Operation Clusterpuck with Jennifer Rock and Michael Voss
Today on the show I do my first interview with two guests. We all talk about writing and their incredibly entertaining books about life in the corporate world. They took the experience and funny stories they had collected in their years of working with many different corporations and put them together in two great books, with more to come hopefully.  If you have ever worked in an office you need to read these books and listen to this episode.  Operation Clusterpuck tells the funny, cynical but heartfelt story of Business Solutions, Inc. (BSI) — a U.S. corporation whose leaders have set in motion a series of disastrous projects that threaten to take the company down. BSI’s ragtag communications team once again gets pressed into action, juggling around-the-clock workloads, battling ruthless execs, and struggling to find meaning in their lives outside of work.  “We wanted to tell the story of those unsung corporate heroes — the ones who are barely keeping their heads above water, but still do the right thing for their work ‘family,’ even when it’s not easy,” says coauthor Jennifer Rock.  “Readers often tell us they recognize themselves and their co-workers in our novels,” adds coauthor Michael Voss. “We’re thrilled to reflect their work lives and experiences. Even if our stories might feel like a fun-house mirror.” Website: Facebook: Twitter:

Wonder Women of Wine and Champagne with Rob Statham
Today we talk about the amazing wonder women that shaped, changed and influenced the wine and champagne industry and about some of the ones that still are today! • Claudia Harris – first female Master Sommelier, passed exam in 1984. This is no easy feat as it is perhaps the most rigorous service exam to pass in the world. Heavy emphasis was placed on this in the 2012 movie Somms. The Court of Master Sommeliers sadly has been plagued in a cheating scandal since October of 2018.  • Sarah Morphew Stephen (British) became the first female Master of Wine, the highest trade designation for wine studies in the world, and by far, the most difficult came about in 1970 with the successful competition of this very rigorous program. When she succeeded in passing the exam she received a 25-minute lecture from Michael Broadbent, the chairman of the Institute of the Masters Of Wine at the time. This set the course for a number of very successful female masters of wine in today’s modern age. Out of the 369 MWs, 131 are female, some of the most prominent being:  • Jancis Robinson – world class wine critic, writes a weekly column for the Financial Times, provides advice for the wine cellar of Queen Elizabeth II, part of the Order of the British Empire and known for her works on the World Atlas of Wine.  • Debra Meiburg – known for her ground-breaking work on Georgian wines, award winning multimedia wine journalist, wine educator, wine judge and first recipient of the MW title in Asia  • Jeannie Cho Lee - award winning author, TV host, first ethnically Asian Master of Wine, based out of Hong Kong. Also a Master Sake Sommelier.  • Jennifer Simonetti-Bryan – Highly influential in the world of wine with countless media appearances – New York Times, NBC, Wine Library TV. She is also the author of several books and currently runs a business called, which helps students enrolled in internationally recognized certification bodies to succeed with their studies, right up to the Master of Wine Level. Jennifer is  perhaps the most down to earth and engaging personality that I have met at this level. She is a huge asset to the wine world.  Find out more about Rob: Website:  LinkedIn:

Pivoting and Persevering
In today's episode it is not an interview due to a scheduling conflict so I talk about pivoting and persevering  Sam Wise's speech to Frodo in the two towers that I referenced. Frodo : I can't do this, Sam. Sam : I know. It's all wrong By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something. Frodo : What are we holding on to, Sam? Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for. Website:, Instagram: carthoughtswithdavid Twitter: carthoughtsdave

Anything I can do you can do better!
See what I did there? So basically what I am saying is if I can do it so can you. Go out there and stop saying "I'd like to do someday." and say... "I am working on doing right now and should have it available for the world to see in 6 months" Set a goal. Set a deadline. Set a schedule of at least 15-20 minutes a day. Then execute that plan and accomplish your goal. You can do more than 20 minutes but those times are easily found through out the day. Conversation with Jason Jean of Tattered Beans Coffee
Today I had the pleasure of chatting with Veteran and Founder of Tattered Beans Coffee, Jason Jean. Jason Jean was born in Williamsport, PA. His mother and father instilled hardworking, blue collar values in him from a young age. At only 14, he was running his own roofing crew. He played football in high school and used that skill later in college. After an ankle injury playing college football, Jason came back to his hometown. He needed something more, and his dad suggested he join the Air Force. He was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where he was part of the 341stSecurity Forces Group. After suffering a debilitating knee injury, he was honorably discharged a short time later, destroying his dream of being a military lifer.  Once he left the Air Force, Jason’s entrepreneurial spirit finally had a chance to break out. He owned his own construction company, which lead to many great experiences. He has also been involved in various other enterprises, including nightclubs, hotels, alternative lifestyle events, and cafes. He has made it a point to give back to military veterans throughout his businesses, whether that be through helping feed homeless veterans in Central PA at his cafes or giving them a place to stay in a building he owned.  Because of his mission to give back to the veterans he admires, he kept striving to find a bigger way to achieve that. Seeing all the stories about organizations misusing funds that were supposed to go to veterans, Jason knew he had to do something. Why weren’t these funds going directly to veterans? Why is there so much red tape? After doing research on how these non-profits operated, an idea was born. He was in the process of working with a roaster in Lancaster County, PA, to start a coffee line. With so many Americans drinking coffee every single day, why not use that as a vehicle to drive donations directly to veterans?  Tattered Beans is a veteran owned, veteran focused coffee company that gives back directly to veterans. Through their direct donation project, proceeds from each bag of coffee sold goes directly to the veteran or military branch of the customer’s choice. How is that possible? Customers simply go to, select a veteran or military branch, then shop for their coffee as normal. For each $12 bag of coffee sold, $4 is given to the veteran selected. Because transparency is important to Tattered Beans, we want to make it clear that we are a for-profit company that operates on $1 per bag sold. What happens when a customer selects a military branch instead? Tattered Beans then takes that money and gives it to a veteran within the database under that branch that had no donations that month.  One obstacle that Tattered Beans has faced is getting veterans involved. Putting money directly in their pockets is not an easy sell, as not everyone needs, or is willing to admit they need, help. This led Tattered Beans to give veterans options. When submitting their information at, veterans (or their loved ones) have the option to choose if the money goes directly to them, to a veteran they know needs help, or to an organization that is close to their heart. The only requirement for veterans is that they were honorably discharged. Tattered Beans wants to make sure every veteran knows that their service to our country is greatly appreciated. Tattered Beans stands out from the veteran owned coffee company crowd because of their unique direct donation project. Jason Jean, the founder, has made it a mission to make a positive impact in veterans’ lives throughout the country. Tattered Beans has made it a goal to give back $4,000,000 to veterans by the end of 2019. To get involved, head over to and get started. Website: / Instagram & Twitter: @tatteredbeans

As I spend more time focused on the moments and less on the future time seems to be moving more slowly. I feel like I am more aware of what I am doing and what I should be doing. My youngest nephew Ben is writing a book and it is actually pretty good. More to come on that once I learn more about it. Website:

Finding the right career with Stephanie Hall
Today on the show I talk with a good friend I met via LinkedIn Local, Stephanie Hall. We talked about life, careers, boxes, perfection, and books. She helps people figure out what they want to be when they grow up and that is something that I think is really needed with the career landscape shifting.  With graduation fast approaching, I remember thinking one thing: what on earth do I want to do with my life now?  After personally going through the struggle of lacking a career direction and having no clarity in my professional identity, I finally found my calling after going through the YouMap Career Discovery process.   Find out more about Virtus Careers and reach out Stephanie to find that box that fits :)  📧 Email:  📷 Follow us on IG: @VirtusCareers  💻 - Additional Services  Website:

Stay Present in your life and use those moments to change your future!
Being present, being honest, being in the moment can make all the difference in your life. Life is made up of billions of moments and we often see what we would like to have in the future but it is those little changes over time in those moments that allow us to arrive at the future destination.  "Neo, sooner or later you're going to realize just as I did that there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path." -Morpheus, The Matrix Have I got all of this figured out and mastered? No not at all. But what I can tell you is that I see that the way I was living my life was not working to get me to my goals and I realize that different thinking is required to accomplish my dreams. As the world changes and evolves around us it requires us to change and evolve as well. So, stand up and remain strong. No matter how hard it is or how high that mountain top is the reward for going after you dream is worth it.  "Don't think you are, know you are." -Morpheus, The Matrix Also check out my friend Andrada Anitei's book The Man, The Moon, and the Casquette on Amazon at Website:

Changing the recruiting game with Amir Bormand
On today’s episode I interview Amir Bormand he is the Co-founder of Elevano, a California- based recruitment company, who helps hundreds of people find more fulfilling jobs every year. Amir is unique to the recruiting industry because he is a former engineer himself— and could still jot out a few lines of code! He’s seen the technical recruiting game from both sides, and during his engineering career, he constantly saw agency recruiters take shortcuts and use deceptive practices all for their own benefit. That’s why, in his current position as Co-founder of Elevano, he encourages a candidate-centric approach to every aspect of technical recruiting and sales. His overriding desire is to smash the negative stigma left by current recruitment strategies, and replace it with a more transparent, honest and empathetic service offering. When he’s not working, Amir enjoys spending time with his families and traveling. He and his wife have a 5-year-old daughter, who keeps him busy with the latest trends in Disney cartoons... You might just catch him humming Disney movie theme songs! Website:
