Ep. 235 - Overcoming Limits As Parents | Jessica Hurlbut and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this new episode with you.

Jessica Hurlbut is a wife, pastor, writer, podcaster, and mom of five—two autistic, two adopted, and one typical teen boy.

She and her husband, Greg, are lead pastors of New Testament Church in Upstate New York, and oversee a network of churches in the North Country.

Jessica and her husband also host a weekly podcast, Full Spectrum Parent, the only faith-based autism parenting podcast.

We all know it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and limited by the demands on your life as a parent.

But what if the limits on your life could be overcome through the power of the Holy Spirit?

Jessica shares stories of her own limited life as a mom of five in her new book Unlimited Motherhood.

Jessica Hurlbut ignites hope in the hearts of overwhelmed moms to believe that God has more.

Revealing 12 limits that hinder mothers--very real things like exhaustion, distractions, and disillusionment--Jessica empowers you to respond in obedience rather than react in emotions.

No matter your circumstances, God sees you, knows you, and has more for your life--even amid the crazy season of parenthood.

You can check out her story on her website in the show notes below. You can also order her book in the links on the show notes or below.

Ep. 234 - Parenting Pep Talk - Parenting With Positive Discipline | Bryan Ward

Ep. 234 - Parenting Pep Talk - Parenting With Positive Discipline | Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this new episode of Parenting Pep Talk!

I want to dive into the concept of positive discipline and how it can benefit both parents and children.

As parents, we strive to raise confident, compassionate, and well-behaved children.

But sometimes, traditional discipline methods can leave us feeling frustrated, disconnected, and unsure if we're truly helping our children grow.

That's where positive discipline comes in and in this episode I dive into some basic principles you can incorporate into your parenting journey to help with positive discipline.

Positive discipline is a transformative approach to parenting that focuses on teaching rather than punishing.

It empowers children by fostering self-discipline, problem-solving skills, and healthy relationships.

This method involves setting clear expectations, using consistent consequences, and effective communication.

By allowing children to experience the natural or logical consequences of their actions, they learn responsibility and gain valuable life skills.

Positive discipline strikes a balance between setting boundaries and allowing children to grow and learn.

It is a journey of personal growth for both parents and children, creating strong connections and emotional intelligence.

Thank you for joining me today, and remember, embracing positive discipline can truly transform our parenting journey.

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this new episode of Parenting Pep Talk!

Today, I want to talk to you about an important topic that we sometimes overlook – teaching accountability to our kids.

It's not always easy, but it's incredibly important, especially when it comes to our kids.

Let me explain why.

Our kids look up to us, and they learn from our behavior more than we realize.

When we own our mistakes, we teach them a valuable lesson about accountability and integrity.

By admitting our mistakes, we show our children that it's okay to make them too.

We create an environment where they feel safe to take risks, learn, and grow.

Owning our mistakes also helps build trust and strong relationships with our kids.

They see that we're not perfect, but we're willing to learn and improve.

So, how can we effectively own our mistakes and set a positive example for our children? Here are a few tips:

1. Acknowledge the mistake: Be honest with yourself and your child about what went wrong. Admitting our faults is the first step towards growth.

2. Learn from it: Discuss with your child what you've learned from the mistake and how you plan to avoid it in the future. This demonstrates the importance of learning from our failures.

3. Move forward: Show your child that mistakes don't define us. Emphasize the importance of resilience and perseverance in overcoming challenges.

When our children witness us owning our mistakes, it empowers them to do the same.

They learn that making mistakes is a natural part of life and that it's okay to ask for forgiveness.

It also strengthens the bond between parent and child, creating an open and honest relationship based on trust and understanding.

So, let's remember, fellow parents, that owning our mistakes is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength.

By showing our children that it's okay to be imperfect, we equip them with the tools they need to navigate through life's challenges.

Own your mistakes, be a role model, and watch your children thrive.

Ep. 230 - Parenting Pep Talk: Positive Reinforcement | Bryan Ward

Ep. 230 - Parenting Pep Talk: Positive Reinforcement | Bryan Ward

Today, we will be discussing a topic that is both easy to understand and implement in everyday parenting: the power of positive reinforcement.

Positive reinforcement is a simple yet effective technique that can have a significant impact on your child's behavior and overall development.

Join me as I explore how this approach can make parenting a little bit easier and more enjoyable.

Segment 1: Understanding Positive Reinforcement

- Definition: Positive reinforcement involves acknowledging and rewarding desirable behaviors to encourage their repetition.

- How it works: By focusing on the positive, parents can create a nurturing environment that enhances their child's motivation, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

- Examples of positive reinforcement: Verbal praise, hugs, high-fives, small rewards, and privileges can all serve as effective forms of positive reinforcement.

Segment 2: Benefits of Positive Reinforcement

- Building a strong parent-child bond: Positive reinforcement helps foster a positive connection between parents and children, creating a foundation of trust and open communication.

- Encouraging desired behaviors: By acknowledging and rewarding positive behaviors, parents can motivate their children to continue exhibiting those behaviors.

- Boosting self-esteem and confidence: Positive reinforcement helps children develop a positive self-image and belief in their abilities, leading to increased confidence and resilience.

Segment 3: Practical Tips for Implementing Positive Reinforcement

- Be specific and timely: Offer specific praise and rewards immediately after your child displays the desired behavior.

- Consistency is key: Maintain a consistent approach to positive reinforcement to establish clear expectations and help your child understand what behaviors are valued.

- Use a variety of rewards: Tailor rewards to your child's interests and preferences, considering both tangible rewards (stickers, small treats) and intangible rewards (extra playtime, a special activity).

Segment 4: Overcoming Challenges and Potential Pitfalls

- Avoid over-rewarding: Balance is crucial to prevent children from becoming overly reliant on external rewards and losing intrinsic motivation.

- Addressing unwanted behaviors: Focus on redirecting and teaching alternative behaviors rather than solely using punishment or negative reinforcement.

- Adjusting strategies as your child grows: As your child matures, their motivations and interests may change. Adapt your positive reinforcement techniques accordingly.

Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool that can transform the parenting experience.

By focusing on the positive, acknowledging and rewarding desired behaviors, we can create an environment that fosters growth, confidence, and a strong parent-child bond.

Remember, parenting is a journey, and incorporating positive reinforcement can make that journey a little easier and more rewarding for both you and your child.

Thanks for tuning in to today's episode, and we look forward to sharing more valuable insights with you in our future episodes.

Meet Johnny Ice, from 95.5 KLOS is a New Yorker with a sharp wit and a penchant for sarcasm.

For over two decades, he's been lighting up the radio waves with his unforgettable antics and on-air stunts.

Best known for his stint on The Heidi and Frank Show on 95.5 KLOS in Los Angeles since 2010, Johnny's dyslexia adds an extra layer of charm as he tackles reading the news.

At home, Johnny's life resembles a sitcom, with his dad-joke persona firmly in place, even before his two young kids arrived.

Despite his wife's Pinterest-inspired projects, he's a devoted husband and a regular at the local hardware store, where he's earned the nickname "MacGyver" for his knack for turning random objects into inventions in his garage.

Described by friends as loyal and light-hearted, Johnny's always ready with questionable advice and a knack for bringing the party.

With a wide range of interests, from gaming to sports, especially NFL and fantasy football, he's also an avid fan of new technology.

And while he's no hoarder, Johnny prefers to think of himself as a "collector" or "treasure hunter," scouring garage sales and thrift shops for hidden gems to flip.

Ep. 224 | Parenting Pep Talk: Setting Boundaries On Social Media | Bryan Ward

Ep. 224 | Parenting Pep Talk: Setting Boundaries On Social Media | Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this new series with you!

Parenting Pep Talk:
Setting Boundaries on Social Media

In our modern digital age, the allure and influence of social media on our children cannot be understated.

As parents and guardians, it is our responsibility to guide and protect our children in this vast online landscape.

Today, I want to talk about the importance of setting boundaries for our kids on social media.

First and foremost, we must recognize that social media platforms can be both a blessing and a curse for our children.

While they offer opportunities for connection, learning, and self-expression, they also expose our kids to potential risks such as cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and loss of privacy.

Setting boundaries on social media is not about restricting our children's freedom, but rather about empowering them to navigate this digital world safely and responsibly.

It's about teaching them the importance of digital citizenship and online etiquette.

So, what do these boundaries look like?

They may include:
* Age-appropriate usage: Ensuring that our children are old enough and mature enough to handle the responsibilities that come with using social media.
* Limiting screen time: Establishing reasonable limits on the amount of time our children spend on social media each day to prevent overexposure and addiction.
* Monitoring activity: Keeping an eye on our children's social media accounts and conversations to protect them from potential dangers and intervene when necessary.
* Educating about privacy: Teaching our children the importance of safeguarding their personal information and privacy online, including being cautious about who they connect with and what they share.
* Encouraging open communication: Creating a safe and non-judgmental environment where our children feel comfortable discussing their experiences, concerns, and questions about social media.

By setting and enforcing these boundaries, we can help our children develop healthy digital habits, protect them from harm, and empower them to make informed decisions online.

In conclusion, as parents, it is our responsibility to guide and protect our children in the digital age.

By setting boundaries for our kids on social media, we can help them navigate this complex online world safely and responsibly.

Ep. 221 - Triumph Over Adversity | Jason Wood and Bryan Ward

Ep. 221 - Triumph Over Adversity | Jason Wood and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this amazing guest with you.

My guest today is Jason Wood. He’s a dad, combat vet and endurance athlete.

Jason Wood's incredible fitness journey is nothing short of a remarkable adventure that unfolded after his graduation from college in 2004.

Fueled by a sense of duty and patriotism, Jason joined the U.S. Army as an officer, dedicating seven years to active duty and undergoing three intense combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

This period taught him invaluable lessons in discipline, resilience, and the importance of pushing one's limits.

In 2011, Jason transitioned to a career as a Department of Defense contractor, marking a turning point in his life.

It was during this period that he discovered a profound passion for endurance challenges, using them as a vehicle for personal growth and transformation.

One defining moment in Jason's fitness journey was his completion of a staggering 101-mile run in just 36 hours while wearing a 20-pound tactical weight vest.

Undeterred by the magnitude of his accomplishments, Jason set an even more daunting goal, running an astounding 150 miles in 48 hours on a treadmill.

Jason's pursuit of challenges continues with his upcoming attempt to break the Guinness World Record for solo tire flipping—a 100kg (220lb) tire for 24 consecutive hours.

As a father to a 9-year-old daughter, Jason's journey transcends personal achievement.

His successful summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2021 inspired his daughter to embark on her own mountain-climbing adventure at just 7 years old, demonstrating the impact of leading by example.

Jason couldn't have been prouder of his daughter for approaching the challenge with such enthusiasm.

Jason's dedication to being a strong father goes beyond the physical accomplishments; it extends into the realm of teaching life lessons about perseverance, setting goals, and the importance of giving back.

His daughter witnesses firsthand that a strong foundation built on discipline and determination can lead to personal growth and the ability to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Behind these triumphs lies a more profound story of resilience. Jason has faced personal struggles, including alcoholism, suicidal thoughts, and the weight of PTSD, depression, and anxiety from his military experiences. The outdoors and fitness became his sanctuary, offering a lifeline to mental stability and recovery.

Jason's journey reflects not only the boundless potential of the human spirit but also the profound healing power of the outdoors and physical fitness. His battles with alcoholism and PTSD found solace in the discipline and structure of his fitness regimen. The endorphins released during intense workouts became a powerful antidote to the darkness of depression and anxiety, allowing him to regain control of his mental health.

Jason's mission extends beyond personal triumph.

Through his journey, he seeks to inspire others to overcome their own battles and embrace a brighter future.

Make sure you check out Jason Wood’s links below or in show notes.

Ep. 220 - Save The Family | Mike Cargile and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this amazing guest with you.

My guest today is Mike Cargile. He’s not only a family man, but he’s also running for Congress.

Mike’s objective, and overwhelming motivation in his political pursuit, is protecting, preserving and providing for our families.

As a husband and a father with many good friends, Mike feels truly blessed to have the opportunity to be a Representative for some of the most wonderful people he has ever met.

Through the years Mike has been a coach, a crossing guard for his kids, a Booster President, Ways and Means Chairman and a deacon at his church.

Professionally, he has been a writer, an actor, a director, a producer, an editor and a marketing director.

Additionally, Mike helped run a small indie music label and managed a rock band from Australia and somewhere in the middle of all that, he helped handle the private label manufacturing for The Power Rangers food products.

Prior to his move to California in 1991, he had a short stint as a Quartermaster Army Officer and then went Individual Ready Reserve after Desert Storm.

His family has a long history with the US Army and he thought it would be exciting to try something new…Hollywood.

Mike was not disappointed. He understood that to whom much is given, much is required.

And from that realization is born his desire to serve the people and businesses of the 35th Congressional District of California.

However, this is not about Mike, it’s about YOU…the people!

At a time of unprecedented assault on our freedoms, our traditions and our Constitution, we need representatives willing to stand in the gap on behalf of the American people.

Our citizens deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and unwavering support. Mike plans on doing just that!

Ep. 216 - Geared For Life As A Parent | Bryce Kenny and Bryan Ward

Ep. 216 - Geared For Life As A Parent | Bryce Kenny and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this amazing guest with you.

Growing up, Bryce Kenny’s passion was in Top Fuel dragracing, traveling the country with his grandfather competing in a race car capable of 300mph in just 4 seconds!

Those miles traveled in the rig with his grandfather, Doc Sipple, would prove to be the mentorship that would equip Bryce with the passion and skill sets to fulfill his purpose – to use the platform of motorsports to change people’s lives.

Bryce believes that while there are no secret formulas to life, there are gears that we must learn to shift in and out of at the right time.

These gears are our foundational beliefs that guide the actions we take towards living the life we’ve always dreamed of.

Gears like being driven by purpose, failing faster, and becoming built for others all require a decision in the midst of life’s toughest challenges to make that shift in order to get unstuck, find momentum, and start thriving again.

Life requires us to shift gears constantly, and Bryce is passionate about helping others find that next gear they never knew they had.

Bryce is now a Professional Monster Jam driver as the Great Clips Mohawk Warrior, setting a Guinness World Record for the fastest speed in a monster truck in 2021 and being the first driver in the sport’s history to hit 100mph.

Getting his start in 2016, Kenny recorded his first Freestyle win in his first year.

Kenny earned the 2019 Save of the Year and 2021 Outreach Award.

The driver of the Great Clips Mohawk Warrior has also played a role in Monster Jam TV coverage.

His ability to represent brands and strategic partners like Great Clips, build family-friendly fan bases, and attain coveted awards in the sport makes Bryce a bright star in Monster Jam!

Make sure you check out Bryce’s links below to see what he is up too.

Ep. 215 - Big League Perspective On Fatherhood | Ryan Lavarnway and Bryan Ward

Ep. 215 - Big League Perspective On Fatherhood | Ryan Lavarnway and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this amazing guest with you.

Ryan Lavarnway is much more than just a former MLB championship baseball player. Today, his identity is husband and father.

Ryan and his wife Jamie recently had a daughter, Blake. In their free time they enjoy family time together, traveling, trying new restaurants and getting involved in their local community.

Ryan Lavarnway is a retired professional baseball player. He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 6th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft as a catcher.

Since making his Major League Baseball debut on August 18, 2011, Ryan has played in parts of 10 Major League Baseball seasons.

Ryan has also been a member of the Israeli national baseball team at multiple points in his career. Ryan first played for Team Israel in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, and was named Pool A MVP, after hitting .555 with a home run, 3 RBIs and 4 walks.

Not only is Ryan a 2013 World Series Champion, but he is the first Cincinnati Reds player ever to have more than three RBI in a team debut.

He also led all of college baseball in batting average (.467) and slugging percentage (.873) in 2007.

In college, Ryan set the Yale baseball single-season records in batting average (.467), slugging percentage (.873), home runs (14) and runs batted in (55) and set the Ivy League record with 33 home runs during his time at Yale.

In this episode, Ryan shares his reasoning for leaving the sport game he grew up playing so that he can devote his time being the husband and father he knew he needed to be.

Make sure you check out Ryan’s links below to see what he is up too.

Ep. 214 - Unveiling Manhood: Conversations On Masculinity | Ryan Michler and Bryan Ward

Ep. 214 - Unveiling Manhood: Conversations On Masculinity | Ryan Michler and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this amazing guest with you.

Most of Ryan Michler’s childhood was spent without a permanent father figure.

He never learned how to work on his car. He never had the chance to roughhouse with his dad. He didn’t even learn how to throw a baseball correctly until he was a freshman in high school.

Looking back on it now, Ryan wonders how his life would have been different if he had a permanent male influence in his life.

What would the world look like if there were more men in it?

Ryan’s not talking about males. He is talking about MEN (there is a difference).

Now that he has sons of his own, he is committed to being the dad that he never had.

Ryan and his sons do all kinds of great things together – sports (he coach’s ALL their teams), build tree houses, and roughhouse ’til they are exhausted.

As he talks with other men, he can see that there is a huge need for learning how to be a better father.

But Ryan also sees a need for strong and honorable men outside of the home.

Guys, we’re losing the meaning of manhood. We’ve gone away from being strong, rugged, independent, and tough to a collection of wimpy, dependent, whiners. Something has got to be done!

And that is why Ryan started Order of Man.

Ryan shows through practical principles what it means to be a man and return to our roots of masculinity.

In this episode, we speak to the role of a man and father in the household and what is means to take back our masculinity.

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share this amazing guest with you.

Doc Compton also known as the Man of the People and the author of “Turning Robocalls Into Cash” was proud to have spent over 20 years being recognized as one of the nation's foremost authorities on credit repair and credit restoration.

Since his departure from the retail consumer credit and credit repair spaces, wherein he helped thousands of people regain control of their financial futures by correcting or deleting inaccurate and incomplete information from their credit reports with each of the major credit bureaus, Doc shifted his focus to his true passions, consumer advocacy and consumer protection services.

Doc’s most recent project has centered around stopping the annoying, illegal robocalls that many of us get to our phones.

As a part of his “Turning Robocalls Into Cash” project, he appeared on hundreds of television and radio programs, and in dozens of online and print media stories around the country.

Ep. 211 - A Purpose Worth Fighting For | Billy Huard and Bryan Ward

Ep. 211 - A Purpose Worth Fighting For | Billy Huard and Bryan Ward

You might know Billy Huard as the guy who spent 7 years throwing down on the ice in the NHL, or as the corporate guy who spent over 23 years in the business world.

Today, he is on a mission to help you find your own purpose worth fighting for.

As a coach and author, here to spread the message that no matter how tough life gets…

From the heights of the NHL to the depths of alcoholism and back, Billy Huard has survived highs and lows that many people don’t.

And for that, he is eternally grateful.
To be honest, it’s been a wild ride.

Let me explain…

Playing professional hockey was a dream come true, and Billy was able to achieve incredible things during his years on the ice.

Billy’s career began in a tiny town in Ontario, Canada, where he first laced up his skates at the age of 5.

From that moment on, he was hooked.

Eventually, he found himself playing for amazing teams, like the Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings – living out his dream in the NHL.

Billy became known for his fighting skills on the ice as an enforcer.

He has fought the toughest players of his time and had one of the highest winning percentages in the heavyweight class in that era.

And while it was all part of the game he dedicated his life to it!

It wasn’t smooth sailing.

The truth was, Billy wasn’t wired to be violent at all. It wasn’t his nature.

But hi wanted to keep playing in the NHL, so he fought and fought on the ice until he barely recognized myself anymore.

Living life as someone he wasn’t took an incredible toll on Billy.

Off the ice, he faced his own demons.

Alcoholism, depression, anxiety – they were like opponents he couldn’t fight with his fists.

The years of hard hits and head injuries took a major toll, too on his body, brain, relationships, and life in general. He truly feels he is lucky to have made it out alive.

After retiring from hockey, Billy had to find his identity outside of professional sports.

It was one of the biggest challenges of his life. He eventually jumped into the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds and learned a lot about the ups and downs of business.

But his demons still followed him around until hit rock bottom.

After that, Billy decided to get serious about his life mental health and kick the negative habits that lingered for too long in his life, like alcoholism.

It’s been a long road, full of triumphs and struggles, but he came out of it thriving.

Now, Billy is all about spreading the message of hope and helping people confront the darkness and live a life of purpose.

Through Billy’s coaching and writing, he is omnipotent you to never give up on yourself, no matter what challenges you face.

Maybe you set out to do something in life that got twisted and tattered in, too.

Maybe you chased down a dream and you’re not as fulfilled as you expected to be.

Maybe you turned into someone you never wanted to be…

If any of that is ringing true, you’re in exactly the right place.

Billy is on a mission to help you find a purpose worth fighting for.

A life worth fighting for. Because rediscovering who you truly are and why you’re here is what brings everything back into the light.

He is here to show that with acceptance, perseverance, and unyielding determination, anything is possible. Billy is a walking, talking example of it.

So join Billy on this journey, and tackle life together!

Ep. 209 - Unlock Your Parenting Potential | Jeff Lerner and Bryan Ward

Ep. 209 - Unlock Your Parenting Potential | Jeff Lerner and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share these amazing guests with you.

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share these amazing guests with you.

My guest today is Jeff Lerner. His mission is to help people unlock their full potential and design their dream life.

He has been shaped by his choices and regrets none of them. At 16, he chose to get himself fired from the only job he ever had.

At 17, he chose to drop out of high school and become a musician.

At 18, he chose to start his first business and also made the choices that led to its failure.

In his 20s, he chose to start 10 more businesses after that first failure and fail at them too.

And he chose to keep going still, ultimately founding multiple successful companies and generating over $100 million in sales.

In his 30s, he also chose to go to therapy, start working on himself, and become the husband/father/man he was born to be.

At 39, instead of retiring he chose to commit his life to helping others and developed “the 3X3 Success Matrix”, a complete life operating system for entrepreneurs.

That in turn became the foundation for ENTRE, the world’s first “Entrepreneurial Life Design” platform and one of the fastest growing education companies in the world with over 200,000 students in its first 3 years.

All Jeff’s life he has chosen to disregard the advice of the people who wanted him to play it safe because they loved him.

Instead, Jeff chose to believe he was created for a life less ordinary and followed his heart.

He believes every person on earth has that same choice to make – each of us can choose to unlock our full potential by believing in and developing ourselves.

Jeff has devoted the 2nd half of his life to evangelizing that choice and teaching a system to help people see it through.

Make sure you check out Jeff’s links below.

Ep. 207 - Story Of The Addict, REBORN! | Joe Nester and Bryan Ward

Ep. 207 - Story Of The Addict, REBORN! | Joe Nester and Bryan Ward

Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share these amazing guests with you.

If you met Joe Nester back in 2012, you would have met a lost soul battered, bruised and homeless all because of the affliction of crack and heroin.

Joe Nester had a loving father that wanted to make sure Joe had all that he needed in life.

He grew up in a great neighborhood, had many friends, was a gifted all-state baseball pitcher, graduated from high school with honors, he was a gifted skateboarder with professional sponsors and a gifted musician playing music with a small band with some buddies.

But, that quickly faded once satan introduced crack into Joe’s world. Joe spiraled down very fast.

He soon found himself out a job, stealing from stores to get his next fix and living under bridges to stay warm.

What he thought was going to be a temporary summer phase, ended up being 10 YEARS! But, it wasn’t until a couple of awakening moments within his world that a shift happened!

If you have any doubts in the power of our Lord, then just sit back and listen to Joe’s powerful testimony. Joe has been REBORN. No joke!

Joe found recovery with the help of some friends and of course his new found relationship with the Lord.

Always having a passion for music and now a sober look on life, he put pen to paper and notes into a guitar to share his life’s experiences through his music.

Joe Nester's music serves as a testament to the enduring power of song to heal, inspire, and connect.

With each new composition, he continues to touch the hearts of his listeners and solidify his place as a respected singer-songwriter in the music industry.

In this episode Joe speaks the truth of his life. He is not ashamed to share it because his message is clear….to send HOPE to those out that that may be stuck.

His music is inspiring and definitely spiritual. With a wide mix of genre within his music, you will definitely feel alive just in the words he speaks in his songs.

These songs represent his life. They represent real struggle, but also represent TRUTH with the help of Jesus.

Please make sure you check out Joe’s music and be sure to follow him.

Joe Nester is an incredible human being with a great gift and I can promise you, you won’t be disappointed in his music or his testimony.

Ep. 189 - It’s Not About You! | David James and Bryan Ward

Over the last 30+ plus years David has built quite a successful life by most measures. He is a Husband, Father, and a semi-retired Sr. Network Engineer. Getting into computers at a relatively young age he had a solid career! He bought his first house at 24 years old and his second at 27. However, this was all in spite of the know-it-all rebellious nature, massive lack of discipline, & substance abuse issues you might expect from a Gen X'er that grew up in the East Bay, California in the 90's. His addiction to escaping reality & experimenting with drugs started around 13-14 years old which took James through high school, rehab, jail, and a meth problem by the time he was 18.  The last time he touched that stuff was in a County County jail in 1995 but that is only where the rest of his story begins. David has quite the story and he shares all of it and more in this amazing interview. Dad Up! Born to two loving parents who dealt with their own demons of mental illness and addiction, Justin’s childhood was riddled with poverty, dysfunction, and domestic abuse.

Statistically speaking, Justin and his younger brother, Tommy, most likely should have followed in their parents' footsteps.

However, despite their own personal short falls, Justin’s parents instilled positive attributes through support and high expectations that led Justin to success.

Justin was the first member from his dad’s side of the family to graduate from college and has since earned two masters degrees.

For the past 13 years, Justin has served as a teacher and coach for multiple sports.

Currently, Justin has recently transitioned careers and works for Edward Jones as a financial advisor in training.

Over the past 6 months, Justin has been working part-time for Streamline Books, a hybrid publishing company that helps others tell their stories.

Working for Streamline, Justin found his way on to LinkedIn and has enjoyed sharing his own stories by creating content and posting on LinkedIn.

Justin is married to his wife Kyndra and has a two year old son named Whit and a newborn girl named Gentry. They reside in Kansas City, Missouri.
