Dance Mama In Conversation Series 3 - Ep 9 Anna Watkins with Swindon Dance
Join Dance Mama Founder/CEO, Lucy McCrudden, for a slice of conversation with choreographer Anna Watkins and musician, Barry Ganberg, after she led one of our hybrid workshops for professional dancing parents with Swindon Dance. Lucy had the honour of talking to one of Britain's most celebrated choreographers and movement directors, Kate Flatt OBE, about her experiences as a mother and prolific British artist, well-known for her legendary contribution to the original West End production of Les Misérables. This she created whilst her daughter was 5 years old and her son was a baby!
Kate's inspiring journey of working on multiple productions all over the world is an exceptional example of the intricacies required when navigating a family with an incredibly successful artistic career.
Kate has worked across a variety of art forms including opera, ballet, musical theatre, theatre and dance. Her work includes Three Sisters, Dream Play, Albert Speer (NT); Dr Faustus, T’is Pity She’s a Whore (Young Vic); Hamlet (Old Vic), Kreutzer Sonata (The Gate); Fiddler on the Roof, the original Les Misérables (West End).
Dance theatre includes Undivided Loves (Phoenix Dance), The Dancing Room (BBC2), Soul Play, Ballroom of Joys and Sorrows, Oss and Ox, Step Ladder and a Goat, The Weathermen (WPT).Opera includes Turandot, Aida, (ROH); Gloriana, Peter Grimes (Opera North) The Carmelites, Verdi’s Requiem (ENO). Kate is a Rayne Foundation and Churchill Fellow. She was awarded an OBE in 2020.

Meet Lucy McCrudden, Founder, Dance Mama and your host! Dance Mama is an advocacy entity celebrating professional dancing parents, highlight the issues that they face and providing inspiration, information and support.
It began as an article after the birth of Lucy's eldest child in One Dance UK’s magazine back in 2014 and quickly became a 'vital and unique' (Andrew Hurst MBE) platform. It now holds of 50 stories - some of which are being curated to be part of Dance Mama's podcast series.
Dance Mama also provides a mentoring programme, information hub and most recently Dance Mama Live! A programme of professional development activity online, supporting by the Arts Council and in partnership with Sadler’s Wells, One Dance UK, Yorkshire Dance, DanceXchange and Clearcut.
