Dialects with Die Zeitung: An Interview with Eric Wagner
Welcome to a new episode of Die Zeitung's podcast. In this episode, German Editor Meredith Lemke interviews her neighbor and family friend, Eric Wagner for a discussion about dialects in Germany. Specifically, Eric teaches Meredith about Saarländisch which stems from the German state of Saarland. They explore a variety of topics regarding Saarländisch- from favorite phrases and idioms to cultural perceptions and prejudices to a Saarländisch-speaking bird of paradise!
For our German language learning listeners, this episode is spoken almost exclusively auf Deutsch, but we at Die Zeitung hope you will given listening to it a shot to learn about the wonderful world of German dialects.

In today’s podcast, we are going to investigate some questions. Is the n-word more acceptable in Germany? If so, why, especially since Germany has such strong hate speech laws? What is going on with the status of the n-word in Germany right now? We are then going to hear from Elizabeth, she’s an American who lived in Germany for a year, and she is going to talk about some of her experiences regarding hearing Germans use the n-word.
