S4E01 - 'The Pen Is Mightier Than The Knife' with author Richard Ayre
What better way for Chris to start a new year - and a new season - than going right back to the beginning and welcoming back the first-ever interview guest he ever had - author Richard Ayre.
As well as talking about other things that have happened in their respective lives since they last spoke in summer of 2020, Richard discusses his newest release, Jack The Ripper-inspired crime thriller, 'Shadow Of The Knife'. As you'll find out, his latest offering is far from a re-hash of the infamous Jack The Ripper murder case, but rather a fresh take on events that happened thereafter.
'Show Of the Knife' is available in paperback and eBook formats from all major retailers (including Amazon and Barnes & Noble) as well as directly via the publisher, Burning Chair Publishers.

S3E09 - 'The Art of Something From Nothing' with Singer-Songwriter-Actor-Director-Comedian-Writer, Stuart Davis
Chris closes off the podcast for 2021 with a bang, as he welcomes by far his biggest guest to date!
Stuart Davis is one of the most unique and inspirational songwriters in the world, and has drawn praise and critical acclaim from influential figures worldwide. Amongst them, Chris' own musical idol Ed Kowalczyk (from the band +LIVE+) once described Stuart as 'the greatest lyricist I've ever heard', and philosopher Ken Wilber calls him 'a rare genius'. On top of this, Stuart is a successful writer, artist, director, actor, spiritual practitioner and has even constructed his own language!
It was little surprise that Stuart was one of the artists who played a crucial part at the beginning of Chris' own creative journey, making this interview all the more poignant.
In this episode, Stuart discusses memories of his earliest creative impulses, starting when his father bought him his first guitar and showed him three chords. By the time he was in high school, Stuart had recorded his first album and had sold copies to most of the other students there. Chris also gets to discover more about the inspirations and "stories behind the stories" of a few of his favourite Stuart Davis songs, his impromptu performance with +LIVE+ frontman Ed Kowalczyk and the day Stuart met Kermit The Frog for his own TV series, 'Sex, God & Rock 'n' Roll'.
The end result is one of the most compelling interviews on Dead Men Talk thus far and is certainly not to be missed!

S3E08 - 'Welcome To The Club' with singer-songwriter Maryen Cairns
Chris has the pleasure of speaking to singer-songwriter Maryen Cairns, whose debut single 'Too Young To Die' achieved worldwide acclaim in the 90s.
As well as her early work getting her noticed by FISH from Marillion (which led to Maryen being chosen to provide backing vocals on one of his albums!), her unique and captivating style has continued to attract fans worldwide and has led to many interesting feats, including working on an album with a renowned Rolling Stones producer, playing piano in an extinct volcano crater for a well-known brand's advert, having a YouTube video with over 56k views and living on an unchartered mountaintop!
In this interview, we discuss Maryen's many influences and her incredible journey which has taken her from Australia to London, back again and now to her home in Guernsey. Also hear all about how Maryen is attracting new listeners and keeping in touch with her fan base thanks to her own marketing and dedicated Facebook group, 'The Cairns Club.'

S3E07 - 'The Art of Storytelling' with songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, TV director and film-maker Tom Bliss
'Dead Men Talk' comes full-circle with this latest guest, returning to Chris' passion for delving into the 'stories behind the stories'. Harking back to one of the first folk gigs he attended back in 2007, Chris finally gets to talk to one of the musicians and songwriters that spurred his own desire to write.
Having been a TV director, film-maker, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist - and even his time as a university lecturer - Tom Bliss knows a thing or two about the importance of the use of narrative and storytelling in pretty much all walks of life.
In this episode, Tom joins Chris from his Alderney base to discuss how storytelling has shaped most - if not all - things he has done, in particular his years spent as a musician. Tom delves into the inspirations behind just a few of his songs, including 'The Violin', 'Flotsam & Jetsam' and 'Raven Queen'.
After listening to this episode, please do take the time to go and check out Tom's websites to hear more of his music, view his many videos and keep updated with all of the wonderful work he has been - and continues to be - involved in.

S3E06 - "Danger! It's A Puppet!" with comedy writer and performer Ray Tizzard
Ray Tizzard has worked alongside some of the greats in British comedy and been able to make them laugh, so it is little wonder that this episode turned out to be one of the funniest (and most fun) Chris has done to date!
To many, Ray will be remembered as Joe Pasquale's hapless twin-brother Raynard, who joined him on stage in countless acts of pure comedy genius. Ray was also the hand behind (or beneath!) Larry the Loafer as part of The Brian Conley Show, playing the squeaky sidekick to Conley's Nick Frisbee, calling many a cry of "It's A Puppet!"
Chris not only chats to Ray about his most famous roles but other work he has been involved in (including writing tours for other iconic children's favourites, The Sooty Show and Rainbow!) and a hint at possible projects yet to come!
Don't be a puppet - you simply HAVE to give this one a listen!

S3E04 - 'The Painter of Nuts' with artist Steve Casino
In this episode, Chris welcomes "peanut taxidermist" and toy creator Steve Casino to the show!
As soon as a video of Steve's work landed on Chris' social media news feeds recently, he knew he had to get him on as a guest. Steve is famous for his artwork and has garnered a massive following and national TV exposure in the States. From turning peanuts into well-known characters, to his truly amazing 'pop-out' out on classic games cartridges or even his own fresh take on classic wooden toys, it is safe to say that Steve's talents know no bounds.
We even learn a little more about his 'day job' as a toy inventor, which has even resulted in household-name toys such as Squeakee The Balloon Dog and Hairdorables!

S3E03 - 'The Greatest Story Never Told' with Jonathan Willis & Chris Harris, the founders of the 'House Of Frankenstein' experience
You'd be hard-pushed to find anyone who hasn't at least heard of 'Frankenstein', quite possibly the most well-known gothic horror tale in the world and what is also heralded as the first-ever science fiction story. But how much do you know about the 'story behind the story', and in particular about Mary Shelley herself?
In this episode, Chris has the honour of chatting to Chris Harris and Jonathan Willis, the founders of the all-new immersive experience 'House of Frankenstein', situated in Bath. The first of its kind, 'House of Frankenstein' sheds a whole new light on the classic tale, delving into Mary Shelley's own tragic life and the events that led to her writing the book, as well as celebrating the impact 'Frankenstein' has had on the literary world and pop culture ever since.
Chris and Jonathan discuss the moment which set this project in motion, their own love of 'Frankenstein', their future plans for the attraction and even how they created their own 8-foot version of The Creature, the first time there has been anything like this built using Mary Shelley's own vision!

S2E05 - To Hell & Blackgang (Part Two): 'The Road To Nowhere'
In January 1994, Blackgang was rocked by a major landslide and part of the village fell into the sea. How did Chris take this event and weave it into the Trickerjack's tapestry? The result was the next story that exists in A Necessary End, The Road To Nowhere. Hear Chris explain how and why he drew inspiration from this life-altering event for the villagers and made it fit into his own twisted universe.

S2E04 - To Hell & Blackgang (Part One): 'Passenger 29'
The journey into the stories behind A Necessary End continues with a look at 'Passenger 29'. Join Chris as he discusses how a planned family holiday to the Isle of Wight back in 2016 spurred old childhood memories and a new fascination with the history of the village of Blackgang - in particular the true events of a 19th-Century shipwreck - and in turn set in motion the next chapter of his Courtenay-family's tortured tale.

S2E03 - Welcome to The House...Where Nobody Lives!
Chris recounts how the final part of House of Courtenay came together with the writing of the third and final story, The Killing Floor.
Where did the initial idea or need for this story come from? How and why did he link them to Ummidia and The Trickerjack? And as has become a staple of his work, what silver-screen and personal influences played a part in what this story became by 'the end'?

Be sure to check out 'The Leo Affects' for yourself, and follow Ray on his social media sites to keep up with all his latest news:
