Culture Popped with Hunter Bishop

It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Hunter Morpheus Bishop who died in an unfortunate smelting accident. 140 episodes in, he never was able to make it to his own podcast and now he'll never get the chance. Regrettably, he never told us the password to the podcast distribution account so this will be the last episode of Culture Popped. This week we pitch video games based on movies. RIP Hunter.

It's the final episode of our Halloween trilogy and there's nothing spookier than extremely poor descriptions of movies mwhahahaha. We're describing scary movies to each as poorly as possible and trying to guess what they are, loser owes the winner one million favors that they can never decline. Very spooky.

After last week's episode went off the rails we're returning to an old classic. Reading funny Letterboxd reviews and trying to guess the movie it's for. This edition is Halloween themed so it's all scary movies, from Nightmare on Elm Street to The Shining to Space Jam A New Legacy.

In honor of the Super Mario Bros Movie trailer debuting, this week we're going over some movies based on video games that almost got made but were rejected before being completed. Unsurprisingly many of them starred Chris Pratt.

We don't have a new episode for you this week so please enjoy this rerun of that time we had a totally real interview with PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan. 

It's officially autumn which means it's time to put on your turtleneck sweaters, get some hot chocolate and watch some feel good Hallmark movies! In honor of that, we are turning normal movies & reciting their plots as if they were Hallmark movies. What would films like Scarface, Jaws, Spider-Man No Way Home and more be about if they were Hallmark movies? We try our best to give you the answer.

This week there was a Nintendo Direct and a Sony State of Play both on the same day and both with one thing in common. Farms. That's right, both companies held showcases to show off the exciting new games coming out and both were very farm heavy. We're going over all the farming games shown and what we think of the farming genre taking over the gaming industry. Is farming the next battle royale? Maybe.

In a history making episode, we are the first podcast hosts in history to rank our favorite episodes of our own podcast. Unfortunately most of our favorite episodes had to be deleted so you can't listen to them but hearing us talk about how great they were is just as good.

Geoff Keighley blessed us with another one of his terrible gaming events. It was very bad. 

The Batgirl movie was canceled this past week despite being 95% complete. Not only are we giving our thoughts on that but we're also discussing some other movies throughout history that were canceled and we'll never get to see. From Justice League Mortal to My Brother Borat, these are the movies that were going to be made and then weren't.

It's a rerun because we really dislike Jared Leto so we have to remind you all about how much of a menace he is

This week we are joined by special guest and survival game extraordinaire, Nathan "Adventure" Hawkins and together we have some ideas for survival games based off of movies and tv shows. Wouldn't you like a survival game based off Universal Monsters or Stranger Things or Winnie the Pooh, well if not then we're here to convince you.

Big Poppa Phil Spencer gave us one hell of a gaming showcase this past week. With non-stop games, with gameplay, no filler all killer and 99% of them are coming to Xbox GamePass on Day 1. This was such a good showcase that we didn't even have to add in fake games we made up like we did for Summer Game Fest. With new looks at Redfall, Diablo 4 and Starfield, as well as first looks at cool looking titles like Pentiment, The Last Case of Benedict Fox and Minecraft Legends. Jeff with a G Keighley has done it again! He's put on a gaming showcase event that was mostly bad. How does he do it? We wish we knew. Geoff treated the gaming community to a 2 hour slog of announcements we've already seen, to ones that had so little information about them that there wasn't a purpose to showing them. It wasn't all bad of course as we got looks at cool games like The Callisto Protocol, Metal Hellsinger, Devil Dog, Goat Simulator 3 and InsureKKKtion. Find out our lots on everything shown!

The title is pretty self explanatory, we're talking about the best Johnny Depp movies. Or at least the ones we really like. From Pirates of the Caribbean to Chocolat to What's Eating Gilbert Grape to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the man has played a lot of weird characters in a lot of good movies and we like him and we like the movies. Really just listen to the episode, there's no need to read this description.

We're doing the first ever podcast remake and unlike Hollywood, we're doing a remake properly. That's right we re-recorded an old episode from scratch to make it even greater than it was before. It's Mother's Day and we're very sorry for what you're about to listen to. First we have a fun game where we try to guess the Mom movie based on the funny review which is some nice wholesome fun and then we play a game called Mom or Mommy in which we determine whether fictional mothers are a Mom or a Mommy. Last week we came up with stupid ideas for movies based on video games. This week we're doing the reverse. These are the stupidest ideas we can think of for video games based on movies and TV shows. There's plenty of movies and shows that would make perfect video games but these ones would make terrible ones. Forget about your John Wick or Mission Impossible video game, we're here to tell you about a Titanic video game.

Hollywood has a new found love of video games, they're turning every popular game into a movie these days. Well some games just shouldn't be made into movies and we're here to tell you which ones. These might be good video games, they might be bad video games, but that doesn't matter because they would make absolutely terrible, stupid movies. So if you're listening Hollywood, don't make any of these stupid movies no matter how willing Chris Pratt is to star in them.

Jared Leto goes to ridiculous lengths to stay in character when he's filming a movie. His method acting always leads to a bad performance anyway so what is he even doing? Well we don't like him so this episode is dedicated to making fun of all the dumb things Jared Leto has done in the name of method acting. Let's pour one out for all the crew members who unfortunately have to deal with his bullsh*t.

This week saw the release of Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga. By all accounts it's one of the best Lego games of all time. But we haven't played it yet so we can't say. We still have to celebrate though so we're going over some franchises that we think deserve their own Lego video game. There's never been a bad Lego game and there's tons of properties that could make for a great one. How about Lego James Bond or Lego SpongeBob or Lego Barbie or Lego Borderlands or Lego Seinfeld. All have the potential to incredible video games.

It's our 100th episode! We're celebrating in style. By definitively ranking every Tom Cruise movie. That's right, we watched all of them, even the ones where he doesn't run, and we're gonna tell you which are the best and which are the worst films of Tom's career. 

This week Sony held a State of Play that was...okay. There was some cool stuff like Exoprimal, a game where you shoot hordes of dinosaurs, a TMNT game collection and GigaBash but most of it was meh. How meh? Listen and find out just how little we care about any of these games.
