Productive (Lego) Blocks of Time with Jon Hilton

Productive (Lego) Blocks of Time with Jon Hilton

He's a software developer at a purpose-driven software house who also blogs and creates books and courses, while (or in his case "whilst") he and his wife raise their two young children. So how does Jon Hilton of Shropshire, UK, do it all and how has the Corona lockdown impacted his routines?
In order to achieve his mission -- helping his fellow developers be more productive in taking ideas and turning them into working software – Jon has learned to manage time in chunks (heard of the Pomodoro method?), to get realistic about Corona home schooling (including cleaning the cocoa, flour and water asteroid aftermath from all over the kitchen), and to use the current constraints to his advantage.
Jon invites us all to ignore the social media feeds modeling artificial perfection, be kinder to ourselves and find the fun in it all.
These sound like Jolly Good ideas to me!

CYBEReady to work securely from home? Cyber Security practical tips from Roi Cohen, VP Sales and Co-Founder, Vicarius

CYBEReady to work securely from home? Cyber Security practical tips from Roi Cohen, VP Sales and Co-Founder, Vicarius

If there's one thing none of us can imagine how we'd manage these challenging times without – it's internet connectivity. All our personal and professional exchanges of information are being disseminated from our personal keyboards to specific addressees. Right? Or are they?
You don't have to be a multi-national corporation not to want your information accessed by a stranger. We all hear the buzz about cyber-security, but what does it imply, practically, for each of us?
Luckily for us, we get to learn all about it from Roi Cohen, Co-Founder and VP Sales of Vicarius, headquartered in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and New York, a cyber security company helping small and medium businesses protect all their vulnerable applications from the cyber threats they don't even know about yet, which recently raised a round of 5 Million dollars.
Why do the best secure access procedures combine something you know with something you have and better still -- something you are? Why should you keep your operating system as well as your applications and browsers updated? How is a Virtual Private Network like a tunnel? And what should you be very mindful of on your next video call (beyond hiding the mess)? Roi's got the answers!

Find Your Mindfulness Muscle. Use it. Repeat. with Jen Emswiler, Founder & CEO of Thought Leader

Find Your Mindfulness Muscle. Use it. Repeat. with Jen Emswiler, Founder & CEO of Thought Leader

The fact that we think over 50 thousand thoughts a day is enough to stress us out, even without extenuating circumstances like Corona. And it may sound counter intuitive at first, but it's actually very helpful to learn how to be in the moment rather than constantly second guessing what's already over and done with or worrying about a future that might turn out entirely differently than what we're imagining anyway. And how can we learn to be in the moment? That's precisely why I'm thrilled to host Jen Emswiler, Founder & CEO of Thought Leader: a business on a mission to bring mindfulness to all, through virtual, live mindfulness and coaching sessions for teams and individuals. Jen discovered mindfulness after she was in an accident ten years ago, seeking ways to deal with her chronic pain. She found it so beneficial she began to implement it into her work with clients as a social worker, helping individuals and families facing profound challenges. Mindfulness continued to serve as one of Jen's top go-to tools as a business consultant and technical project manager, using it to increase focus, creativity and empathy. Been hearing the buzz about mindfulness and wondering what exactly it is and whether it's for you? Jen walks us through a simple mindfulness exercise you can do in just 30 seconds, teaches us practical tips for navigating working from home during times of change and uncertainty, and shows us how we can incorporate mindfulness throughout our day in ways that support both self care and connection with others.

Queen of LinkedIn: Proactive Professional Networking with Karni HR founder, Idit Karni

Probably one of the only people I know who can make me seem shy or introverted in comparison, my dear, force of nature friend Idit Karni is here to change how you think about your online professional presence and network.
Idit, founder of "Karni HR", is a career coach and organizational consultant, who works with both parties to the employment relationship: employers, managers and recruiters on one side, personal branding clients, small business owners and job seekers on the other.
Across industries, fields and positions, she sees and understands the interests and needs of both sides, giving her a unique "bilingual" perspective – not only Hebrew and English, she speaks "employer-ese" and "employee-ese" as well....
With almost 15 thousand contacts on LinkedIn, Idit is certain that it’s the ultimate professional networking platform; that polishing your online presence is more important now than ever before; and that it's actually all about the people you don't know.
What did Cameron Crowe nail with his brilliant "you had me at hello" in his 1996 film hit "Jerry Maguire" and what does it have to do with what you should include in your CV these days? I think I'll let Idit tell you…

Pharma Entrepreneurship from...their Farm! with Mindful Nutrients founder, CEO (and everything else) Susie McLachlan

Pharma Entrepreneurship from...their Farm! with Mindful Nutrients founder, CEO (and everything else) Susie McLachlan

You'll have to pardon me if I exceed the legal limit of "that's incredible!" per episode on this one, because my guest Susie McLachlan completely astounded me. Susie and her husband are raising two gorgeous children – which she's homeschooling, by the way - on their Australian farm, located hours away from major cities. So her baseline "remoteliness" is at a whole new level.
Through her love of learning and research, passion to making a real difference in the world and her trademark persistence, Susie has become an entirely self-made entrepreneur, founding Mindful Nutrients, a company producing an evidence based micronutrient blend to help people struggling with low mood and anxiety as well as kids with ADHD and coping with Autism Spectrum Disorder. If it weren't for the Corona outbreak, she'd be at Harvard/MIT healthcare Innovators Program to which she's been admitted.
Oh, and PS? She's done it all single handedly. Literally. Cause she was born with one hand and that may have been one of the defining factors instilling in her the courage and determination that she could find the ways to do the things that are important to her.
Susie shares with us how Seth Godin's Akimbo workshops equipped her with the skill sets and social support that made all the difference, why she chose her particular line of business and how remoteness can actually be quite beneficial.

All the answers from KellyAnn Romanych, Deputy Executive Director of Veterans Legal Institute, a non profit niche public interest law firm, exclusively serving veterans who are homeless, disabled or at risk of being homeless, in the Southern Claifornia area, by offering free legal services.

Pull Up a Chair: Great Sitting Posture to Remain Free of Back Pain with Allison Wilmes

Pull Up a Chair: Great Sitting Posture to Remain Free of Back Pain with Allison Wilmes

You're going to want to pull up a chair for this one. Or better yet, get up from your chair, and sit back down properly. And then be sure to get up and move around. And repeat. Again and again throughout your day.
Most of us didn’t design our homes to be work spaces. And that means the chairs and other furniture we’re using now, may not have the best support to protect our backs.
With everything else we’re trying to adjust to right now, back pain shouldn’t be one on them.
As in so many areas in our lives – the best cure - is prevention.
How can we prevent sitting posture related back pain?
Let's ask Allison Wilmes (WIL-miss), a holistic movement therapist who's been getting people out of back pain for the past 16 years. She works with people, in person and remotely, to achieve their individual goals with small, gentle movements and by harnessing the power of the brain to stay positive and motivated.
Let's see how much of Allison's expert advice we can absorb in one brief sitting.

VP Professionalism, Video Conference Calls, with Laura Gilinski

Got 10 hours of video calls ahead?
Don't sweat it. Be sure to blow dry your hair, dress professionally – at least from the waist up - and try to space out the next batch of calls much more.
Take it from my dear friend Laura Gilinski, VP of Philanthropic Partnerships at Start-Up Nation Central, who manages people, projects and strategies like nobody's business.
Laura shares her pro tips for remote working, including appointing someone to summarize, prompt follow up after video calls, and assessing how ripe your relationship is with a donor or investor before you consider making an ask over the phone.
Enjoy this upbeat conversation with Laura, who encourages us with her wisdom and optimism that we're gonna make it and in the mean time we can keep getting great work done if we're creative and willing to adapt.
