Music Talk 070 - Interviewing R&S Records founder Renaat Vandepapeliere

Music Talk 070 - Interviewing R&S Records founder Renaat Vandepapeliere

R&S Records founder Renaat Vandepapeliere discusses 40 Years of the label. R&S Records is a label which has over three decades established a reputation for forward-thinking electronica – as their “In Order To Dance” motto implies Responsible for some of the most iconic techno, ambient and electronica releases over its expansive history. While the label’s iconic prancing horse emblem might bring up associations with raving in the ’90s and beyond, for Renaat and Sabine Maes – the ‘S’ in R&S and Renaat’s partner both in business and in life – the concept behind the label has never quite been that concrete. Through R&S, Renaat and Sabine have created a sense of real sense of community over the years, and their resolve to always support the artist and their art has remained steadfast, even in the face of trying times. Today, the label is as strong as the iconic stallion that bears its name and is truly at the forefront of what’s to come in music. R&S artists continue to be supported and championed in ways that no other label can match, and the old-school attitude that R&S is just a techno label is being obliterated by the realization that R&S is the future of music. Renaat gave a masterclass on navigating the industry for 40 years, running a successful record label, mental health of accusations made at him and the label and how to continue fighting on and more! If you want to release on the biggest labels and DJ for the biggest brands, this podcast will give you a wealth of insights into how to do just that!

Music Talk 065 - Interviewing Todd Terry & Steve Mac

Music Talk 065 - Interviewing Todd Terry & Steve Mac

I’m excited today, as we welcome as we have a double header of guests! Firstly we have Grammy Award-nominated DJ/Producer Todd Terry has been engulfed in dance music since he first started listening to European dance music records while growing up in Brooklyn. In the mid 90’s, the Ministry of Sound’s eponymous UK label released A Day In The Life, a collection of Todd Terry tracks that had been causing dance floor panic. That then led the way to a deal with Mercury Records allowing him to set up a context in which to work with his favourite singers and performers. The first release, Keep On Jumpin’ on featured a vocal workout from super-divas Martha Wash and Jocelyn Brown, together for the first time ever. The song became a top 10 UK crossover pop hit and a worldwide smash. Secondly, my good friend Mr Steve Mac, is an English house music producer and DJ who is half of Rhythm Masters but also had a few alias including These Machines and under his own name. And it's as Rhythm Masters when I first learnt about Steve remixed Keep On Jumpin’ - which to this is one of my favourite all time remixes and one of the first records i ever brought. I then became friends with Steve whilst working at Turnmills and Rhythm Masters and Steve have been part of Data Transmission birthday celebrations across 8th, 9th, 10th, and now in our 15th month… Flash forward a quarter of a century and last month, Todd’s freeze records released a mighty mash-up of two Todd’s classics, ‘Jumpin’ and ‘Keep On Jumpin’, courtesy of Steve Mac, who has been tearing up dance floors with this potent secret weapon. If you want to release on the biggest labels and DJ for the biggest brands, this podcast will give you a wealth of insights into how to do just that!

Maxinne chats about releasing her 'Red Alert' Album with Toolroom Records Toolroom’s leading Lady Maxinne is set to return to the label with her long-awaited and much anticipated debut studio album, ‘Red Alert’. Following on from her hugely successful collaboration with Lauren L’aimant – ‘Tell Me Something’ which dropped in March earlier this year, the record has hit over 2M streams on Spotify alone so far, being added to over 100 Spotify playlists whilst maintaining a reach of over 9.6M people in total. An incredible start to the year for Maxinne and a long time in the making, as with the release of ‘Tell Me Something’ this was the first taste of her emotive musical direction and sound which is evident throughout ‘Red Alert’. Collaborating with other artists, producers and singers who she has built great relationships with over the years, the album enlists some amazing vocalists such as Lauren L’aimant, Moya, Hayla, Cami Jones, Marck Jamz, Flipside and DJ Rae who make appearances throughout the album. There are also some high-profile collaborations from Gene Farris & Mark Knight who, bring their knowledge, experience, and maturity to the album.
