Aging in Place with Senior Living Designer Lisa Cini
Welcome to the Silver Disobedience® Podcast!
Many of us would like to age in place -- meaning in the very home we are now currently living. Some of us will be caregivers for aging parents or others who may be joining us in our homes or elsewhere. Some people will be aging well -- yet this does not mean without normal aging challenges. Others of us may be coping with cognitive decline, memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer's -- as well as potential mobility issues.
During this podcast, Lisa Cini, a senior living design expert, shares some truly excellent ideas about how any of us might consider gradually making our homes safer for more practical living starting right now, as well as how me might want to consider complete overhauls for now or in the future.
In addition to this podcast, if you'd like to learn more about Lisa, you can find more info on any of these channels.

Ginni Conquest: Mega Modeling Agent by Day - Romance Writer by Night
Welcome to the Silver Disobedience! I'm Dian Griesel your host. My guest for this episode is Ginni Conquest, Senior Agent at Wilhelmina Models for 40 years and a prolific writer of romance novels! In this podcast, Ginni will share how she balances her life and her process to get it all done!
Born in New Jersey, Ginni found her love of writing romance stories a few years ago. With a bit of intrigue, scandal, conflict and love, she enjoys creating these sweet and sexy stories that her readers can identify with. Ginni attributes her younger years of reading Harlequin romance books for putting her on the path she is on now.
Song of the Heart: The Beginning, and the next five books in this series, come from her love of music while singing in her own original rock band in New York City in the late 80s and early 90s. It’s been a dream of Ginni’s to write a Rock Star Romance series where she can call upon her own experiences of what it takes to be in a rock band. Her book “Unlawful Love” MC Club Romance book was one of the stories featured in the “Locked Up/Lawyered Up” Anthology Series through TNT/NYC. Teaming up with Amazon Best Selling Author Barbara Nolan, both writers supplied “crossover” stories which are now published as standalone novels through Amazon. Ginni’s Christmas story, “Believe and It Will Happen,” was part of another Anthology Series, “Mistletoe Over Manhattan,” that made the Amazon Best Seller Anthology list in Australia and Canada. Celebrating her 40th Anniversary as Senior Agent at Wilhelmina Models in NYC, Ginni juggles her writing time in the evenings and weekends. She resides in New Jersey with her husband and adorable Basset Hounds, Sammy and Jameson. She loves motorcycle riding, Cape May and 80s hard rock, especially KISS, Foreigner, Queensryche and Pat Benatar.

Attaching Ourselves to What is Spiritually Superior
Spirituality is typically seen as a personal journey of self-discovery, growth & connection to something greater than oneself. Once sense of spirituality may or may not be connected to a particular religion. People often speak about becoming “more” spiritual. Today, I’d like to discuss the idea of not becoming spiritually superior, but rather attaching ourselves to those ideas and actions that are spiritually superior.
In this podcast, I’ll break this down into two concepts. I hope you enjoy it!

Why So Many People Have Contrasting Perspectives
Do you ever wonder, "Why can't we just all get along?" It is a normal question to ponder. I do think getting along better is possible. Yet, to begin to get along better with others requires us to try to understand "where they are coming from" or their perspectives.
In this 12 minute mini-podcast, I break down a single common situation -- but share the perspectives of all parties concerned. From this -- you'll be better able to see where our differences arise on the most basic levels.

Why "Continued Influence Effect is THE Most Important Phenomenon to Recognize
One of my favorite things to observe and study is the phenomenon called the “continued influence effect” which is where misinformation or misleading information continues to influence people's beliefs & judgments even after the misinformation has been corrected or debunked. CIE highlights the lingering impact of false or inaccurate information on individuals' thoughts and subsequent decision-making processes. I think societally this has accelerated.
This is one of my longer podcasts -- but I think it may be one of the most important I'll ever record. In under 20 minutes I will explain how continued influence effect (CIE) impacts you and how you see the world. I'll also share strategies to develop greater critical thinking, as well as exercises you can test to help you understand the motivation behind holding onto conscious and unconscious perceptions that we hold near and dear -- even if they involve faulty, outdated thinking.

Listen to this podcast and in less than 4 minutes -- I'll explain a bit about intention and how you can validate yours!

How Playing "the Blame Game" is really Self-Criticism in its Worst Form
Do you blame others for things going wrong in your life? Be honest. It's a big temptation and we all do it to some degree or another. But we also know: It doesn't feel good. Blaming is always following by needing to apologize and hoping that our outburst is forgotten. So why do we do it? Blaming others is actually a serious sign of how self-critical and unloved we feel. In this episode, I'm going to share thoughts on the blame game; why we do it; and most importantly: what we can do to stop.

Who's in Charge of Your Opinions?
Are you your own authority figure? Do you make your own decisions -- and more importantly -- do you own the results (or consequences and responsibilities) of your choices and decisions?
Being your own "Authority" figure is a big marker of being a maturity and maturity is not an age-dependent factor. Maturity can develop at any age -- and it starts with taking responsibility.

Re-Actions
Do you re-act? When we find ourselves instantly & defensively reacting to a comment often this is because we are pulling information from old memory files. Instead of being present in the brand new moment -- that while it may feel familiar, is still actually a wholly new moment -- we "re-act" drawing on unconscious feelings gathered from past situation. This 3m14 sec. mini-podcast explores this.

Why You MAY Want to Subscribe to the Silver Disobedience® Podcast
It seems to me that throughout our lives, we are either told to “act our age” or we spend time worrying about “becoming our age.” What’s up with our cultural issues regarding aging? Why don’t we just relax, welcome and embrace the benefits of the years we have lived? Good question! I think it is due to the socialization processes that we all go through from the day we're born. We're told what to do, how to do it, when to do it and more -- and we're often left doubting ourselves and worrying about if we're doing life right. This leads to all kinds of worries, anxiety & confidence issues.
The goal for each of my essays—on this podcast, in my books and on my daily blog—has remained constant: By sharing what my readers view as “practical, relatable yet challenging thoughts,” perhaps others can engage with my musings and find them to be comforting as we explore our connectedness and release many of the feelings of “aloneness” that we all grapple with to one degree or another throughout our lives. This dream has been realized beyond my wildest imaginings, thanks to the willingness of the hundreds of thousands who participate in a daily conversation on my website and social media accounts. The comments following each Silver Disobedience blog are as insightful and honest as I hope each of my essays is. This mutual dialog continues to be immensely heartwarming and underscores the joys of unanticipated “aging” consequences. Clearly, there is a collective desire to understand ourselves, our responsibilities and our relationships—including our desire to confront our differences in constructive ways instead of simply holding on to the need to be “right.” The ongoing conversation confirms that the essence of “Who we are” doesn’t change very much as we age—yet, we appear to believe wholeheartedly that each year has helped us to become better in myriad ways.
I hope you'll enjoy this video/podcast!

Friendships: The Many Kinds and Value of Each
There are many kinds of friendships that we will develop throughout our lives -- from acquaintances, casual, work, close, social and besties. All of our friendships are important and they each have the ability to fulfill our different needs for human connection. Yet, it is very important to understand the differences between our varying friendships because much like most relationships, they are rarely one-size-fits all. IF we believe otherwise, we may be putting too much pressure on the relationship which might cause us to lose it or feel otherwise disappointed.
