35. What are endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), why are they dangerous and how we can avoid them ft. Jenna Hua

In this week’s episode, my special guest is Jenna Hua, RD, MPH, Ph.D. registered dietitian, environmental health scientist, CEO and founder of Million Marker.

Jenna's past research has focused on how our surrounding environment impacts our behaviors and health. An ardent believer in disease prevention, she wants to provide personalized preventive strategies to everyone to lead a healthier life.

Jenna’s extensive experience as an academic and health advocate led to her founding Million Marker in 2019, shortly after completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Stanford University’s School of Medicine. Throughout her career in academia, Jenna has researched and published numerous studies that largely focused on citizen’s science, general health, and the impact of food consumption on a person’s well-being.

In one of her most recent publications, Jenna used machine learning to identify people based on food consumed in order to offer healthier food options. She also published another report that studied the arsenic exposure and risks of eating rice among adolescents in Kunming, China. Jenna has been a Project Manager for UNC’s Carolina Population Center, a Graduate Instructor and Research Assistant at UC Berkeley, and a Project Manager at UCLA’s Center for Population Research. She was also a US Fulbright Fellow at the Institute of International Education in Kunming, China. Jenna holds a BS in Nutrition and an MPH and Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from UC Berkeley.

11. The Mental Health And Social Benefits of Altruism

11. The Mental Health And Social Benefits of Altruism

In this week’s episode, my special guest is Natasha Rowsell.

Natasha is a super mom of two, loving wife, talented creative, professional dancer, speaker, thought leader, teacher and preacher. She holds a bachelor degree in Theology majoring in Youth Ministries from Master’s College and Seminary and has a passion to serve the next generation of teens.

She’s on the show to talk about the mental health and social benefits of altruism.

According to WELL Standards:

“Research demonstrates beneficial health and wellness outcomes associated with acts of generosity and charity. Volunteering fulfills many functions, providing a way for individuals to express their values, strengthen social relationships and gain career-related experience. The Mental Health Foundation states that helping others increases social support by increasing feelings of belonging, while decreasing feelings of isolation and loneliness. For these reasons, altruistic sentiments and behaviours are increasingly incentivized within the workplace.”

Listen in on how you can alleviate stress through the act of altruism.

4. What's The Difference Between an Interior Designer vs an Interior Decorator

Here we go! The question “everyone” wonders are, what’s the difference between interior design and interior decorating? First off, I want to say that Interior Decorating is a trade of its own. Decorating and design can sometimes overlap but they are fairly different.

The © 2019 Council for Interior Design Qualification, Inc. expresses the Full Definition of Interior Design as this:

Interior design is a distinct profession with specialized knowledge applied to the planning and design of interior environments that promote health, safety, and welfare while supporting and enhancing the human experience. Founded upon design and human behaviour theories and research, interior designers apply evidence-based methodologies to identify, analyze, and synthesize information in generating holistic, technical, creative, and contextually-appropriate design solutions. Interior designers contribute to the interior environment with knowledge and skills about space planning; interior building materials and finishes; casework, furniture, furnishings, and equipment; lighting; acoustics; wayfinding; ergonomics and anthropometrics; and human environmental behaviour. Interior designers analyze, plan, design, document, and manage interior non-structural/non-seismic construction and alteration projects in compliance with applicable building design and construction, fire, life-safety, and energy codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines for the purpose of obtaining a building permit, as allowed by law.

Are you wondering what's the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator? Listen in as I'm interviewing a talented corporate designer / interior decorator. She is giving us insights into her education path and post-education experience.
