Episode #18 The Origin of Trek - Crossover episode with Trekking Through Time and Space
Welcome to a special crossover episode of Star Trek, Story, Myth, and Arcs! I always loved it when comic books crossed over. There are entire Star Trek podcast networks so it is no little thing when I say this new pod Trekking Through Time and Space is a favorite. Hosted by film critics Hoai-Tran Bui and Jacob Hall who are two of my favorite film critics who excellent thoughtful pieces on film at the website /Film and I listen to weekly on the /Film Daily podcast.
So even though didn't know me they already felt like old friends when they started a weekly Star Trek and Doctor Who podcast. The idea is HT is new to Trek and Jacob is new to Who. It is a fun formula one Vet and a newbie discovering and teaching each show to each other.
In this episode, we talk about the glory of the first season of Trek and the development of the classic show. I apologize that we forgot to talk about Lucile Ball's role. The most fun part is when we run down the concepts of rejected episodes and Yay or nay them.

Episode #17 In the Writer's Room with Brannon Braga (TNG, Voyager, Enterprise & The Orville)
When I started Star Trek, Story, Myth, and Arcs there were a few dream guests I wanted on the show and Writer/Producer/ Director Brannon Braga is one of them. I recently interviewed him on my other podcast about his underrated Clive Barker adaptation the Books of Blood. I highly suggest you watch that film and check out that interview. Braga is also working on the third season of The Orville and the Fox/Hulu series Cosmos.
In the 50 plus years of Star Trek, many writers added depth to Roddenberry's universe from Gene Coon and DC Fontana to Rick Berman and Alex Kurtzman. For a writer that admits he "was a Twilight Zone kid," it is fair to say few have had the impact on the cannon as Braga. As the writer/creator of 263 hours of Star Trek on Television and two films, Braga was at the keyboard for many of the franchise's fundamental moments. Braga Ended TNG, killed Captain Kirk, crashed the Enterprise D, invented warp drive made the first contact, created Seven of Nine, got Voyager home, took the first Enterprise into space, went to war with the Xindi, and created the temporal cold war that is still driving the storyline of Discovery. In this interview, I try to touch as much of it as I can. Braga talks about writing the TNG finale, the films, creating Seven of Nine, Enterprise, and more. We also get into his current projects including the upcoming season of The Orville.

Episode 15: Star Trek Characters That should Crossover Shows
Seven of Nine's return to Picard! Riker and Troi on Lower Decks! There is a long tradition of the crossover that goes back to the Next Generation's pilot episode when a 100 plus year Admiral McCoy saw off the launch of the Enterprise-D. In this commentary I look at the two crossovers I would love to see in modern Star Trek. Make sure to subscribe to the podcast as we have cool interviews coming up.
So I have no Patreon, I do this podcast all-volunteer but you can support the show by buying my books. If you show me that you got my latest science fiction novel Goddamn Killing Machines and you can request an episode breakdown. Any Trek show your pick!

Episode #16 In the Writers Room with Novelist Una McCormack
On This Episode of Star Trek Story, Myth, and Arcs I welcome Una McCormack. She is a British-Irish academic, scriptwriter, and novelist with a dozen-plus Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Blake 7 tie-in novels to her name. She has been lectured on women in Science Fiction who started writing fanfiction back in the day. Her Deep Space Nine fan fiction was so good she got the job writing Trek for real.
In this interview we nerd out on all things Star Trek before drilling down on Una's excellent prequel to the series Star Trek Picard. In this spoiler-filled discussion, we drill down to her process.

But for a couple of decades now he has written dozens and dozens of Star Trek novels in the Orginal series, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. He wrote a Q trilogy and the back story of Khan.
I had a ton of fun talking about writing Star Trek stories with Greg Cox. More Trek authors to come but enjoy this Trek nerd off.

Episode 12: My Pitch for the 4th Kelvin-verse movie
So it is being reported by a few media outlets that new Paramount pictures president Emma Watts is making a 4th movie in the rebooted Star Trek Kelvin universe. There have been a couple of aborted attempts but so far nothing has been green-lit. So with this episode, I thought I would pitch my idea for a fourth Kelvin universe film. It is just a pitch and not a finished idea. Even a screenplay would get multiple drafts before filming so this has lots of broad strokes - Keep that in mind. The episode starts with my 6 keys to the film, I pitch my story idea and then I have a discussion with a friend who is a big fan of the Kelvin Trek films.
Joining me for this episode is Tom Ranger vocalist of the bands Popular Music and Attitude. He is a long time Trekker and a big fan of the Kelvin movies.
Episode 11: Why Federation is the BEST Trek novel w/ Seth Heasley
In this episode I am joined by one of my favorite Science Fiction, podcasters Seth Heasley. Seth is the Co-host of Take Me to Your Reader and the Hugo’s There podcast. We got together to read and discuss the Citizen Kane of Star Trek novels Federation by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. This mid-90s Trek novel is the favorite of many fans and it is epic in scope. This spoiler-filled discussion breaks down all the elements that make Federation a great novel but superior storytelling to films the films that knocked it out of the canon. We suggest before you read that you watch the TOS episode Metamorphosis (S2 Ep.06) and read Federation before listening to this episode.
I know some Trek fans do not read the novels and this episode can function as cliff notes but the book is so good I suggest you read it.

Episode 10: Star Trek and Horror with Jeff Burk
In this episode, we tackle the subject of horror in Star Trek. Horror is one of my other loves. Ever since I was a kid I loved a movie or book that could scare me. I believe as much as the original series was groundbreaking for Sci-fi I also believe it was also just as influential as a horror show.
Joining me to discuss the topic is Jeff Burk. He is the cult favorite author of SHATNERQUAKE, SUPER GIANT MONSTER TIME, CRIPPLE WOLF, and SHATNERQUEST. His most recent book cult B-Horror movie-style stories was the Very ineffective Haunted House from Clash Books. Burk writes absurd, and funny stories about punks, monsters, gore, that would fit nicely with trashy Troma movies.
He is the head of Section 31 productions and for almost a decade he oversaw the publication of almost a hundred horror novels with the cult press Deadite Press and Eraserhead press where he was the publisher of several of my horror novels.

Episode 9: What Modern Trek Can Learn from the Failed Twilight Zone reboots
Why have the Twilight Zone reboots failed to ignite audiences and what could Star Trek showrunners learn from their mistakes? In this episode,, I look into the history of the two iconic shows and the writers that made them. What crucial ingredient are the modern shows missing out on?

Episode 8: The House of Quark episode breakdown
By request this episode we talk about the writing of a classic Deep Space Nine episode The House of Quark. This was a request by Tony Desimone. It is simple, just tweet at me a proof of purchase/picture of a copy of my latest Novel Goddamn Killing Machines. Then pick any episode and I'll do it. In this episode we talk about how the writer of this episode Ronald D. Moore used writing fundamentals to make a great story. The idea is to learn those lessons for our own stories. Thanks Again Tony!
Episode 7: Interview with The Janeway Collective!
One of the few things I love as much as Star Trek Is my hometown, Bloomington Indiana. I share this home town with the Future Captain of the Starship Voyager Katherine Janeway. Long ago Captain Kirk's hometown put up a monument to honor the character. My guests in this episode made it their mission to make this happen for Bloomington. In this conversation, I am joined by Adam Nahas of Artisan Alley who helped oversee the monument construction, and hardcore Trekkers, Peter, and Mary Beth Kaczmarczyk.
We talk about how they pulled off this project, why Janeway is a great captain, Why Bloomington, is special and the woman who created her Indiana University graduate Jeri Taylor.

Episode 6 : Hardcore Vocalist Trekkers – An interview panel
On this episode of Star Trek Story, Myth and Arcs a long and fun discussion about all things Trek with a very unique panel. Each of my guests was the lead vocalist in hardcore bands, the most intense offshoot of punk rock. This show includes our Trek origins, favorite shows, movies, and Captains. We also debate the Trek movies, the first season of Picard, and much more.
Guests include:
Dan O’Mahony – vocalist of many classic bands like No for An Answer, Carry Nation, 411, Speak 714, Done Dying, and at the moment Shiner’s Club. Dan is also a great writer and he loves the Motion Picture and has the hottest takes of the panel.
Ryan Downey – vocalist of Hardball and Burn It Down. A music and movie journalist Ryan hosts several podcasts including the Metallica podcast Speak and Destroy. Ryan is a total nerd for behind the scene facts.
Issa Diao – Vocalist of DC area sarcastic hardcore legends Good Clean Fun. Issa is also a writer and director and sees more movies in one year than most people do in their lifetime.
Tom 'Red' Ranger - Vocalist of the Syracuse hardcore bands Eternal Youth and Attitude. Currently is fronting a band named Popular Music. He and Issa ould have a posi-off but Tom is one of my best friends and the first person I call after I see a new Trek or Star Wars movie.
Episode 5: Why Disovery Should Have Started on Episode 3!
In this episode, we explore the third episode of Star Trek Discovery. It is my feeling that the series should have started on episode three. There are several storytelling fundamentals that back up that argument. So give this essay episode a spin and let me know – You do you agree or disagree?
Also one correction Avika Goldsman did direct the episode but the script was written by Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts and Craig Sweeny.

Episode 4: Podcast Blackout
I had an episode planned for this week but in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, I dedicate my voice this time to the victims of Police Violence.
Episode 3: In the Writer's Room with longtime Star Trek novel Editor John J. Ordover
This episode of Star Trek Story, Myth, and Arcs I present to you my first interview episode or the First Writer's Room Episode. From 1992 to 2003 John J Ordover oversaw the print-end of Trek CU. We go deep on the creation of several Star Trek mini-series, the frustration of working with the Deep Space Nine twists and turns, consulting with Ron Moore on the Eugenics Wars, and writing two episodes of Deep Space Nine.
