Gitcoin Grant - Bundle: Emerging Economies and Indigenous Communities Bundle

Gitcoin Grant - Bundle: Emerging Economies and Indigenous Communities Bundle

For its S16 Alpha Round (taking place from January 17 - 31, 2023 with the brand new Gitcoin protocol), Gitcoin has created 10 Climate Solutions Bundles that group some Grantees by project type. Contributors will then be able to donate to the bundle as a whole and then the sum of contributions and matching funds will be distributed between all the projects within the specific bundle.
In this episode we talk to some folks from the Emerging Economies and Indigenous Communities Bundle, which states in its Grant page that:
"For its Humanity must choose to either embrace economic transformation or continue down the path of destruction, desecration and resource theft via war, infringement and oppression. We see many people, worldwide, standing up to denounce the latter. The mission of these projects is to steward and lay the foundation for emerging economies and indigenous communities that are built on the principles of abundance, knowledge sharing, trust and an intimate connection to our fellow human beings, nature and ourselves."

So hit play to lean about some of the people and individual projects in the bundle.
And consider donating to it.

MetaGov 2.0 - New Initiatives, How to get involved & the interior dimension of governance

MetaGov 2.0 - New Initiatives, How to get involved & the interior dimension of governance

In this episode we have received Joshua from the Metagovernance project. In his second appearance on the show he has given us both updates on the development of MetaGov as well as his takes on the future of digital social interactions. Amidst that we have also explored how the MetaGov project is structured with regards to its org design and we have talked about some of the inspirations behind the project. And of course some of its flagship initiatives, like Gateway. Most excitingly Joshua gave us details about the MetaGov DAO and its current call for proposals, which seeks to upscale and upskill the metagov community by incentivizing collaboration among the members of the network. We ended the episode by elucidating the importance of the human factor or the "interior dimension" of governance.

This show had two firsts:

It was the first show with real-time mapping as well as the first co-hosted show. We were lucky to have the integralist practitioner Jakob Possert as a steward of the conversation, with his bright insights and beautiful shirt! This is his website and this is where he is practicing integral theory.

The conversation has been mapped on a sticky note dashboard and you can visit it in order to vote for the topics that you found most relevant. We will use this as feedback to steer future episodes. You can also find a video recording of this conversation at DAOcast's youtube channel.

For all of that, this was a truly grounded inspirational show!

taoDAOcast

- 'DAOcast has returned!' \(>")/

- 'But it has never gone!' (>")

Yup, this seems like crazy talk. But hey, the world did flip inside-out/upside-down in 2020, so who knows who is right?

The fact is that there is fresh energy orbiting DAOcast. Fresh energy springing from taoDAO - an experimental DAO framework centered around cultural patterns, as opposed to technological tools. A DAO whose purpose is the co-creation of regenerative multimedia content. Or better yet, as Vinícius puts it in this episode: “It’s not only to produce regenerative content. But for you, yourself, to have a regen experience for your life, so you can report on that. So you can share that.”

Since taoDAO's inception DAOcast has been one of its main channels, so it was only a matter of time for these two initiatives to begin a fusion dance, whose outcome is unknown. In fact, the outcome is up to us to co-create. Yes, you and me.

Tune-in in order to better understand all of this non-sense and if anything resonates with you, don't hesitate to get in touch.

DEORA.earth | LeapDAO

DEORA.earth | LeapDAO

In this episode (amidst the corona crisis) I met Max, Victor, and Johann from DEORA.earth, who shared a lot of cool things around what they are building and how they are doing it. An approach that differs from many of the things we see out there.

For example, we talked about one of the first test drive they ran with their tech, collaborating with the German political party Volt and testing quadratic voting with real users, in a pretty clever way! It was nice to hear about a DAO tool being used with non tech people.

We also talked more about Quadratic Voting, DAO integration and, of course, leapDAO. Overall, an enjoyable conversation with builders who seem aware of what they are doing. Thanks, guys! And I hope to see your podcast on the street!

Joshua Tan | Metagovernance Project

Joshua Tan | Metagovernance Project

“As communities grow, as they get more complicated, they need more and more complicated rule sets and mechanics to deal with the problems that inevitably arise. And what we want to do is provide a set of shared natively cross-platform tools that allow people to plug and play different kinds of social and computational mechanisms.”

In today's episode, we receive the computer scientist & Governance Crusader Joshua Tan, from the Metagovernance Project. In a very friendly chat, we explore a bit of what goes on behind the curtains of MMOs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games), and how the dynamics from virtual world can lead to valuable insights for governance in general.

We also explore Cyber-physical systems and how they have been understood from different communities (e.g. the DAO movement and national agencies). More interesting yet, we talk about the difference between discrete (computational) and continuous (physical) systems, and what that means for digitally mediated governance.  And much much more, such as:

  • More governance Complexity
  • Online Communities growth and adaptive coordination software
  • Collective Sense-making
  • Collective Feeling
  • Modular Politics Paper
    • What is the best abstraction to understand how people do Collective Sense-making?
    • Action Situation - formal game (game theory) used as way to understand how people make choices/work together to make collective decisions.
    • What are the action situations that exist online?
  • How can we improve governance in DAOs and in the internet as a whole?

Will Harborne | DeversiFi | NecDAO

"And I think only a decentralized organization will be able to grow the largest exchange."

Happy 2020! The year has begun very early for DAOcast!

And to kick things off, we received Will Harborne, founder of DeversiFi and one of the initiators of necDAO.

Will 2020 be the year of the DAO? We are about to find out, as we have explored in this episode. Moreover, we had the chance to go over the intricacies DeversiFi and NecDAO, including:

- A bit  on the back story of DeversiFi and its origins with Ethfinex;

- Examples of previous experiments in decentralised technology;

- The why behind NecDAO, it’s purpose, what it is constitutionally designed to achieve and how much funds it will launch with.

- As well as where these funds came from and how NecDAO will work, diving into the technicalities.

So, overall, the conversation was a good start to this year's work, opening up opportunities for the larger community to engage with another resourceful DAO. Tune in for the Nectar and if you have any questions, let Will know.

DAO to 🌍 | 9 | Felipe Duarte

DAO to 🌍 | 9 | Felipe Duarte

"DAO to Earth" is an inquiry based project that seeks to further understand the experience of participating in a DAO, and how this new framework for organizing relates to the world we’re currently living in.

It was funded by the Genesis DAO through Alchemy (DAOstack's first DAO interface), and it is comprised of 9 interviews with Genesis members. It is hoped that this series will function as a DAO-knowledge library for current builders and future explorers of the dawn of DAOs.

---

“The only thing I have to say is that state is an illusion created by the process of making a statement.”

The DAO to Earth series has reached its final episode!

This journey has never been about where it would end, but about the paths it could cross. In that sense, it has been a beautiful ride. In total, 9 unique conversations with builders of the DAO space, with topics ranging from the experience of participating in a DAO, to the meaning of this way of organizing in the world we are living in.

A big shout out the Genesis community who has embraced this experiment (and funded it)! It has been a pleasure to engage with you in conversation that have expanded what we know about DAOs, distributed organizing and, ultimately, ourselves.

For the final conversation, we received Felipe Duarte, creator of the DAO Canvas and DAOfest. He was also in the final episode of DAOcast’s first season, which brought a really nice touch to the end of this cycle!

Once more, our conversation has been dense and intense. Speaking from Puerto Rico, Felipe shared many news about the festDAO and DAOfest, including its edition in Puerto Rico and the token economics around this distributed network of events. Spoiler alert, it is worth volunteering at DAOfest! We have also gained a historical perspective of Felipe’s life in the blockchain/DAO space, as well as the creation and use of the DAO Canvas in different contexts.

Finally, we arrived at a discussion about the fundamental driving forces behind human creativity, as well as the wishes and needs around it. Such a philosophical jamming is always open-ended, but it did allow us to explore assumptions that, ultimately, influence our engagement with DAOs. Therefore, this was a great way to finish the episode, and the series!

A big thank you to all of you who have contributed and followed the DAO to Earth saga. To me (Danilo), it was honor to pilot it! And I look forward to other similar opportunities!

“This is the end. Beautiful friend. This is the end”

> “The legal agreements would reflect what the DAO was doing and not the other way around.”

For the first time in DAOcast, we have an episode where guest is host and host is guest. Jordan Ellis, one of the co-founders of dOrg, kindly agreed to be the host of an episode of the DAO to Earth series and invited his peers to join this experiment. The result? A distributed conversation among dOrg members about the functioning and purpose of this pioneering DAO.

As usual, we covered a lot of ground:

- The inner working of dOrg, which seems to have managed to amazingly balance trust and trustlessness in its internal dynamics.

- The interface between dOrg and other organizations, both legally and culturally speaking.

- How dOrg became the first legal DAO to ever exist, without loosing what makes it decentralized in its essence.

- How to be part of and/or help dOrg grow.

- The next steps for Web3

A juicy episode, that sheds light on many of the subtleties around distributed dynamics, both internally and externally. More importantly, an episode with substantial experiences from pioneers who have made things happen despite challenges.

A big shout out to our host, Jordan Ellis. And our guests Ori Shimony, Hector, and Cesar.

It was funded by the Genesis DAO through Alchemy (DAOstack's first DAO interface), and it is comprised of 9 interviews with Genesis members. It is hoped that this series will function as a DAO-knowledge library for current builders and future explorers of the dawn of DAOs.

---

“From my experience with hip hop, it's all about the experience of being there, the vibration of the crowd.”

One amazing thing about DAOs is that they attract all kinds of curious mind, with very diverse backgrounds and ares of expertise. This episode with Hip Hop artist and cultural producer Jason Vandal is the perfect example of that.

“Growing up in the heart of Chinatown, Downtown Toronto, Jason fell in love with Hip Hop in the 80’s and would Breakdance on Queen St. for spare change with his childhood friends and was always eager to put on a show.” (Vandal's Biography)

Since then, life has taken him to live and perform in many places around the world. South East Asia is the bioregion he has been the closest to, choosing Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as his home.

As a rapper, community builder, and producer, Vandal had many reasons to experiment with decentralized technologies. Steemit was his window into this world, leading up to the project “Hip Hop the Blockchain”. From there, Vandal has discovered the world of DAOs and is now in the process of on-boarding into Alchemy and Genesis.

We talked about all of that and more in our chat. With his very unique perspective, Vandal told us abut the parallels between Hip Hop and Blockchain, some of his disillusions with both movements, his experience as a newcomer of the DAO world, and the way he sees Wu-Tang Clan and Taoist Wu Wei philosophy giving rise to the DAO of Wu.

Indeed, a unique episode!

It was funded by the Genesis DAO through Alchemy (DAOstack's first DAO interface), and it is comprised of 9 interviews with Genesis members. It is hoped that this series will function as a DAO-knowledge library for current builders and future explorers of the dawn of DAOs.

---

"You know, we don’t need to start anything actually, we just need to empower the people that are doing it."

In this episode we are joined by Luuk Weber, entrepreneur and net-weaver of the DAO movement in the Caribbean. In the show, he shares his experiences with community building and event organizing around blockchain and crypto in the region, leading up to the creation of the Caribbean Blockchain Network, the organizing of different events, and the launching of the CuraDAO, a community owned (and governed) social impact fund for the sustainable development and overall betterment of the Curaçao island.

We also discussed what it takes to DAO in regards to profiles of people currently more likely to engage with this technology, drawing upon Luuk’s experience with onboarding, of himself and others. On that note, we also hear about his experience joining Genesis and his impressions on it technology and community.

A very interesting point that Luuk brought up in this conversation is how reputation within a DAO could be better leveraged than what it currently is, especially in regards to dynamics happening outside the digital world and/or password management in collectives.

And, of course, we dived deep into the experiences of CuraDAO and DAOfast Amsterdam, both of which have been co-initiated by Luuk. Since the interview, CuraDAO has launched its new website and taken steps towards its ambitious vision of catalyzing social change in the island.

---

“My argument is that Alchemy should be a social app first.

In a very fluid conversation, Eylon came chat with us about his path towards blockchain: starting in China - where he kick started a huge decentralized Crypto Community - all the way to dHack, the first DAO powered decentralized hackathon.

With the vision for dHack, we talked about how it came to be and how it works, the projects that have come out from previous instances (including Alchemy’s mobile app), and the details of the next edition in ETH Waterloo. In addition to this, we also discussed the recent happenings in the world in regards to blockchain technology, such as Zuckerberg's testimony to Congress, and Xi Jinping’s recent announcement. Needless to stress the importance of this last part for the entire space.

Another layer of this conversation was the social aspect of DAOs, which nowadays is arguably poorly explored technologically speaking. Most interactions between DAO members are mediated through traditional chat apps, such as Telegram and Discord. Despite doing the job, these are not seamless integrations, and don’t bring any additional benefit to decentralized decision making.

Despite the storm, another rich episode for DAOcast.

"DAO to Earth” is an inquiry based project that seeks to further understand the experience of participating in a DAO, and how this new framework for organizing relates to the world we’re currently living in.

It was funded by the Genesis DAO through Alchemy (DAOstack’s first DAO interface), and it is comprised of 9 interviews with Genesis members. It is hoped that this series will function as a DAO-knowledge library for current builders and future explorers of the dawn of DAOs.

---

“If we don’t all break our minds free, this experiment will be like any other one.”

In this episode of the series, we received Grace Rachmany, whose previous experiences in the field are difficult to summarize: Coauthor of the first leadership handbook specifically for the crypto industry: So You've Got a DAO. Participant in dGov Forum, Genesis DAO (DAOstack). Founder DAOleadership.com, which provides governance consulting for DAOs as well as Leadership Training for DAOs. Founder of IwriteICOwhitepapers.com, which produced more than 100 whitepapers for ICOs and STOs. 30 years in technology industries as a writer, manager, and entrepreneur. Founder / CEO of 3 profitable service businesses in the tech space.

As one can imagine, the conversation with Grace was one of a kind. She gave us the good, the bad, and the ugly of decentralization, with no fear of speaking her truth. For example, one of the key points we touched on was: Who has created the rules of the value games we play nowadays? And why is crypto, which has the potential to change said rules, often being leveraged to enforce the same old dynamics we already know are fragile?

We also talked about our experiences with collaborative dynamics that worked well precisely because there was no incentive other than empathy, and whether or not those can be catalyzed by the emerging technologies of blockchain. And, of course, we dived into projects in the space, such as Holochain and DAOstack.

A treat to any DAO enthusiast.

“The key aspect of the protocol is the creation of an entity - or an object - that we call an “eve”, which is an evolving entity.”

For the third instance of the DAO to Earth series, we receive spaceship developer Pepo Ospina, creator of Collective One and the Underscore Protocol.

As expected, this conversation was nothing short of fly! Pepo walked us through his path towards decentralization, sharing how it derived from frustrations he had with corporate hierarchical structures, alongside his interest in open collaboration. All of which brought his to start working on Collective One, a platform for collaboration whose premise is to let people channel their energy into something with as few barriers as possible.

We then quickly got into the gist of the conversation by exploring the Underscore Protocol, a protocol that allows people to, quite literally, give life to all kinds of digital files so as to “breed” them in process of creating articles, music, and other types of content.

Sounds crazy, right? Well, listen up and see for yourself!

DAO to 🌍 | 2 | Patrick Rawson

DAO to 🌍 | 2 | Patrick Rawson

“If you think about it, every DAO can be its own bank. Every DAO can behave as a community credit union, or as an insurance collective of some sort.”

The second episode of the “DAO to Earth” series is on! This time, we receive Patrick Rawson, DAOstack’s Communications Director, for a chat about the historical development of DAOstack’s first DAO, and what is coming next with Genesis 1.0.

We also took a trip down memory lane, remembering some moments we shared during DAOstack’s early days and, even before that, how Pat ended up in the crypto world.

But the juiciest part of this conversation came when Pat shared with us some of the new things coming up within Genesis. The DAO will now accommodate for different types of organizations (and peers), such as:

  • Maker Orgs (blockchain orgs in the ethereum ecosystem. Ex: DAOstack)
  • Funds (purchasing locked GEN from genesis 1.0 to generate reputation for themselves)
  • Community building orgs
  • Dev/Builders. Ex: dOrg)
  • Traditional orgs (governments, nonprofits, corps)
  • Collectives

It will also hold a locked GEN tokens fund, which organizations will be able to support in exchange for voting rights within Genesis 1.0. And watch out for another big DAO launch in the ecosystem - a decentralized exchange bringing $2.5 Mi to fund a DAO.

That and more in this episode!

Luis Cuede | Aragon

“Because I think, today, a lot of the uncertainty around DAOs is that they cannot grow out of their code in their smart contract. And smart contracts don’t know about all human subtleties.”

DAOcast finally features Aragon! We received Luis Cuende, CEO of Aragon One and cofounder of the Aragon Project. We took the time to understand how Luis first got involved with blockchain and the DAO space, going back to his connections to the open source movement. His trajectory took us from the Spanish financial crisis to his discovery of new means for finance through Bitcoin.

The focus of the show was on the recent releases on the Aragon ecosystem, from Aragon 0.8 Camino, to the Aragon Design System. We also investigate possible ways to connect this DAO ecosystem to other ones through Aragon Agent. Finally, we got some updates on the Aragon Network!

Tune in for all of these updates!

In this first episode we receive Eric Arsenault, entrepreneur and self-proclaimed "DAOist" (for his engagement with Genesis DAO, MetaCartel DAO, The DAOfund, and dOrg)

Eric tell us about his personal life and how he arrived at the world of DAOs after funding a successful tech startup. Among other things concerning his experiences with DAOs, we venture into the challenges that new technologies face when trying to bring about change in human behavior. It was then inevitable to reflect on the decentralized space as a whole and whether it is living up to its claims.

Related to that, we brainstorm ways to explain "what is a DAO" to people unfamiliar with this concept and the technology associated with it. And towards the end, Eric tell us about DAOspace, his effort to map the emerging ecosystem of decentralized organizations.

Descriptions can't live up to this first instance of DAO to Earth, so tune in and enjoy the ride.

Max Semenchuk | DGOV | Commons Stack | EthSignals

Max Semenchuk | DGOV | Commons Stack | EthSignals

“Sometimes the biggest value is not in the central node, which has most of the connections, but with the nodes who have unique connections.”

Speaking from Kiev, Ukraine, Max Semenchuk joins us to talk about his involvement with the DGOV Foundation, The Commons Stack, and, as revealed in the show, EthSignals.

Being an entrepreneur, product Manager, UX designer, and Org innovator, Max arrived at the world of decentralized organizations through first-hand experience, when he could no longer tell people what to do in 4irelabs, a start-up he cofounded. He saw in Holocracy a successful way forward, with the world of DAOs just across the corner.

Upon learning more about blockchain and DAOs, he started to initiate the first local meet-ups around these topics, which, although challenging, laid the blueprint for what is now DGOV. And now, a few months later, he has helped to grow the DGOV community to a network of around 500 enthusiasts and practitioners in the field. Some of which are mapped in the DGOV Network map Max has built.

There is no doubt that this ecosystem is currently an important sub-space of the larger DAOs space. So much so that Max and his peers have organize a node (break out room) around dgov & dao topics for 3 days at the web3 summit space, during the Berlin Blockchain Week.

So tune in to check an exploration of the DGOV network map (video available), as well as Max's impressions of BBW, and his activities within The Commons Stack and EthSignals.

Auryn Macmillan | Colony

Auryn Macmillan | Colony

“I can easily see a situation where you can have an informal relationship where, say, an Aragon DAO or a DAOstack DAO holds a pot of funds and basically trickle feed funds into a Colony.”

---

In the first DAOcast episode with Colony, we are joined by Auryn to discuss the public launch of Glider, the project’s network for decentralized organizations.

Auryn also shares his previous experiences with The DAO, given his engagement with that first decentralized experimentation through the creation of DAOHub.

Besides exploring Colony style organization structures and incentives, as well as some aspects of the Colony dApp (coming out soon), we had a very insightful thought experiment on how Colony organizations could be synergistically connected, today, to other DAOs running on other ecosystems, such as Aragon and DAOstack.

For all of these reasons, and more, this is definitely an episode worth checking.

"The key is that, by not trying to claim there's a universal law of social activity, I can actually derive reasonably useful models of a local system."

In what is perhaps the densest DAOcast interview yet, Dr. Michael Zargham, co-founder of BlockScience and co-creator of the Commons Stack, shares his rich perspectives on social systems conceptualization, modeling, and engineering. With a robust academic background, Michael has been doing key work for the world of decentralization way before blockchain was cool (or existed for that matter). And his years as a researcher on robotics and computational social science now provide the basis for his work of design and analysis of complex networks.

We covered a vast ground in our talk, from what possibly defines a DAO beyond the technological infrastructure, to the meaning of the Commons as a cultural underpinning for social coordination, to complex adaptive dynamics computer-aided design (cadCAD). So hop-on and enjoy the view.

Antonio Tenorio, David Loop, and Jordi Burguet | P2P Models

“We are really excited to work on it and to see how far we go bringing the commons and the communities’ perspectives into the blockchain arena.” Antorio Tenorio.

As a 5-year EU-sponsored research project, P2P Models is producing infrastructure for the collaborative economy using blockchain technology, focusing on mainly two aspects.

  • Governance - how decision making, boundaries and conflict resolution are dealt with
  • Value Distribution - how value (in its multiple forms) is created, recognized and shared within collaborative communities.

This endeavor is being conducted with a plural perspective, characterized by the team's diversity, as well as a solid social theoretical grounding, that draws from the work of people like Nobel winner Prof. Elinor Ostrom.

In our chat, we went deeper into the project's early development, its infrastructural choices, digital communities' dynamics and much more. Tune in to learn more about this exciting project and the amazing people behind it.

Raymond D. Powell | CoGov | Holochain

To quick off the second season of DAOcast with max (holo)fuel, we receive Ray Powell, a long time decentralization enthusiast and one of the early developers of Holochain. In this conversation he introduces the fruit of his current work: Cogov, a distributed governance protocol built on top of Holochain. Such a protocol enables very exciting possibilities for self-organization at different scales, specially because of the agent-centric design properties of Holochain.

Of course, we go deeper on our inquiry, imagining what would be possible to achieve when we are powered by technology that allows us to see the flows of exchange (current-see) that permeate the networks we co-create on a daily basis. Thus, better equipping us navigate the exponentially increasing complexity characteristic of our new epoch.

And much much more. And this time we have a video recording as well!

Episode 9 - Felipe Duarte

Episode 9 - Felipe Duarte

> “I think DAOs are attempts at more distributed than centralized organizations. And we need to create a language that can conceive of a spectrum. And we need to create sort of distribution KPIs or distribution perception indexes.”

The last episode of Season 1 is here, and in the Christmas spirit, it brings a gift with it. DAOcast is opening itself up to co-creation. If you're interested, listen to this episode to understand the full context and get in touch ;)

As a painting teacher, facilitator, and "Emotional translator of social realities", Felipe Duarte brought a lot to the mosaic of perspectives we are building here. His past experiences in collaborative processes - which included energizing one of first open houses of Brazil - have a lot to teach anyone interested in participating in a DAO experiment.

In highlighting the importance of Ontology in *co-creative* processes, we had a very fruitful conversation around nomenclature for processes and things in emerging spaces, like the DAO space. More specifically, we talked about Flow Control and Homeostasis in the context of open systems. We also talked about other qualitative characteristics of co-creation, such as "Emotional skin in the game" and "Purpose KPI". And, of course, much much more.

So give this episode a listen and consider interacting with us to co-create DAOcast.

Episode 8 - That should be us (but I'm here to contribute) with Jossbot

> “I don’t know what the DAO is because I don’t see it yet, but my hope is that it will be something that helps us to find the answers here and now, instead of thinking that we will find it elsewhere.” In what is perhaps the craziest and most creative episode of DAOcast, we received the artist and aspiring "DAOpsychic for Imagination Support" Jossbot, which has also become a partner of DAOcast, creator of the imagery used by the show through [KATTFANTASTISKT](http://kattfantastiskt.world/). As a DAOstack pollinator and avid creator, Jossbot shared her takes on the Genesis experiment, exploring with us how the DAO dynamics could evolve as this concept matures and accommodates for different kinds of users. Incorporating the power of Abstraction in our conversation, we managed to explore varied imaginary territories that could aid in the understanding and development of the field, giving life to neologisms and unusual ways to think about DAOs. That, on itself, is enough to give this episode a listen, but if such an exercise doesn't suffice, you might be intrigued to learn what a "DAO as a shinny, 80’s looking like sphere" is. Tune in for that and much more. *This interview was recorded on October 2th, so please take that into consideration when listening to the show.*

Episode 7 - Daniel Shavit & Olivier Sarrouy

Episode 7 - Daniel Shavit & Olivier Sarrouy

> “What I do expect to see is how DAOs will enable a small group of people to enlarge and to scale progressively without losing their spirit.” In this double-DAO episode, we interview [Horatii Partners](http://www.horatiipartners.com/) co-founder Daniel Shavit (also known in the space as @criptodani) and Olivier Sarrouy, Ph.D. in Communication Sciences, Co-founder & tech lead at [ryhopenetwor](https://www.ryhope.network/) & Co-dev of the [Pando protocol](https://github.com/pandonetwork/pando). As one can imagine, this was a very rich conversation. For started, Daniel and Olivier shared their thoughts on the 2018 Berlin Blokchain Week, marked by ETH Berlin and the first decentralized meetup funded through DAOstack's Genesis Alpha. We also explored the Pando Protocol, one of the Grantee projects at Aragon Nest program, learning about how it aims to build infrastructures for decentralized autonomous content. And quite interestingly, we discussed how the ideas of autopoiesis and living systems can serve as powerful frameworks for the development of DAOs. Tune in for that and much more.

Episode 5 - Lucas Tauil de Freitas

> “I feel we’ll the see the creation of guilds, of circles of trust inside the DAOs, pretty much as we have political parties and NGOs on society. So people will create their circles of trust and support one another." What does sailing have to do with decentralized governance and participative culture? It's difficult to say, but one may argue that Lucas' life is the answer to that question. While at the top of his career as a journalist in Brazil, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, which made him consider what it was that he truly wanted to do with his life. Sailing emerged as an answer, but little he knew then where the sea would take him. Tune in to find out how this crazy story goes and to hear Lucas talking about his experiences with flat hierarchies, participative cultures and much much more. Ahoy!

Episode 4 - Cem F Dagdelen

Episode 4 - Cem F Dagdelen

"And I think this is a kind of DAO fantasy, like termites building their house. That is something that really makes me optimistic about it (Genesis)."

Cem's had only one job in his life, which was enough for him to experience the inefficiencies of hierarchical structures in investment banking. So he decided to find not another job, but rather a life passion. And that is how he came across the field of decentralized governance, later co-founding the consultancy Horatii Partners (http://www.horatiipartners.com/).

In this our conversation we cover a lot of ground, from Cem's impressions as one of the first members of the Genesis DAO (powered by Alchemy), to some of Horatti's initiatives, such as its Decentralized Consulting Stack. We also speculate about the evolution of the field of DAOs and ways to keep track of it using network mapping tools like Kumu (https://kumu.io/). Tune in. It's worth it!

Episode 3 - Ezra Weller

Episode 3 - Ezra Weller

> “What’s gonna happen after we leave? It’d be nice to give the guardianship of the project to the community at large somehow. That feels like one the best ways to make sure that the mission of the project continues in the spirit that represents the community.” Coming from an unusual background in the crypto-community (music), Ezra brings fresh perspectives into the world of DAOs. His business, Groupmuse (https://www.groupmuse.com/), has taken him down the path of decentralized governance to investigate, among other things, how communities can be better integrated into the decision making processes of the services they use. From there, it’s no difficult to see how he ended up being involved with blockchain technology. In this conversation we discuss some of the challenges faced by decentralized governance, as well as blockchain technologies in general, what are some of the best environments for DAOs to thrive, strategies for organizations to start transition towards a DAO structure, and, of course, much more.

Episode 2 - Ben Visser

Episode 2 - Ben Visser

"The thing that we envisioned, which is made possible by what I believe a DAO can do, that was not possible yet."

Ben Visser is a researcher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Delft, specializing in Construction Management. During his attempts to catalyze a hydrogen-based tech ecosystem, he's stumbled upon the cultural and bureaucratic barriers currently hindering large scale systemic collaboration.

He sees blockchain technology and DAOs as solutions to these challenges and hopes to use them to enable "meta-companies" - virtual companies built on top of a consortium of other companies and stakeholders. Tune in to understand how such a concept can be applied to the field of construction, facilitating the long-term planing of big projects and maintaining transparency to avoid corruption.
