JACQUELINE RANKINS SMITH

Jacqueline starting her Career in Banking in the 1970's as a file clerk. With hard work, education, and a "Village", she was able to obtain her goal of the 1st Black Female in the Bank Management Training Program. She then went on to become the Assistant Branch Manager / Branch Operations Officer. Later she would move to Charlotte, NC as an International Banking Officer, then to Atlanta, GA as a Learning Deployment Generalist through their Training Department.

Jacqueline represents multiple decades of Women in Business. As she stated, "She had to learn to balance life and work to achieve her goals".

Meet five of the Best and Brightest Young Ladies in the Charlotte Area High Schools. They all come from different backgrounds, but are going to Spectacular places.

• Meet Jayla- A young scholar who attends Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology. She balances a full time job while being a full time student and hopes to major in Psychology to become a Therapist in the near future. Please listen as we discover Jayla and who she is striving to become. Please listen as we learn more from this "Shero in the making".

• Meet Ximena-  a Senior at Cato MCHS. She is the SGA Treasurer and a member of 5 clubs. She loves to paint and serve the Community in any way. She plans to attend Appalachian State University and study Psychology with a concentration in Clinical and Abnormal. She aspires to start a reform in Cognitive Therapy that is accessible to all. Please listen as we learn more from this "Shero in the making".

• Meet Melissa- a Junior at Cato MCHS. She is a part of the Scholarship club and Art club at school and volunteers at a nearby elementary school twice a week. She plans to attend Wingate University or UNCC with a major in Biochemistry. In her free time, she loves to paint and loves to do crafting activities. Please listen as we learn more from this "Shero in the making".

• Meet Dieudonna- a Junior at Cato MCHS. She is a part of the Student Government Associate club at school and the multicultural club. As well as volunteers at a nearby elementary school once a week. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte while taking online courses on Coursera to gain more knowledge and skills. In her free time, she loves to read, write, and do makeup! Please listen as we learn more from this "Shero in the making".

• Meet Sade'- A god-fearing young lady that is working full-time, while in high school.  She is most appreciated for her personality. Her plans are to attend Winston Salem State in the fall of 2023 for a Major in Nursing. Please listen as we learn from this young "Shero in the Making".

Ty practices in the areas of business litigation, real estate litigation, appellate practice, estate planning and judgment collection.

In his practice, Ty has represented clients in front of the District and Superior Court of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, the Western and Middle Federal District Courts of North Carolina as well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Ty has also practiced in front of the North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings. He has also received his Bachelors in Psychology from Covenant College in May 2011. In addition to his studies he also played college baseball while attending Covenant College. Ty received his law degree from Charlotte School of Law in May 2015 as a member of the Moot Court Honor Board and Order of the Crown honor society. A.W.Burgess, affectionately called The FAMILY MAN...

HiStory: He is a native of Baltimore, Maryland where he is a 1988 graduate of the elite private McDonogh School. He has attended Oklahoma State, Hampton, & Old Dominion Universities respectfully. With a promising future in collegiate and professional sports, as well as incredibly rare career opportunities on the horizon, he went to prison at the age of 21 at the onset of his senior year of college as a result of domestic violence. After receiving a life-altering treatment in 1992 at the Central State Hospital, a penitentiary psychiatric hospital located in Petersburg, Virginia, he emerged from prison as a permanently disenfranchised convicted felon and a change agent charged to lovingly help domestic violence offenders, bullies & child abusers find the root cause of their violent behavior so they do not harm others, the community they reside, their families and their very own legacy as he once did with his very own life.

A.W. shares his life story with us, not only on Domestic Violence, but on how to get ahead in life as well.
