The Data-Driven Marketer

The Data-Driven Marketer

By NetWise
"The podcast for the modern marketer."

Software is eating marketing. This means that marketing is now as much about data as it is about the creative side. Our hosts, Adam and Brian, have a combined 30 years experience in data, software engineering, and creative marketing. Each week we explore topics, and host guests for conversations, at the intersection of marketing and data.

If you're an engineer with a mind for marketing, a marketer with a mind for engineering, or just a data hound, this is the pod for you.

Come hang out for an hour in the data basement!

Making Meetings Matter: Project Management Software Ft. Cam Fortin
This week, we welcome a fellow NetWiser to The Data Basement. Cam Fortin is the VP of Product at NetWise, a Dun & Bradstreet company. Cam also has the most Instagram followers amongst our team. Therefore, he’s also the most prominent influencer at NetWise. Cam consulted after college to develop his analysis chops before joining Wine.com for a lengthy ten years. He focused on analytics and search before taking over the product function based on a recommendation from the engineering team. Cam fell into product after interrogating things, gathering data, and making decisions for the business—aspiring product leaders, take note. Cam joined NetWise through a friend and now CTO, Brian Jones (yep, an OG on the pod). Fun fact: before the merger with Dun & Bradstreet, All NetWise employees joined via word of mouth. Without further ado, let’s jump into the conversation highlights. Brian’s list of specialties and accomplishments is too long to list, but he’s what you get when mixing a data-driven marketer, developer, engineer, designer, and people leader. Compelling Sales Prospecting (with Data) Ft. Ashley Cummings
Ashley Cummings, Data & Analytics Advisor with Dun & Bradstreet, joined Adam and Mark in the Data Basement to discuss evolutionary changes in sales prospecting with data. Ashely's journey includes significant time in B2B agency sales and iHeartRadio, where she learned to appreciate data-driven sales techniques. To this day, Ashley believes cold calling has a place in your sales strategy if it's connected to significant data sources—people won't despise your outreach if it's related to something they want or need at that time. She revealed her secrets when asked about her success at Dun & Bradstreet. Most importantly, be willing to try the tactics nobody else will. Be silly enough that people can't NOT engage. To succeed in today's crowded world where people receive calls and emails 24/7, sales professionals must stand out thoughtfully. Her examples of uniqueness and using personality to win over a prospect's attention are entertaining and easy to replicate. When asked about her best advice for marketers' working with sales, she emphasized the value of the total addressable market. Together, identify who wants to hear from you; focus your energy on communicating with those people first.
