Who Was the First Woman Condemned to the Electric Chair in GA?

Who Was the First Woman Condemned to the Electric Chair in GA?

After a couple months hiatus we return with our good friend Jodi McDaniel Lowery and talk about her first book EULA: The First Woman in Georgia to be Sentenced to the Electric Chair. (Check out first interview with her here).

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Eula was born an Elrod but used several last names during her tumultuous life, some legally, others questionable.  Although few  considered Eula “drop dead gorgeous,” she used  her female wit and wiles to persuade men to do her bidding.

She was accused of bootlegging (illegally transporting moonshine from Georgia to Tennessee), robbery, conspiracy, bigamy, running a house of prostitution, and murder-- all before she was 25 years old.  Eula’s father reportedly told a relative that he thought that Eula  was the meanest woman who ever lived in Murray County.   She was the first woman in Georgia sentenced to die in the electric chair, at a time before Murray County even had electric service.

Governor Hardman personally involved himself in Eula’s murder case.  Newspapers across America printed stories about this rebellious woman’s exploits and legal entanglements.

CotS: Fraser Heston, director of "The Crucifer of Blood" - "A Sherlock Conversations Replay"

For a few years, I hosted a podcast called The Sherlock Conversations. We dealt with all things Sherlock Holmes (and a side of Doctor Who when the moment was right).

During that time I had the interview Fraser Heston, the son of the great Charlton Heston. He directed his father in "The Crucifer of Blood", a retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Sign of the Four."

We discuss Sherlock Holmes, directing his father, and Fraser's murder mystery book "Desolation Sound" which he wrote with Heather McAdams! Also check out his page at Agamemnon Films!

Take a trip back to the far away past of 2016 and listen in!

Enjoy!

CotS: Remembering H. Beam Piper, Science Fiction Writer

He was considered one of the greats in the world of science fiction, sadly H. Beam Piper passed away way to young back in 1964 at his own hand. However, he left behind a prolific legacy of amazing writing and some of it celebrated his and mine adopted hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

I had the chance to write an article about his life for the "Williamsport Sun Gazette." I wanted to share the article here and an audio version of his short story that the good people of Librivox posted on their site here. The story is read by an amazing reader credited as Bellona Times

To find out more about H. Beam Piper, check out the amazing sites run by David Johnson and John Carr (also note I got the image of Piper from this site) .

CotS: Adam Lamas, Filmmaker of "Empty Rooms"

About a year ago, I watched an independent movie called EMPTY ROOMS (made in 2012).

It freaked me out!

It reminded me of "THE OTHERS" with Nicole Kidman and Christopher "The Doctor When DOCTOR WHO was Good" Eccleston!

I managed to track down the director, Adam Lamas, and we began to talk.

I had to have him on "Conversations of the Strange" and he was kind enough to do an interview! He also shared a link to see his movie on Vimeo here. Use the password: Emptyrooms2323!  to see it!
