What Do Pro-Israel People Think About The Gaza Death Toll?
What do people in the pro-Israel community think about the mounting death toll in the Gaza Strip.
IsraelFAQs - new website for debunking lies about Israel
IsraelFAQs is a recently released platform to help advocates of Israel debunk lies told about Israel.
How Many Israelis Are Smokers?
Since the outbreak of the October 7th war against Hamas in Gaza, Israelis are drinking more, smoking more, working out less, and using prescription sleeping aids in record numbers.
But what are levels of smoking and tobacco use like in Israel generally - and how does Israel compare in this respect against other OECD member states?
Challenges Facing Jerusalem - And Some Potential Solutions
In this video podcast I discuss what I see as three key challenges facing the future of the city of Jerusalem. These observations are informed by my almost ten years of living as a Jewish immigrant in the city and by findings from the Jerusalem Institute For Policy Research (JIPR) among other sources. I discuss the challenges of poverty, affordable housing, and security - and provide some ideas for how the city could tackle these challenges.
Anti-Zionism Is Anti-Semitism By Another Name
Opinion:
Judaism is a religion rooted in the Land of Israel. Zionism is a national and political movement whose goal is to re-forge that ancient connection. One cannot oppose the right of the Jewish people to self-determination, and to practice their religion fully and freely, without opposing their religion itself.
Why Does Ireland Seem To Hate Israel So Much?
Recently, Ireland has emerged as one of the most strident critics of Israel's response to the October 7th massacre. However, Ireland's antipathy to Israel seems to long predate this current conflict. In this episode, I discuss some potential explanations for why Ireland seems so mired in opposition to Israel. I touch also on antisemitism as well as the pro-Israel community in Ireland.
What is the significance of Jerusalem Day?
Why is Jerusalem Day such a controversial holiday ... and what does it signify for Israeli Jews? Is it just about celebrating Israel's capital city of Jerusalem or does it have some greater significance? By: Daniel Rosehill.
Israel on course to become a 'Jewish Afghanistan'?
Professor Dan Ben-David, an expert in socioeconomics and President of the Shoresh Institution, has used a piece in The Times of Israel to argue that unless Israel course-corrects with its judicial reform proposals, that the country could become analogous to a "Jewish Afghanistan". Ben-David: “Without a complete overhaul of Israel’s education system (along the lines outlined in the previous article in this series), the country’s future will be a Jewish version of Afghanistan, an inhospitable place that our children and grandchildren will not want to live in, a racist country that is a pariah in the international community.” Prof. Ben-David's blog in full: "For a glimpse of Israel’s future, look not at Poland or Hungary, but at Afghanistan" https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/for-a... Drama in Israel: (possible) constitutional collapse, terror attacks, settlement legalisation (all in one week!)
For followers of politics, life in Israel is seldom without its fair share of intrigue and drama.
The latest couple of weeks, however, have been marked by an especially intense uptick in all manner of events.
Domestically, attention has been centred around far-reaching judicial reform proposals which threaten to greatly undermine the independence and power of the judiciary and which critics are likening to the end of Israeli democracy.
Simultaneously, the security situation in Israel remains brittle - with 6 fatal terror attacks carried out by Palestinians on Israeli civilians in the last 5 days alone.
To add to this: Israel decided, yesterday, to retrospectively legalise 9 hitherto illegal settlements in the West Bank, drawing swift condemnation from the US, the EU, and the broader international community.
What's to come next in the rollercoaster?

Dr John Damianos MD On The Gut Brain Axis, Its Disorders, And Treatment Approaches
John Damianos MD is an internal medicine resident at Yale and a frequent Tweeter on all matters related to gastrointestinal health, the gut-brain axis, and the microbiome.
I invited him to come on this YouTube channel in order to share some of his knowledge about these mysterious conditions and the advances that medical science has recently taken in furthering our understanding of them.
== Covered in this conversation: == (Timestamps next section)
- The role of the microbiome in regulating the gut brain axis and the two way feedback process between our central and enteric nervous systems.
- - Why doctors commonly favor older tricyclic antidepressants ("neuromodulators") over more modern drugs such as SSRIs and SNRIs
- What the drug pipeline and treatment horizon looks like for these conditions
- The Rome Foundation's decision to move away from the terminology 'functional' when describing these disorders
- "PTSD of the gut" - how physical and mental stressors can create lasting dysfunction and GI syndromes.
== Terminology used:==
DGBI: Disorders of the gut-brain interaction.
Hopefully some good information here for patients and even pracitioners involved in treating these common conditions.

Why I Choose To Live In Jerusalem And Not Tel Aviv
Jerusalemites are commonly asked "why do you live in Jerusalem and not Tel Aviv?"
Even internationals sometimes assume that everyone living in Israel must live in Tel Aviv.
There are reasons why Jerusalem - Israel's capital - has its own charm and continues to attract many new residents to Israel.
With ongoing light rail development and construction, the city is also preparing to become better connected.
In this episode of the Daniel Rosehill Podcast, I share a little bit about what has attracted me to stay in this historic city and what I see as its strong points.

33: 3 Keys To Creating More Effective Remote Working Environments
This morning, I wrote a blog post summarizing my experience, this year, working with a variety of organizations in remote and hybrid configurations.
I believe that organizations that do remote working well have (among others) three standout features: they know how to manage appropriately in a remote environment; they document everything from the get-go; and they leverage asynchronous communication to coordinate projects more effectively.

Functional dyspepsia (FD): Professor Nicholas Talley answers patients' FAQs
Functional dyspepsia (FD) is an often debilitating gastroenterological condition that afflicts millions of people around the world. It is divided into two subtypes — one dominated by epigastric pain and another by postprandial symptoms — and has long posed a challenge for clinicians and patients alike.
Australian neurogastroenterologist and researcher Professor Nicholas J. Talley has been at the forefront of studying this previously poorly understood condition and has conducted extensive research into the gut-brain axis.
I used the opportunity to ask Professor Talley various questions about the current state of play in FD treatment - and what us patients could look forward to down the line.
Professor Talley served as a member of the Rome Foundation for 17 years, was appointed to the consultant staff of the Mayo Clinic in 1993, and has published over 100 research papers into various aspects of gastroenterology including in the world's leading medical journals.

31: Why I've Stopped Defining Myself As A Freelance Writer
In the first ever text to speech (TTS) narrated edition of this podcast, I (or the bots I used!) narrate a recent blog post that I shared on Medium.com explaining why, for now, I've decided that defining myself as a freelance writer is no longer the professional image that bests suits my needs and career objectives.

30: My experience with cyberbullying and harassment on Reddit
My experience with cyberbullying and harassment just keeps getting weirder and weirder. This morning I received a temporary suspension from the network for reporting the bullying I was receiving - which was called 'report abuse'. I'm recording all this in order to draw attention to the fact that cyberbullying and anti-Semitism are running rampant and unchecked on the social network.
29: Testing pitch modulation for anonymizing my voice
My friend and I are thinking about interviewing somebody on a podcast we host but we'd have to anonymize his voice. I recorded this to demonstrate the limits of basic pitch modulation for anonymizing a voice. My Irish accent comes through but it goes some part of the way towards disguising my identity (I think).
28: Increased authenticity as a reaction to cyberbullying (on Reddit)
Today, I continued to receive online harassment and cyberbullying on Reddit - with a "moderator" even lending explicit support. I'm sure that the hatred will eventually simmer down and I'm looking forward to no longer participating on Reddit. But equally it's got me wondering: what positives can I draw from this experience? I wanted to suggest - for myself and anybody else watching this - sharing more openly and authentically as a solution. Cyberbullying and cyberabuse is facilitated by online anonymity. Perhaps being more open about who we are and what we stand for is the counterbalance that can create less of it in the world. By: Daniel Rosehill.
27: 5 Tips To Successfully Living in Israel / Making Aliyah
Want some tips about living in Israel / making aliyah that you won't find elsewhere on the internet? From 7 years' in the country, here are some of the things I think can make a big difference to your average oleh's experience of life in the country.
26: What's it like to live in Jerusalem?
I've been living in Jerusalem, Israel, for the past seven years. What's living here like? What are the pros and cons? Some thoughts on both.
25: What's it like being an Irish Jew?
What's it like being Irish and Jewish at the same time? I'm an Irish Jew, born in Dublin, and I wanted to share a few thoughts about the sometimes conflicted identity of being an Irish Jew.
24: Quitting Reddit, cyberbullying, and online anonymity!
Today, I decided that I'm quitting Reddit. After two years on the network, I've just grown sick of the toxicity, cyberbullying (usually unchecked by moderators), and harassment. I wanted to use the opportunity to talk a little bit about the effects of anonymity and how it often leads to cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and online harassment. I don't believe that Reddit and the moderators that police its communities are doing enough to take this issue seriously. If you've experienced cyberbullying, then don't hesitate to reach out for help!
23: What's it actually like to live in Israel?
What's it actually like to live in Israel? Some pros and cons.
20: Can you be a full time writer with ADHD?
In a re-recording of my previous podcast on the topic (I got cold feet!) I talk about whether you can work as a full time writer while having ADHD. This episode might be of interest to any writers that have ADHD and one of its subtypes.
21: The benefits of flight mode for productivity
Flight mode is one of the best productivity-enhancing discoveries that I've ever made. In this episode of the podcast, I discuss how I chanced upon flight mode and how I used it in order to get into better flow states when writing.
19: What was it like growing up Jewish in Ireland?
This podcast is a bit jumbled but I discuss my recent dispatch from Israel to RTÉ Prime Time and my interest in journalism. I segue into my thoughts about my Irish Jewish identity and what it was like growing up Jewish in Ireland.
18: Alex Fasulo, Freelance Course Creators, and Fiverr and Tik Tok Millionaires
In episode 18 of the Daniel Rosehill Podcast I discuss my recent Medium post discussing the case of Alex Fasulo, who claims to have made $378K in yearly revenue just from working on Fiverr. I explain what I think about freelance writing course providers in general and why I think that, in most cases, they're selling useless information or information that could be obtained for free. I also run through the graphic I created which explains, I believe, how the monetization strategy behind these courses typically works.
16: Why inbound marketing is great for freelancers
Inbound marketing is one of the most powerful means of scaling a freelance business (of any kind). It allows one to develop an ongoing 'drip' of inbound leads. Unlike outbound marketing, it tends to accrue in value over time. It's perfect for tiny business units like solo freelancers who don't have the resources to talk to lots of potential leads only to convert a minority into customers. I've started getting results from inbound in the last year - and wish I had started 5 years previously!
15: Is petty corporate espionage bogging down your sales pipeline?
In this episode of the podcast, I discuss my longstanding belief that petty corporate espionage is a pervasive phenomenon facing freelancers and small businesses. I discuss some of my own experiences dealing with overly inquisitive sales "leads," talk briefly about some of my own (regrettable) attempts to collect competitor intelligence, and explain why I think that transparency and authenticity can remove the need for such deceptive practices.
14: My journey with freelance writing to date
13: Pseudonyms and fake online identities
To accompany my recent Medium post — and some recent goings-on in my life — I recorded this episode to discuss the interesting dynamic of fake online identities which is growing in significance as deep fakes and other manifestations of AI trickery take over the internet. This provided a nice segue to discuss a recent pseudonymous publishing experiment and why pseudonyms — and fake IDs — are not supposed to be one and the same. As I also try to point out, I think that fake identities have very important white-hat use-cases, although obviously they are a double edged sword.

12: My struggle with functional dyspepsia (FD)
There's very little information online about functional dyspepsia (FD). To make my small contribution towards changing that, I decided to record a podcast episode - in lieu of a failed video attempt - describing what FD is, what its two subtypes are, and the problems it can throw up for sufferers.
11: Why are Irish eyes on Israel's pandemic response?
I spent a chunk of this week giving commentary from 'on the ground' (in Israel) to Irish media organizations. Why are the Irish so interested in Israel's management of the pandemic? And why is Israel doing such a great job at rolling out a vaccine push? I share my thoughts on episode eleven of the Daniel Rosehill Podcast.
10: The Value Of Being Less Responsive
In episode ten of the podcast I discuss a blog post I wrote several months ago about (what I see as) the value of being less responsive.
I discuss the various methodologies I have used to ensure that I remain in a flow state of focus without becoming bogged down in notifications and getting sidelined by synchronous forms of communication.
As I state, this is very much a work in progress for me. And while I'm still nowhere near as focused as I would like to be, the steps I have instituted so far have made a tremendous difference in terms of how much I get achieved each day and I how satisfied I feel with my work.

09: Phrases To Cool The Fire Of Angry Online Debates
The internet can be a hostile and angry place. Good debates can quickly turn into ugly mud-slinging contests and reasoned back-and-forths can quickly lose all semblance of respectability.
Drawing upon a couple of recent experiences, here are some customer service stock phrases that can be used to help calm down debates and extricate oneself from the fire.

06: Trusting Your Gut Instinct In Freelancing
Somebody recently asked on Quora: "what is your advice to an aspiring freelancer?" I offered my opinion as to why I think gut instincts are a bit like our own built-in ML models: they get better with time as they accrue more underlying data from our experience. I also go through some of the common orange and red flags I have encountered during five years of freelance writing. And explain why, over time, I have come to understand that strong gut instinct should be trusted unless you are on the fence or there is a compelling reason to seek a second opinion.

05: Dealing With Criticism (And Abuse) As A Writer
I had what I think was an interesting revelation last week: virtually anybody that publishes frequently online, or podcasts, or produces YouTube videos, is going to come up against both legitimate online criticism and online abuse sooner or later. In this episode of my podcast, I give a little bit of background about how I got into writing — including my epoch founding Cork Student News, UCC's first student news website (later StudentNews.ie) — and discuss why I think getting comfortable with criticism is an essential part of the creative journey no matter what it is that you do.

02: Ten Things That I Would Like To Change About Israel
I recorded this podcast episode to accompany my recent Times of Israel post:
https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/10-things-id-like-to-change-about-life-in-israel/
The podcast was really a summary of a few previous things I have written about living in Israel.
I talk about ten things I would like see change in Israel if that were somehow possible, including:
- A lower cost of living
- Breaking the property bubble
- Less shitat mazliach (exploitation and taking advantage)
- Better customer service
- Politicians that serve the people rather than defend their own interests
- A rethinking of hasbara
- Better tenant protection law
- Better consumer protection
- Better post aliyah support
- Better banking
