Season 3 of the CSEP Podcast will focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. This season the podcast takes a different approach to the typical format, and instead of a single host conducting a 1-on-1 interview, instead have a different panel of guests on each episode.

On this episode of the CSEP Podcast marginalized populations are discussed with our guests Cotie Guzman and Kate Andrews.

Cotie Guzman is the proud owner of Cotie Guzman Fitness an Edmonton based personal trainer. Cotie's training focuses on  creating a friendly and inclusive space in order to help the 2SLGBTQ+  community get started with their fitness. He works with individuals who  are new and/or scared to make their first steps in a gym setting  creating that bridge from precontemplation to action/maintenance. Kate Andrews is the Chair of the CSEP Professional Standards Program® and is also the Chair of the personal fitness trainer program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

On this episode listeners are also introduced to the future host of  Season 4 of the CSEP Podcast Abby Marshall. Abby has been fascinated by  human movement for as long as she can  remember. She has enjoyed  movement especially in the forms of folk  dance, martial arts,  contemporary dance, yoga, and hiking. This led her  to earning her BSc  in Kinesiology at the University of Alberta. She's  been honoured to  help others improve their health and quality of life  through physical  activity within several populations including emergency  response  occupations, professional and varsity athletes, those with  permanent  disabilities, chronic health conditions, pregnancy, and all  ages. A  member of the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology since 2003, she is  a Certified Exercise Physiologist, a Certified Tobacco Educator, and a  300 hour Certified Yoga Instructor.

Episode 21: Derek Hansen

Alan Selby hosts Sprint Coach Derek Hansen in Episode 21! Derek is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist that has been working with athletes all ages and abilities in speed, strength and power sports since 1988. His coaching career started in Track and Field, providing instruction to sprinters of all ages eventually working with collegiate sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers. His career evolved rapidly working closely with  some of the top performers in the world as a coach and a consultant – including Olympic medalists, world record holders, Canadian National  team athletes, and professional athletes from numerous sports. He worked as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Simon Fraser  University for 14 years, the first non-US member of the NCAA. He also serves as a performance consultant to numerous professional teams in the  NFL, NBA, MLS and NHL, as well as major NCAA Division 1 programs throughout North America, specializing in speed development, strategic  performance planning, return-to-competition protocols and neuromuscular electrical stimulation programming.

Episode 20 - Duncan French

Episode 20 of CSEP Podcast features Dr. Duncan French. Dr. French is globally recognized as a leading expert and has over 20 years of experience working with elite professional and Olympic athletes. Duncan is the vice President of Performance at the UFC Performance Institute (UFCPI), and is responsible for directing performance interfaces to approximately 600 athletes, as well as managing the state of the art high-performance facilities in Las Vegas. He earned his PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Connecticut in 2004 with research interests in the optimization of human performance, neuroendocrine responses to resistance training, strength diagnostics, and the mechanisms of recovery and regeneration.

This episode focuses on combat sport preparation, Dr. French's evidence based approaches to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts and the unique training atmosphere of the UFC Performance Institute.

Kari is the owner and founder of Empower Conditioning, a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a CSEP-CEP, a Technical Level 2 Olympic Lifting Coach and a certified Athletic Therapist. Over her 25 year career, Kari has trained top Olympic and Professional athletes and also worked with chronic pain patients and surgical rehabilitation. She is passionate about making a lasting positive difference in people's lives and is paving the way for more female strength coaches in high performance.

Episode 17: Jeff Osadec

Jeff Osadec, MKin, CSEP-CEP and CSCS joins us for Episode 17! Jeff has coached for the past 15 years working with athletes both development and national level. He holds degrees in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Manitoba and a Masters in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary. Jeff joined the Canadian Sport Institute full time in the fall of 2011 as a strength coach and physiologist. He is certified CSEP-CEP and as a strength and conditioning coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

In this episode, Jeff discusses the development of the CSEP High Performance Specialization™ and what the specialization's Preparation Modules entail. The CSEP High Performance  Specialization™ focuses on performance and occupational testing and  training for qualified exercise professionals working with elite  athletes, emergency services personnel, armed forces, and high performance clients. Virginie is a strength and conditioning coach with Tennis Canada at the National Canadian Tennis Centre in Montreal. Virginie has a Masters degree in Sport Physiology from the University of Montreal and she is currently working with athlete Bianca Andreescu. Virginie is presenting the Exercise Professionals Workshop “The high performance environment for a female fitness coach ” at CSEP 2020.
