He sits on the North American Fiqh Council, is a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and sits on the advisory board of the Political Theologic Network. His writings have appeared in the New York Times, and he has been on CNN, NBS, al-Jazeera, CBS and more. He runs an online school that focuses on functional religious literacy for English-speaking Muslims and currently serves as the Resident Scholar at Center DC in Washington DC.

Harvard trained and board certified in General Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Integrative Medicine, she is currently Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona. She is co- founder of the Integrative Psychiatry Program at the UA, while also serving as Faculty with The Center for Mind-Body Medicine and the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Her research focuses on training the next generation of psychiatrists to offer a holistic approach to mental health, while serving children and families most in need. As a Robert Wood Johnson Culture of Health Leader, she continues to expand her work in integrative mental health and in working with the underserved, particularly with American Indian communities as well as other indigenous communities internationally. Kirthi Jayakumar is a feminist researcher and lawyer from Chennai, India. She founded and runs The Gender Security Project, one of the few WPS centres in the global south, which works at the cusp of gender, security, peace, and conflict through research, reportage, and documentation. Kirthi coded an app for survivors of gender-based violence called Saahas, which works as a web and mobile app. She taught herself to code and created a web app, a mobile app and a Facebook ChatBot to support survivors of gender-based violence across 196 countries, and to assist bystander intervention. Her areas of interest include gender studies, peace and conflict research, security studies, and international human rights and humanitarian law. Kirthi was a Commonwealth Scholar at CTPSR, Coventry University and graduated with an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies. She also holds an MA in Sustainable Peace in a Contemporary World from UPEACE and a BALLB (Hons.) from SOEL, Chennai. She also formerly founded and ran the Red Elephant Foundation, a civilian peacebuilding initiative that works for gender equality through storytelling, advocacy and digital interventions. Originally from Madrid, Spain, Carlos has been steeped in all aspects of the yoga tradition during more than 40 years of practice and study. He spent 18 of those years as a monk of the Saraswati order, under the name Swami Gitananda, including 9 years of traditional training and practice in India. During this time he learned the various systems of Indian Philosophy and immersed himself in the practice of yoga, becoming one of the senior monks of the tradition and teaching meditation and philosophy to tens of thousands of students around the world. He combines this experience and traditional training with his academic background, which includes two Masters Degrees: one in Sanskrit, from U.C. Berkeley (where he has taught) and another one, in Religious Studies, from U.C. Santa Barbara. He is currently working on a book on the topic of “Karma and the Journey of the Soul”, as well as an updated History of Yoga and a new translation of the Śivasūtra, an important Tantric text of the Kashmiri tradition .

As a teacher, Carlos is renowned for the breadth of his knowledge and the clarity with which he conveys it. His great love of the Indian yoga traditions, his insight, his humor and his deep connection with his audiences give him the ability to transmit the deepest scriptural teachings in a way that is clear, meaningful and applicable.
