Martin was diagnosed with T1D in 1954 at the age of 5. Martin is a radio presenter on Radio Marsden; a registered charity run by volunteers, broadcasting to and supporting cancer patients at the Royal Marsden Hospitals in London. Martin has seen huge technological advances in diabetes and in this episode of guest speaker chats Martin shares some of his tech stories since he was diagnosed including: Syringes, MDIs, pumps and the various ways of checking his blood glucose levels. Martin is a passionate diabetes advocate on twitter and has his own website and blog. He is also the co-founder of a WhatsApp community group for fellow #t1warriors who are on Insulin pumps and and looping. Jaimie Boisvenue is an epidemiologist specializing in chronic disease and health services research. In 2009 he completed a biological sciences diploma followed shortly by a Bachelors degree in Technology and Health Management at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. In 2019 he completed his Masters degree in Epidemiology and Public Health with a focus on metabolic syndrome, a clustering of risk factors said to contribute to the development of chronic disease. He is now working to complete his doctorate in epidemiology in the School of Public Health at the College of Health Sciences, University of Alberta. His current research focuses on using mixed methods to understand the Albertan type 1 diabetes lived experiences and how those experiences can be leveraged to improve clinical practice. Throughout his career, Jamie has previously worked in cardiovascular sciences looking at understanding heart failure and small models for mircro-surgical research before switching gears to diabetes. He holds several awards for his work in type 1 diabetes research including fellowships in Knowledge Translation from Diabetes Action Canada, Research Excellence from the Alberta Government, and Patient-Oriented Research from Alberta Innovates SPOR platform as well as several scientific publications in the realm of basic and clinical sciences. Amelia started as a nurse on the diabetes/cardiovascular ward in 1994, became a DSN at a hospital for 10 years, has completed her Masters degree in advanced clinical practice and is now a clinician care lead and primary care clinical executive for the Black Country West Birmingham clinical commissions group for diabetes, since 2021. Gurpreet's background masters is in Pharmacy, undertook a prescribing role as a pharmacist in secondary care at Sandwell and West Birmingham before moving from hospital pharmacy to the Black Country Birmingham clinical commissions group in 2016. She is also a lecturer for the university of Worcester. Mandy is 22-time US National Champion, 3-time American Record Holder and Olympic Hopeful. Mandy learned to ride a bicycle at the age of 10 and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 16 years old.
