Department of Metal Antiquities 154: Bruce Dickinson - Skunkworks
In 1996, Bruce Dickinson, yes THE Bruce Dickinson, created a new band and released a record. Originally, the band was to be called Skunkworks, but the record company would not take it.
What we have here is a post grunge laced album by Dickinson and crew.

In the late 80's, a band named Bang Tango burst onto the scene and made some hay. Unfortunately, they arrived as the party was ending.
After some ins and outs and stops and starts, Bang Tango gave way to Beautiful Creatures.
That's what Nik and Duncan are taking on today!

Today, Nik and Duncan took on the last album by Black Sabbath proper that they'll be doing on this podcast.
Of course the wellspring that is Heavy Metal sprouts at all things Black Sabbath.
This is the third album featuring the seventh vocalist in Black Sabbath's history, Tony Martin.

Department of Metal Antiquities 141: The Damage Manual with Brandon Ringo of Mammoth Caravan
Here's where things get a little bit strange. Back in the late 90's, there apparently was a meeting that very nearly created a revival, not reunion, of what was once considered to be Public Image Ltd, but Johnny Lydon wouldn't do it.
So, instead we got The Damage Manual featuring Martin Atkins of PIL, Chris Connelly of Ministry on vocals, Geordie Walker of Killing Joke on guitar, and Jah Wobble of PIL on bass.
What could've been right?
But the DMA didn't miss the mark, we were lucky enough to have Brandon Ringo of the Little Rock, AR sludge doom metal band, Mammoth Caravan, join us to give his thoughts on the record.

Terry Glaze, the voice of Pantera on their first three independent albums meets with Chris Craig and Barney Wolfe, both formerly of Black Oak Arkansas, and they along with guitarist, Jimmy Rusidoff, they create a brand new hair metal band that's equal parts Rolling Stones, Exodus, Beastie Boys, and Poison.

DMA 139: "Beautiful Disease" by Duff McKagan
In the greatest heavy metal cartoon of all time, Murderface referred to himself as the Lead Songwriter for Dethklok. Honestly, how often is that kind of thing really true?
Well, today's album is what happens when the bassist of a band fully takes on a Lead Songwriting role.
Now, as this is truly on brand, this might be the most forgotten album we have ever covered, because it was only released on an advanced copy for reviews and radio play.
There has never been a commercial release.

Before the reformation of Carcass, there was a project that brought together many different metal musicians. Jeff Walker seemed to call his entire roladex of metallers. Including members of Napalm Death, Him, other members of Carcass, Cradle of Filth, Anathema, and Faith No More!
So, when you have this esteemed group of players from legendary metal bands, he did exactly what everybody would have wanted, he released a covers album of classic country and Americana songs.

After the demise of Deep Purple, and before the reformation of Whitesnake, Ian Paice, Jon Lord, and Bernie Marsden join with future Black Sabbath bassist, Neil Murray, and little known lead singer, Tony Ashton, and form a super group of proto metal pioneers.
What they came back with was a bit different than what any one was expecting.

This is a weird episode frankly. We're talking about Punk Rock Royalty, Johnny Lydon, teaming up with world's greatest stunt guitarist, Steve Vai, who's played with Zappa, David Lee Roth, etc, a recluse drum god, Ginger Baker, and the efforts of a stalwart producer and bassist, Bill Laswell.
The idea of Johnny Rotten working with confirmed virtuosos and allowing them to do their funky stuff is mindbending.

In the middle of 1996, Tony Iommi reunited with his old friend, Glenn Hughes, late of Deep Purple, Trapeze, and uh..Black Sabbath to make a brand new "solo" album. Unfortunately, the album, which in bootleg circles, would come to be known as The 8th Star, would be shelved for nearly a decade.
In 2004, this record finally saw the light of day. This week we are joined by Steve Scavuzzo of Clouds Taste Satanic to discuss this forgotten LP in our quest to spin it or bin it!
