Dialogue with Doreen

By Doreen Richter

Life lessons from some of the current and former students and teachers in the Detroit Lakes School District who have made an impact in this world through their actions and the way they choose to live. These are ordinary people who grace this world with hope and beauty. I have put together several questions for them to answer, and we will be discussing them in this podcast. Enjoy!

Rob Ullyott: A Wrestling Season to Remember

Rob Ullyott: A Wrestling Season to Remember

In this episode, I speak with Rob Ullyott about the 2019-20 Wrestling season that will go down as one of the best in Detroit Lakes history.  We speak about some of the wrestlers and how they contributed to the culture of the program.  I hi light Andreas Barnett's "Pin to Win" in his match to clinch the third place team trophy vs. Foley.  We also talk about what it is like to coach his own boys as they make their way through the program.  Rob offers some valuable insight into teaching, coaching and parenting.  He always speaks from his heart, and this is evident in my interview with him.  I know that he has positively impacted the culture of Detroit Lakes High School with the enthusiasm and energy that he brings to the classroom and the wrestling program. Enjoy!

Detroit Lakes High School Seniors: Daniel Heikes & Kobe Braukmann

Detroit Lakes High School Seniors: Daniel Heikes & Kobe Braukmann

In this podcast, I interviewed two young men who always go above and beyond in everything that they do. Their stories are filled with candid honesty. From where they started out, to where they want to be in the future, they were open about sharing their hopes and dreams! Both of these young men have had "ripple effects" that have positively impacted our high school during their tenure here. As they are coming into the homestretch of their senior year, they share some of the memories that they will carry with them for a lifetime. Enjoy this episode!

Detroit Lakes Public School Support Services Staff: Sara Pender and Karin Fritz-Staley

Detroit Lakes Public School Support Services Staff: Sara Pender and Karin Fritz-Staley

This dialogue was so much fun as I interviewed two of my good friends and colleagues within the Detroit Lakes School District.  Both of these women have such empathy and compassion for working with students! They serve as leaders and strong role models for others  in our community.  They  are definitely people who can be counted on to " do the right thing" and go "above and beyond" with all that they do!  Sara is a high school counselor and Karin is a middle school social worker. They each have differing stories as to how they got to where they are today in their careers.  We shared an hour of conversation that included laughter and memories.  I hope that you enjoy listening to this episode as much as I did putting it together!

DLHS Senior: Emmalee Traurig

DLHS Senior: Emmalee Traurig

Emmalee is a senior who has worked as an intern in our counseling center this school year.  She has a gentle soul, and her beauty radiates from the inside out.  Emmee was born a twin, so that adds a unique twist to her story.  Emmalee's answers to the questions I ask her are well thought out and insightful.  You cannot help but smile when you hear what she has to say.  Enjoy this episode!

This is my first podcast interview.  I was excited to  interview my son, Michael Richter, graduate of the Detroit Lakes High School class or 2014.
