Dating can be pretty challenging, disastrous even. There are a number of different factors that can come into play and make a mess of the dating experience, dating pool, and relationships themselves. It's time to lean in, and explore some of the issues and problems that seriously hinder our ability to date and develop long lasting relationships. Where old flames, potential lovers, would be friends, and more seemingly return to one’s life. Humans are emotionally tethered beings. It's a part of our nature. It's why things can be said or done that cause us to act instinctively, out of emotion, without taking a second to stop and think. Genocide is happening in the modern day, right before our very eyes. Atrocities and inhumane acts are being committed and one would think that all we could do is watch, unblinkingly, while it occurs. The road to liberation never seems to be easy, but nevertheless, it is made up of many paths and avenues. In today's episode, Dre explores the different paths available to us when doing liberation work. We are not all foot soldiers, field medics, or financial backers. Some of us are digital advocates, historians, educators, or artists. Dre explores all of these ideas, linking them back to the very real world example of genocide taking place in the Middle East, as well as domestic examples and opportunities that can be engaged with on an almost regular basis.

There's an age old adage that says "It takes a village". Presumably, the original context is in relation to raising children/family building. However, that sentiment rings true and works in a number of other intersections of life as well. The reality is that support, and a sturdy support system, is a critical component of life. Following up from the previous episode On Being "Self-Made", Dre explores ideas regarding support and community. Dre touches on support from those we know, those we don't, and the dissonance that can often be experienced when our family and friends will support the endeavors of strangers and not those of us they personally know in real life. When we as people talk about being happy, it's often within the context of external forces affecting our feelings. As if some other person, place, or thing has the control rod and their finger on the button to determine if we'll be happy or not, much less if we'll stay happy or not. Following up from the previous episode, On Joy in Despair, Dre spends today's episode exploring the idea of happiness being a personal problem and solution. Personally, only you can make and keep yourself happy. It's a good day to be happy and stay happy, even in the midst of all the other things happening in life that you can't change.

There is nothing wrong with having a lover's heart. There's nothing wrong with you. Don't turn your love off or harden your heart for the world. Following off the heels of an episode about intent versus impact, it's time to talk about safe spaces. Are you one for the people in your life? You might be surprised by the answer. In today's episode, Dre talks about the invalidation of emotions and experiences, and how that can be discordant when you are trying to be a safe space for others. Sometimes we, even accidentally, invalidate what someone feels or is going through by minimizing its impact or scope. If we want others to come to us, and trust us enough to share, we have to do better about being safe spaces for them. Ask those closest to you how you can best show up as a safe space for them in their lives, and watch what happens.
