The road Guthrie traveled wasn't always easy — he once slept in his car for a week for an unpaid internship. Even though Syracuse lost Megan Carney and Emily Hawryschuk halfway through the 2021 season, it still went to the national championship.This season, Kayla Treanor returns to her alma matter with those same championship aspirations. While the Orange lost sophomore standout Emma Ward for the season, they are returning much of their 2021 talent.Carney and Hawryschuk are both coming back from their injuries, while All-Americans Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell are returning as well.

Syracuse ended its 2021 season following a first round loss to Georgetown. The 10-goal loss extended the Orange's championship drought to 13 years, the longest stretch of time between national championships for SU since the NCAA Tournament was established. Following the season, head coach John Desko announced his retirement after 46 years of being involved with Syracuse men's lacrosse. The retirement led SU to turn to a program legend in Gary Gait to take the helm.
