Ontario DECA's Business Baseline

Today, we invited Matthew Price, General Manager of Uber Canada, onto the show to talk about his journey through the world of business and management so far. He founded our sister organization DECA U Canada while studying at Queen's, then went abroad to complete business school at INSEAD and work at Uber Europe's Strategy and Planning department before coming back to Toronto. We dove into his role at Uber, how the company is persevering through COVID-19, and much more. Apart from his career and DECA, we chatted about traveling, why students should go on an exchange program, and he revealed he has visited sixty-five countries as of now!

For today's episode, we invited Katie Rieger on the show, a former DECA Ontario Provincial Officer and DECAU VP of Operations. At the time of our conversation, Katie had just come back from working at Buckingham Palace and was starting a gig as a marketing consultant. We discussed her journey across the Atlantic after graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University and how her experiences in DECA helped land her the opportunity. In addition, Katie provided insightful tips about how to stay motivated when starting off in the business world, and gave us a look into how marketing trends have changed due to COVID-19.

In our second episode of The Business Baseline, we sat down with Rachel Zimmer, a former DECA Ontario Provincial Officer and now a General Manager at Entrepreneur First, a leading global talent investor. We first discussed her journey through entrepreneurship as the ambitious founder of 5Crowd, a marketing freelancer platform. Then, she shared her experiences working at Entrepreneur First, where she finds and develops the next set of successful startup founders. If you are looking to be an entrepreneur, Rachel gives valuable advice on what to expect in the field, the challenges of starting a company, and expert tips on how to succeed. 

In our first ever Business Baseline episode, we invited Jake Jardine in to speak about how DECA truly gives budding entrepreneurs a head start in their careers through the lens of a past Provincial Officer and President of both DECAU and Collegiate DECA. He describes his experiences working in digital marketing and how the space is ever changing to accommodate for social media. In addition, we discussed the newest advertising trends, choosing the right career path, the Nike Swoosh, and Elon Musk, obviously. 

A sneak peek into DECA Ontario's newest venture: podcasting! In this show, we, the Provincial Officer Team, will sit down with special guests from the world of business, entrepreneurship, marketing, etc. to provide insight into industries and corporations. We will also check in on successful and esteemed DECA Ontario alumni to find out what role DECA played on their professional lives.
