The Dalat Scoop

We've covered multiple ACSC trips before, but never ACSC Band. This year, Dalat's Honor Band team travelled to Hong Kong, and in this episode we have guest speakers Daniel W, Iyan S, and Adriaan H to rehash their experience with Peter. Tune in to hear what ACSC Band is all about!

What better way to prepare than to listen to fellow schoolmates that will give solid advice on which courses to take, which are beneficial, and which to avoid. Have you ever wondered how Dalat came to be? How it got its unique name and location? Well, in this episode, Myra and Ee Rynn talk about the beginnings of Dalat, and run through the basics you need to know about your school. With the Lunar New Year long weekend just past us, the entire campus is buzzing with talk of red packets (红包) and delicious snacks. But this holiday is not only celebrated by the Chinese, the Koreans and Vietnamese celebrate it too. Join Peter and Wonhoo as they recap what they normally do during LNY / CNY and the different traditions they have!

In this episode, Myra and Wonhoo explore their childhood memories, dreams, fears and obsessions. At the end, we get interviews from people around campus, explaining a childhood story of theirs. Listen in to hear about our scoop members' childhoods and young life!

AI has been a reoccuring theme throughout our lives, what with ChatGPT rising up and bots being available every corner of the internet. This episode, Jonathan and Abby explores AI and how it is affecting our world today, both positively and negatively.

This semester's drama production team gave us a wonderful 3 nights with a comedic mystery play, Afraid of the Dark. Limey, actress of Mata Hari, and Michael, actor of Chauncey, join us this episode to talk about their experience acting in the play. Do you have friends that live in the Dalat dorms? Have you been thinking of staying in the dorms? Well, here's an episode for you! Aunt Val (Jaffray) and Uncle Keith (Ziemer) join Myra and Wonhoo to talk about their experiences as dorm parents (and dorm kids!) and their favourite memories. Listen in if you want to hear about how the dorms have evolved, or how Jaffray and Ziemer differ from each other!

In this episode, Rio (10), Amanda (10) and Ashlyn (9) join Ee Rynn as they talk about their experience on the Impact trips they went on during the October fall break. There were three trips: Bandung, Perak, and Johor. Tune in to listen more about the activities and service in the trips, as well as the fun memories these three students made!

Three weeks ago, our Varsity Volleyball teams and Boys' Soccer team competed in the largest tournament of their seasons, ACSC. Boys' Volleyball travelled to YISS, Korea, while Boys' Soccer went to Grace, in Chiang Mai. Dalat hosted the Girls' Volleyball ACSC, giving the girls a home crowd. Listen in to hear Anna (VGV), Peter (VBV), and Josiah (VBS) recap their memories and highlights on the week-long trip as a team.

The first quarter of the year has flown by, with a nice fall break for resting up before the next quarter. Listen in to hear Wonhoo and Ee Rynn speak about how they felt about Q1, as well as the events they're anticipating in Q2.

This week our hosts, Dora, Myra, and Peter, are joined by Hyorim and Himani to talk about their experiences during Sneak and After-Sneak. Five seniors, Taewoo Song, Chris Jang, Nicole Khor, Jasmine Hassan, and Chika Tsumagari, spoke on their experience of being a senior and covered various topics such as applying to university, dealing with senioritis, senior privilege, and so much more. If you want the best high school experience, learn from these seniors' regrets, mistakes, and successes. So tune in for this episode before they leave Dalat for good!

Limey Chor, Jonathan Ooi, Michael Silverstein, and Keiryn Sandal, who are all in this semester's Dalat drama production, shared their experiences on performing "A Midsummer Night's Dream." If you watched the drama, want to join the drama, or are curious to know about the behind-the-scenes work, tune in! You will get a new and valuable perspective from the people who performed!

President and vice president of the junior class, Caleb and Noella joined as guest speakers for this week's episode on JSB, junior-senior banquet. They brought us through their experience in planning and hosting JSB and what sorts of work that went on behind the scenes. Chika, the host also shared her feelings about JSB as a senior as well as what preparation went behind the after JSB dinner.

Michael Hsu and Ee Rynn Ong who are in varsity track and field, and Nicole Khor who is in the varsity girl's soccer team share their experience on their ACSC trips. ACSC tournaments are when the Asian Christian School Conference come together and competes with one another. The soccer team went to Yiss in Korea and the track and field team went to Morrison in Taiwan. Tune in if you are interested in joining these sports teams or if your friends/children went on these trips!

We got a new mic! So we will be using this episode to show off our great microphone that the school just purchased for us by recording random ASMR sounds. If ASMR is where you get pleasure from, tune in, and look forward to our future episodes with better sound quality :)

As you know, Mr. Neeley, our beloved high school science teacher, will be leaving Dalat after this school year. So, we have decided to invite him as a guest to the Dalat Scoop to talk about his time here in Malaysia and what plans God may have for him in the future. We also compiled some farewell messages from his students. Tune in if you want to know more about Mr. Neeley's interesting life!

Ee Rynn, Michael Hsu, and Michael Silverstein discussed some grade stereotypes that exist in Dalat. Are seniors rude, are freshman too loud...? Tune in to know what other people might think of your grade!

Ee Rynn, Abby, Jonathan and DJ talk about Dalat's Principle's Advisory League, PAL. If you're curious to know about what their responsibilities are, and what it's like to be part of PAL, tune in!

We invited 3 special guests, Haylee Douglas, Noah Kaney, and Mr Wong, to talk about their experience with the ACSC tournament as well as their roles as captains and assistant coach. If you're interested in being part of the basketball team or any varsity team, the captains and to-be varsity coach give valuable insights on the season so tune in! 

Jasmine, Candy, Heeeun, and Marcus read out some of your guys' anonymous confessions. Some of the confessions were really funny and juicy, so tune in, especially if you're the one who asked for advice!

Jasmine, Ee Rynn, and Myra talked about unpopular opinions on Dalat! These opinions were sent directly from our fellow Dalat students anonymously, and we covered some scandalous topics, so tune in!! 

Finally, a season 3 with new members!! Nicole, Ee Rynn, Heeeun, and Candy talk about CB, too, so tune in for some new voices! 

In this episode, we talked about how Dalat Scoop will become an x-block next semester if you want to join! We also talked about what we were grateful for, the world cup, and how old we feel. Tune in if you're interested in joining us!! 

Benjamin Wong, Adam Lim, Nicole, and Chika will be talking about their varsity sports experience, especially focusing on Boys soccer, Boys  volleyball, and Girls volleyball ACSC tournament. 

With Myra, we shared our impact trip experiences. Myra went to Johor to serve refugees and we went to Perak to serve Orang Asli. Tune in if you want to know more about what we did!

We talked about all the events that happened after sneak and reflected on how we are doing mentally and emotionally as a senior after quarter 1. 

We talked about our sneak experience at Telunas Resort and some highlights and things to now. We also talked about the lovely after-sneak dinner the juniors had prepared for us.

DJ, Arielle, and Myra (juniors) discussed the topic revolving around international holidays and/or Merdeka since they recorded it on Merdeka !!

Myra joined us for this week's episode. We will be discussing somethings we think are either overrated or underrated. 

Nicole, Saidah, Jasmine, and I reflected on our high school life and gave some advice on how you should spend it. Tune in if you want to make the most of your time in Dalat! 

A quick welcome back episode about this school year!

For our last episode for this school year, we invited Mr. Steinkamp, the head of school, who unfortunately will be leaving us this year. We talked about his incredible life in Dalat as a student, teacher, and head of school. Many interesting facts about Dalat in the 80s to 2000s were revealed, as well as what we expect to see in Dalat 20 years from now. 

Mr. Thompson is leaving us this year, but before he goes, we talked about why he came, why he's leaving, his memories here and more.  

We interviewed four of the senior excom members to represent the class of 2022. We went over their time at Dalat and how they feel about going to university. Tune in for their last words before they leave Penang :(

Together with Benjamin Wong, we will be talking about the making of JSB and how we felt about the night of JSB. Ms. Wood, Mr. Davis, Joycelyn, Adam, and Saidah will talk about their role in organising the JSB as well as their overall take on it. 

We talked about the journey on getting our driver's licences, both good and bad experiences, as well as useful information you should keep in mind if you are getting yours soon! Tune in for Daewon and Evan's interesting stories too.
