Live Unoffended with Valerie George

This week I'm joined with Valerie George, author of Live Unoffended: A Bible Study on How to Live at Peace with Others . Valerie has found that every conflict has three main players: the offender, the offended, and the mediator. Sometimes we can even be all three within one conflict. This bible study digs into what God has to say to help these three types of people.

Madi's House with Julie Raleigh

Madi's House with Julie Raleigh

On this episode I am joined with Julie Raleigh, Madi's mom, founder of Madi's House in Cincinnati, Ohio. Julie along with an incredible team are eliminating barriers for young adults who are managing mental health challenges or the disease of addiction.

About Madi's House Madi's House offers struggling young adults a place to fill time, find friends, and feel hope. Here you can gather in an accepting community and participate in meaningful activities as you work on recovery after programmatic care for mental illness or addiction.

The daily grind of managing life with mental health issues and/ or the disease of addiction can get heavy. Madi knew that. One of her greatest frustrations was the lack of a safe, comfortable space to gather with others and just hang out. The doors of Madi's House are open for young adults struggling with mental health issues and who are clean and sober. We also welcome the family and loved ones supporting these young adults. Brett Ivy-Piney Oaks Homestead

Brett Ivy-Piney Oaks Homestead

About Brett Ivy My name is Brett, I’m the Chaos Coordinator aka the millennial mom trying my best to get this internet stuff done. I may also be the reason we, are here on our journey to use what nature has provided to thrive while we learn to preserve the past to create a more sustainable & sovereign future for our family. Bobby, my husband, and I are first generation homesteaders. We live here at Piney Oaks Homestead with our son, Lucas, and Bobby’s mother. Our hope is to work our butts off so together with our family, including my parents (who still reside in south Florida) will one day reap the literal fruits of our labor on a community sustainable, multigenerational homestead.

In 2018 we set a goal to leave behind our .23-acre suburban South Florida ‘ tropical paradise’ HOA governed homestead with over 8 varieties of fruit trees for more simple living in a not so tropical place. We were on track to go look at a completely off grid homestead 8k feet up in the mountains in April 2020 when our plans were quickly shut down a month before. Determined to leave the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale we got in the truck and started driving north. We started searching for our forever homestead in our home state. Fast-forward 5 months, 2 offers, and an ungodly number of showings we finally landed on Florida’s Nature Coast in an old ag town about an hour from Gainesville.

The past few years have been a whirlwind of learning… as a Florida native I have to say I’m still in shock that we have a frost date in Florida. We are super excited to have you all here to join along in our journey & share all that we learn with you. While your here have a look around, check out our recipes & vinegars too.

Sincerely,

Piney Oaks Homestead

Rickey Hill + Jeff Celentano, Director and Producer of The Hill Movie

Rickey Hill + Jeff Celentano, Director and Producer of The Hill Movie

RICKEY HILL

The Baseball Legend and Inspiration for THE HILL movie-In Theaters August 25th! Born in Fort Worth, Texas to a poor Baptist preacher, Rickey Hill’s life was a symphony of trials. Despite adversity, from poverty, bullying due to the braces on his legs, and balancing expectations and dreams, Rickey’s relentless pursuit of his passion in baseball made him one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen. His life is proof that every day is a canvas for growth, an opportunity to overcome hurdles and emerge stronger. Rickey’s journey is more than just a success story – it’s an inspiration for all to never let go of their dreams.

Jeff Celentano, Director & Producer Born and raised in the small rural town of Pemberton, in Southern New Jersey. Jeff says his hometown “looks more like the backlot at Universal Pictures than a suburb in South Jersey." Celentano began his career as an actor while living on the east coast. Today, he is fast becoming one of the freshest new directors in Hollywood. The actor turned-writer/director has managed to effectively combine comedy and drama with his own personalized style.

The story of Rickey Hill is a true-life drama of perseverance, faith, and talent emerging from a childhood of hardship, physical pain, and living in the shadow of his loving yet stern father. In adapting  a film of Hill’s story, director Jeff Celentano (Glass Jaw, Breaking Point) recognized right away the potential for greatness a movie made from it could have — much like Rickey himself had a potential on the baseball field that needed to be nurtured before it could fly. “I began this journey fifteen  years ago,” says Celentano. “It all started when my brother, Mark, happened to be sitting in the lobby of a hotel next to a stranger. That stranger turned out to be Rickey Hill.  My brother had overheard Rickey talking on the phone to someone about how a film about Rickey’s life had been in the process of getting made, but quickly fell apart.” “Mark struck up a conversation with Rickey and said, ‘You have to meet my brother, Jeff — he’s the perfect person to get your film made,’” Celentano continues. “Sometime after that, I met Rickey and flew to Fort Worth, Texas, to meet Michael A. Blubaugh, who owned the rights to Rickey’s life story.” Shortly after that meeting, the rights were secured and Celentano proceeded to climb the mountain that was THE HILL. Be sure to follow @thehillmov + grab your tickets Friday, August 25th!

Unapologetically You: Embracing Authenticity and Showing Up in the World is an 8-week series that will dig into how you can become more authentic and reveal the positive impacts it will have in your life. I mean, who doesn't want a transformative journey that leads to a more meaningful and empowered life?! Show Notes:

How to be yourself and why it matters Stephen Joseph suggests asking yourself the following questions:

Do you feel free to make your own choices?

Do you feel free to express your own views and opinions?

Do you feel you can be yourself ona day-to-day basis?

If you answer “no” to any of the questions, reflect on one further question:

Could it be that you are not being true to who you are?

Revision-Digging into a more vulnerable space within

Revision-Digging into a more vulnerable space within

Revising our lives from time to time can have numerous benefits, including:

  1. Clarity: Revising our lives helps us gain clarity about our goals, aspirations, and priorities. We can evaluate whether we are on the right track, and if not, we can make adjustments to align our lives with our values and aspirations.

  2. Growth: By revising our lives, we can identify areas where we need to grow and develop. This can help us become more self-aware, learn new skills, and acquire new knowledge. In turn, this can lead to personal and professional growth.

  3. Renewal: Revising our lives allows us to let go of things that no longer serve us and start fresh. It can help us break free from habits, relationships, and situations that are holding us back, and create space for new opportunities and experiences.

  4. Health and well-being: Revising our lives can improve our physical and mental health. By eliminating stressors, cultivating healthy habits, and creating a more balanced and fulfilling life, we can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and improve our overall well-being.

  5. Increased productivity: When we revise our lives, we can eliminate distractions and focus on what is most important to us. This can help us become more productive, efficient, and effective in achieving our goals and objectives.

In short, revising our lives from time to time can help us gain clarity, grow and develop, renew our energy, improve our health and well-being, and increase our productivity.

Growth Mindset Part 6- Your Support System

A support system is a network of people or facilities that provide practical or emotional support to an individual and can help a person cope with challenges or achieve goals. Who is in your support system? How often do you lean on them when you need to decompress or make a big decision? So often we run in a self-sufficient mode that doesn't allow us to move towards a growth mindset and today I'm sharing why it's important to take time to connect with those in our circle and the benefits that can come with opening up.

What's Your Story with Amy Sullivan

What's Your Story with Amy Sullivan

Today we're chatting with Amy Sullivan, singer-songwriter based in Ontario, Canada.

Shared from Amy, "I’m a pop singer-songwriter based in Ontario, Canada. Storytelling, speaking, and advocating for the special needs community, I draw on my own personal journey as a mother of two children with special needs to bring hope and encouragement to others through music.⠀After leaving life as an artist behind for many years to start my family, the journey of processing my son’s diagnosis eventually drew me back to writing. In 2021 I released a 5-song EP based on my experiences of learning to trust God through this new struggle in my life.⠀I have known loneliness, isolation, and grief after seeing my life unfold differently than I had planned. It’s become my mission to offer hope to the mom who feels the same. I think of YOU when I write songs. The hidden moments of worry. The lack of sleep. Another day without a shower and another messy bun. The incredible love and sacrifices you make every day. Every mom has the right to be seen and heard, no matter where she finds life takes her.⠀So, to the mom who may feel her dreams have to be set aside: take courage! God isn’t finished with you yet! It’s never too late for a second chance at a dream. Your own story may be just what someone else needs to hear.⠀I pray that my little corner of the internet will remind you of who you are and that on the tough days, you’ll find a song here to encourage you to keep going."

Learning From Others.

Learning From Others.

We not only can learn from our own personal story, but we can also learn by listening to someone else's story. Get ready to be inspired by Oliver Asher, author of Invincible Joy! Listen in today to learn more about how over time he was transformed by the Lord. "I spent my childhood in poverty, my house burned down (twice), I've spent days wondering where my next meal would come from. I once dreamed that I was going to lose my job, then found out the next day that dream was coming true. In the midst of it all, God was there with me. Through those experiences I learned the secret to joy that doesn’t fade and doesn’t depend on circumstances. That’s Invincible Joy." -Oliver Asher

What's Your Story? Part 3

This is part 3 in the 4 part series, What's Your Story? This week I'm sharing how a find at the antique store got me to thinking about how when thinking about our own personal story is similar to a scrap book. It's made up of several pieces that account for us as the whole we are today. I'm asking for you to consider over the week what matters to you, evaluate your commitments and what might have to be eliminated to make room for something you are feeling called towards, decided on what you, yourself, believe in-not what the world has shaped you into believing and lastly consider taking time to pray/meditate on all of these things. This allows an opportunity to reflect, rethink, and consider who we are and who we want to be in the days to come.

Friends, isn’t it nice in these shorter days to see all the beautiful Christmas lights lit up? They add a sense of beauty rather compared to when they are taken down at the beginning of the year. Today I’m sharing how people in our community have been the light to us this season and how they have given us the gift of Christmas spirit to carry with us into the year ahead.

Restoration: Becoming who you need to be today so you can be who you need to be for tomorrow.

Restoration: Becoming who you need to be today so you can be who you need to be for tomorrow.

Hello there! Thank you for joining me today out here in the middle!

This morning I asked my children in carline what I should share about on the podcast and my son belted out from the back seat, “why don’t you write about all the unfinished projects around the house, like the bathroom upstairs. “He then went on to list the other things that need to be addressed around our 184-year-old house. I’ll be honest with you. I was a little peeved that he brought up the to-do-list that early in the morning and the way he said it felt like it was jab at the season of life we are in- trying to raise three young children as well as restore an old house that at times declares major attention sometimes. I took my son’s suggestion as a challenge and began to reflect on who we were when we first stepped into this old house and how this house has been restoring us into who we needed to be for today.

Have you ever accounted for the guideposts in your life?

Have you ever accounted for the guideposts in your life?

I know the holidays are branded as the happiest time of the year, but for many people, it’s one of the most difficult. For some, holidays serve as permeant place cards within their year found on every wall calendar to phone calendar making it nearly impossible to completely avoid. Not to mention how stores these days seem to have the next holiday retail items up for sale before the current holiday has even arrived. These written and visual benchmarks of where we are within the year can be bittersweet, but what if we started taking note of the guideposts that have occurred and how they have propelled us through the year?

Today, I’ll be discussing how it has taken the last five years to see how the guideposts which have helped us find our "fortune" today.
