Sarah Elliott House, 849 Front Rd. S. Amherstburg
Hear about the history and arectectural significance of the Sarah Elliot House, located on 849 Front Rd. S. Amherstburg, Ontario.
The house was built in 1835 by Sarah Elliott and her son Robert Barclay Elliott. The house is on the family farm, just south of the original house which was built c.1784 and no longer exists.

266 King Street with Lighthouse Baptist Church
As we continue our journey to learn of historical buildings in Amherstburg, this episode will highlight the Lighthouse Baptist Church, located at 266 King Street.
We will be talking about the history of the building, the architecture, as well as welcoming the Pastor from the Church: Dr. Adrian Ninaber, Lead Pastor, as a guest. Adrian and his wife Rose, have a heart for people and families. They reach out to hurting families in the community through grief support and divorce counselling. Adrian holds two masters degrees and a doctorate and is also a Word Class Powerlifter. Adrian and Rose love the outdoors and spending time with their beautiful grandchildren.

Little White Church
As we continue our journey to learn of historical buildings in Amherstburg, this episode will discuss what locals in the community know as the “Little White Church”.
For this podcast, local historians Robert Honor and Stephanie Pouget Papak, will provide an overview of this building. Robert is a native of Amherstburg and retired from Parks Canada at Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada. His Interests are fine arts, architecture and heritage. Robert is an artist, member of Amherstburg Heritage Committee, Belle Vue Conservancy and Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. Stephanie is a historian who studied History and Education at the University of Windsor. Her current research examines culinary history, local History and history of sexuality. She works in museum curation and is a member of two historical committees.
We then introduce the co-owner and designer of this new hotel and lodging space, Greg Grondin and Jacquie Grondin.
Business Owner: Greg Grondin, 47 years young, married my wife Cathy with 2 children (18 year old girl Lauren and 15 year old boy Ryan). Born and raised on the family farm at the end of Howard. Grandfather and oldest brother were married in the church. Drew and I childhood friends that always talked about doing something together and this came for sale. Co own , Morton Industrial Sales and Service, GL Heritage Brewing Co, Pepper Cat Restaurant and The Little White Church.
Designer of space: Jacquie Grondin - 41 years old. Born and raised in Amherstburg. Married Dean Grondin (brother to Greg) in 2000 (21 years) 2 Daughters Elyssa (19) & Natalie (17) raised them on the family farm across from The Little White Church. Cherished many years as a stay-at-home mom volunteering weekly to Malden Central Public School. Graduated from the Interior Design Program receiving the Faculty Academic Award in 2020. ~ Drew and wife Kary Coulson are very much part of our tribe, beginning with Dean and Drew's friendship and strengthening with wives. If you’ve ever experienced a delicious meal at the Artisan Grill, you have visited the site of the former White Horse Hotel. As we walk through the Doors of Heritage for today's episode we will learn the history of the White Horse Hotel owned by William Horseman with and welcome the current business owner from Artisan Grill.

Owner and Chef of the Artisan Grill. Mathew is a sole Proprietor that opened on fall of 2012. After an extensive career in the Culinary Arts that include prestigious locations like the Chateau Lake Louise. He decided to open up the Artisan Grill In historic downtown Amherstburg.
His passion from childhood was to become a Chef and Restaurateur. His passion to provide outstanding culinary experience while enjoying high quality service with a high level of attention to detail. It is a 2 story brick commercial building built in 1841 by Peter Taylor. Currently the location for Lord Amherst restaurant. She is a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society, The Bicentennial Branch of the United Empire Loyalists, and the Belle Vue Conservancy. Debra enjoys sharing her knowledge of history and genealogy as a speaker and a writer.

As we walk through the Doors of Heritage for this episode we will learn the history of the British North American Hotel, hotel owner George Bullock and we’ll speak with the current business owner from Lot 10 Brewing Company.

Lot 10 Brewing Company is a family-owned and operated Micro Brewery located in Downtown Amherstburg. In September of 2018, they took over the lease of the property and began extensive renovations as the space was previously a retail store (St. Vincent Society ).
The Echo Printing Company Building with Caffeine & Co and the Marsh Collection

This first episode discusses one of the most recognizable buildings in Amherstburg’s downtown, the Echo Printing Company building. With this podcast, we learn the architecture of the building, its past history, and its current purpose. Thank you to Caffeine and Co and the Marsh Collection for being our first guests.

We are also honoured to have the current tenants of this building, Meg Boschin from Caffeine and Co., as well as a rep from the Marsh Collection, Meghan Ryner.
The current occupant of the building is Caffeine and Co, owned by Meghan Boschin and Mary Hearn. Caffeine and Co. opened on Aug 15th, of 2018. This Boutique style, scratch Bakery and Coffee Shop is located in the heart of beautiful downtown Amherstburg. Together, Meghan and Mary formed an unstoppable collaboration of entrepreneurialism, culinary obsession and aesthetic finery when CAFFEINE AND COMPANY was born. Hard to rival the globe over. A must visit and joyful experience for little cookie monsters and world travellers alike!!!! Serving specialty coffee, fresh baked pastries, and lovely savoury options daily!!
In order to preserve this history, we have the Marsh Collection. Today the Marsh Collection preserves an archival collection related to the Amherstburg Echo. Meghan Ryner, representative of the March Collection, provides a brief history of how the collection came to be, what the Marsh Collection does and how residents can assess the Marsh Collection.
