This week on Deaf With The Record Jamie and Ollie discuss arguably the greatest (?) album of the 90s, or at the very least the decade's most lavish and heartbreaking. This week Jamie and Ollie chat about one of the most singular and fascinating musicians of the 20th century. Expect discussions of afrobeat as a genre and how it came to be, Fela's political and musical legacy, why Tony Allen is a god and much, much more.

DEAF WITH THE RECORD IS BACK!

The first episode of Season 2 of DWTR takes a look at perhaps the most seminal album we've covered on the show so far - 'Pet Sounds.' Ollie and Jamie talk over everything The Beach Boys, from their early career to the recording of Pet Sounds, before discussing Brian Wilson's genius, Mike Love's villainy and comparisons with The Beatles.

The tenth and FINAL* episode of Season 1 of Deaf With The Record focuses on LCD Soundsystem's 'This is Happening'.... and finally Ollie and Jamie have cast the webcams aside and are face to face in the same room - it's a Christmas miracle!!  

Over the course of the episode, Ollie and Jamie discuss the ways in which James Murphy plays with the idea of influence and why I Can Change is the best pop song they've ever heard, before re-evaluating the context behind the band's break-up, their final gig and their eventual reformation.

The ninth episode of Season 1 of Deaf With The Record focuses on Cocteau Twins Heaven or Las Vegas, the definitive 4AD masterpiece.  

Ollie and Jamie discuss the unusual circumstances that surrounded the band's formation and how that plays into their distinct sound. They also touch on the sheer euphoria of their music, what this album can tell us about indie music now and to conclude they break down this classic, classic album-cover.

The eighth episode of Season 1 of Deaf With The Record focuses on Joni Mitchell's 1971 masterpiece 'Blue'.  This is a must listen just to hear Jamie restrain himself for 45 minutes from gushing about Hejira and Joni's later 'jazzy' experiments. The boys also discuss some of the more poignant stories behind Joni's songs, as well as her approach to lyricism and the ways in which she has been unfairly compared to her contemporaries.

The seventh episode of Season 1 of Deaf With The Record focuses on Stereolab's space-infused classic Dots and Loops. 

Ollie and Jamie discuss how the music press has attempted to describe (and also deride) Stereolab over the years, before breaking down some of this album's best tracks and then finally putting our Liberal Arts ™ critical theory hats on and waxing lyrical about the band's Marxist politics (when I saw we, I really mean me, Jamie, though you can look forward to lots of quizzical looks from Ollie as I launch into a diatribe about Stan Brakhage before he eventually replies with "err, if you say so lad".)

The sixth episode of Season 1 of Deaf With The Record focuses on Erykah Badu's Mama's Gun. 

Buckle up people because this album is one Jamie and Ollie's favourites. They discuss the collective behind this album's music, Erykah's background as a performer as well as assessing the usefulness of terms like Neo-Soul when discussing her music.

The fourth episode of Season 1 of Deaf With The Record focuses on Daniel Avery's genre-melding debut Drone Logic. 

On this episode, Ollie and Jamie discuss how Avery converted a generation of teenagers to electronic music, how DJing and producing sometimes go hand-in-hand (and sometimes dont!), as well as dissecting the various pitfalls of DJ culture.
