journal of Monetary Economics, and is a co-author of the book "Bitcoin, Blockchain, and Cryptoassets" published in MIT-Press.

He studied at the Universities of Basel and Bern, and at the London School of Economics, and held visiting positions at the University of California in Berkeley, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Zurich, the Free University of Berlin and the Université Paris Dauphine. Hubert is a Senior Manager, and leads the Smart Contract Assurance practice of PwC Switzerland. He is specialized in code audits of blockchain-based systems. He earned his PhD from ETH Zurich in 2018, working on the security of cloud and blockchain services for 5+ years. During his research he proposed novel protocols and analyzed existing ones. Afterwards, Hubert co-founded ChainSecurity, a globally recognized brand in smart contract assurance. He has audited the smart contracts of over 50 clients.
