Running Across The United States In 52 Days (59 Miles A Day): The Remarkable Story Of Paul Johnson

Running Across The United States In 52 Days (59 Miles A Day): The Remarkable Story Of Paul Johnson

Less than 400 people have ever completed the Transcontinental Run across the United States.

Recently, Paul Johnson became one of those people, and one of the fastest to ever do it, completing the trek in 52 days and averaging 59 miles a day (yes, you read that right.)

Paul is passionate about inspiring others to get up, engage in physical activity, and find their own positive outlets. Paul discovered that military and veteran communities are particularly prone to struggles with mental health due to the nature of everything they do and experience, and because of this, Paul dedicated this trans con run to Team Red White & Blue. He raised over $590,000 for this important cause.

In today's conversation, Paul takes me through his journey and progression within the sport, the logistics behind planning a trans con run, how he preserved despite wanting to throw in the towel every single morning, what's next, and so much more!

Man, was this conversation inspiring. One of the things that Paul shared with me that struck me was how, just a few years ago, he felt like his body was "literally going to fall apart running 30 miles a week," to then averaging 59 miles a day on this run. His story is one of dedication and the power of running for something bigger than yourself.

An Open & Honest Conversation On The Ups & Downs Of The Sport Of Running With Saucony Pro Vanessa Fraser

Back on the podcast for her third appearance is the wise Vanessa Fraser!

A lot has happened in the past year for Vanessa and we break it all down in today's conversation.

Many professional runners talk about the importance of vulnerability in sharing the tougher moments of their careers, but very, very few do it. Vanessa is one of the few I know who is completely open about her full journey, and that always makes our conversations so insightful.

If you're not familiar with Vanessa, she holds PRs of 4:09 in the 1500m, 14:48 in the 5k, and 31:52 in the 10k. In college, she was one of the most storied runners in Stanford history, where she was a 7xAll-American, and her school record of 15:09 in the 5k still stands.

Vanessa currently runs for Saucony and Team BOSS.

In today's conversation, we discuss the brutal realities of running at a high level, the ups and downs of Vanessa's career, her new deal with Saucony, her ambitions for the future, and much more!

From 17:52 In The 5k To State Champion & 4:02 Miler In ONE YEAR: The Story Of Riley Smith - The Most Underrated Boy In The Country

From 17:52 In The 5k To State Champion & 4:02 Miler In ONE YEAR: The Story Of Riley Smith - The Most Underrated Boy In The Country

Today on "The Call Room: Road To Seattle" is the most underrated boy in the country, Riley Smith.

Y'all ask, we deliver. After months of requests to get this guy on, we're making it happen.

I'm going to be honest, I hadn't heard Riley's name until a few months ago, but already in the first few weeks of the track season, he's made a name for himself and is looking to shock some people in the months to come.

He's undefeated this indoor and outdoor season and is looking to continue that streak.

His progress in the sport has been monumental. His best 5k his junior year of HS was 17:52, not even qualifying for the state meet. A year later, he won the whole thing and ran 14:57.

So far this season, Riley has run 8:39 in the 3200m and 1:50 in the 800m. The scary thing is that 3200m was Riley's second-ever attempt at a distance. As you'll hear in our conversation today, Riley knows he can go sub 8:30 this year.

Riley will be going to his first Brooks PR Meet in 2024 and is currently deciding between the Mile/2-Mile. Whichever event he chooses, he's looking to surprise some people and turn some heads.

In today's conversation, Riley shares his remarkable story in sport, how he's gotten good so fast, being the underdog, letting the doubters fuel him, his ambitions for his final year of HS, what he wants to do at Brooks, some of his most insane workouts, and much more!

This is an awesome opportunity to look into the mind of a kid who's name you'll hear a lot of in the months and years to come.

From Alcoholism To A Life Of Fitness & Purpose: How Tommie Runz Is Using His Story To Inspire Millions

From Alcoholism To A Life Of Fitness & Purpose: How Tommie Runz Is Using His Story To Inspire Millions

Today on the podcast is the one and only Tommie Runz!

"Tommie Runz" was born in New York in August 1984. Growing up, Tommie was raised in Detroit and Southfield, Michigan. In 1993, at the age of 8, he lost his father to a stroke, leaving his mother with the burden of raising him and his sister alone. Tommie's mother made things work and raised them in a loving and hardworking home. However the pain, heartache and trauma of losing his father made way for the inability to comprehend his emotions as a young man. At 17, he took his first drink and found the relief he was searching for in alcohol. The lack of healing in Tommie's life created the perfect recipe for bad decisions, seemingly one after the other.

On January 11, 2017 he chose a life of sobriety. This is when Tommie's journey into fitness and health began. His new found sense of freedom, control, and wellbeing ultimately led Tommie to try veganism in February 2018. A few months later, his running journey began when he was challenged to run the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in Chicago. To this day, sobriety, veganism and mindfulness play a vital role in who he is as a human and a runner.

Since his introduction into running in 2018, Tommie has established and solidified a community of individuals who share the same passion in running, mindfulness, and self-improvement. He created and founded Chip Time Running to disrupt the current status quo in the running industry; began a podcast and live show, The Run Eat Sleep Show; and launched the PR Project on YouTube, where he sits as co-host. In April 2021, he qualified for the Boston Marathon with a chip time of 2:48:43.

In today's conversation, Tommie takes me through his incredible story from the start to the present day. We dicuss the different elements of his story and how he's using it to impact lives around the world. I really loved this conversation!

A Wholesome Conversation With The Fastest Twins In The Country: Inside The Journey Of Olivia & Andrea Markezich

A Wholesome Conversation With The Fastest Twins In The Country: Inside The Journey Of Olivia & Andrea Markezich

Today on the podcast are the fastest twins in the country, Olivia & Andrea Markezich!

Olivia placed 3rd at the 2023 NCAA XC Championships in Charlotte, Virginia, a few months ago. That incredible performance led her team to a 4th place finish! This was also one week after coming down with sickness. A few week short weeks later, she opened up the indoor season with a time of 8:40.42 in the 3k, breaking her own school record which was previously set last season as she ran an 8:50.08. Her time of 8:40.42 also ranks #2 all-time! Last year, Olivia won the 3000M steeplechase at the 2023 NCAA Championships with a remarkable time of 9:25.03, setting a facility record at the University of Texas. Olivia also signed an NIL Deal with On last year.

Andrea placed 35th at the 2023 NCAA XC Championships in Charlotte, Virginia, a few months ago, gaining All-American status and helping her team place 4th overall! Before her time at the University of Notre Dame, she ran for UW and was the 2023 Pac-12 10,000m Runner-Up, a part of the 2023 All-America Second Team in the DMR, and in 2022 All-Pac-12 Second Team XC. This Fall, Andrea will be working at Dell Technologies as an Emerging Technologies Specialist in the NGSA Program!

Before their time in college, Olivia and Andrea pushed each other consistently on and off the course, helping each other make it to where they're both at today. They re-joined forces this past year when Andrea transferred to Notre Dame to close out her NCAA eligibility (under the condition from Olivia that she dye her hair blonde - more on this in the podcast).

Today's conversation is the definition of wholesome. Two twins chopping it up on their journey in sport and life, and how they've pushed each other through it all. This episode is the perfect mix of serious and insightful while also being incredibly fun and lighthearted.

Today on the podcast is Brooks Bash!

Brooks is an athlete, entrepreneur, and founder of Earthy, a company revolutionizing sustainable energy for athletes.

Brooks is currently in the midst of raising capital for his company, and until he hits his goal, he's doing a marathon a day... He was on day 88 when I spoke to him. Some days have been around LA, others in the Apple Vision Pro or on a treadmill in the back of a van while his wife drives (yes, he's insane).

A lot of our conversation centers around this incredible feat; he shares all sorts of tales from this challenge and the ways in which it's tested and grown him.

Brooks has also run from Canada to Mexico and is currently preparing for "The Speed Project," one of the most exciting events where people run from LA to Las Vegas.

Today's conversation was an absolute blast; I enjoyed talking with Brooks and chopping it up on his journey through life and this current chapter. This is a really fun conversation that is perfect for your next run or adventure.

The Power Of Friendship: How Teammates Have Propelled Nathan Green To Great Heights | An Inside Look At The NCAA Champ's Journey

Today on the podcast is NCAA Champ Nathan Green!

Nathan was the 2023 NCAA Outdoor 1,500m Champion as well as the 2023 Pac-12 1,500m Champion. He's a 4xAll-American through his efforts indoors and out. He placed 7th at the US Championships in the 1500m this year. Back in 2022, Nathan became the U.S. Junior 1,500m Champion.

Nathan holds PRs of 1:46.99 in the 800m, 3:36.29 in the 1500m, and 3:52.76 in the Mile.

In high school, Nathan was one of the top recruits in the country, rated the No. 1 recruit in the nation by MileSplit. He was a five-time Gatorade Idaho Athlete of the Year and a nine-time Idaho State Champion. He set the Brooks PR Invite mile record in 2021 with a time of 4:01.76 … just 24 hours after the Brooks PR win in Renton, Wash., traveled to Hayward Field in Eugene and won the Nike Outdoor Nationals mile title for two national Mile wins in two days. He set a mile PR of 4:00.97 at 2,700 feet of elevation.

In today's conversation, Nathan and I document his journey in the sport, the unknown culture of UW, how much that culture and friendships mean to him, the power of friendships, winning NCAAs, his future ambitions in the sport, and so much more!

The Inside Scoop With 2xOlympic Medalist, World & US Champion Gabby Thomas | Her Unique Journey, What It Takes To Be Great, Racing Sha'Carri, 2024 Hopes & More

The Gabby Thomas Special is here!

Today's episode is my favorite episode we've ever recorded. Gabby's willingness to go deep on a plethora of subjects made this one next level. Gabby has accomplished so much in the sport, so to have the opportunity to have a long-form conversation with her was a privilege and an honor.

For those who aren't familiar with her:

Gabby is a 2xOlmypic Medalist (2021 Olympic Bronze medalist in the 200m & Silver medalist in the 4x100m Relay).

Gabby was the 2023 USATF Champion in the 200m and the 2021 US Olympic Trials Champion in 200m as well.

She most recently secured Silver at the 2023 World Championships in the 200m and Gold in the 4x100m relay.

Back in 2018, Gabby won the NCAA Indoor Championship in the 200m while representing Harvard. While at Harvard, Gabby studied neurobiology and global health as an undergraduate. She later got her Master's Degree in epidemiology from UT Austin.

Gabby holds PRs of 11.00 in the 100m, 21.69 in the 200m, 35.73 in the 300m, and 49.68 in the 400m.

Today's conversation was second to none. We cover so many things, from Gabby's journey in track to coffee to what it takes to be the best in track and field. We also discuss 2024, her being a part of the upcoming Netflix series on track, competing against Sha'Carri Richardson, and so much more!
