This final full episode of season 1 of the Arkansas Technology and Teaching Podcast is all about learning from our experiences, finding balance, and building relationships. Ms. Elise Hampton and I talk about her educational journey, her family, her favorite place in Arkansas, and the essential tools she used as a science educator. As an assistant principal, Elise is still using technology to help impact her school community keeping a keen eye on balance and relationships. We dig into her passion for student success and discuss how, as a school leader, she navigated the pandemic and how her teachers inspired her along the way.

Shannon Torell joins the podcast and shares his story of finding a passion for teaching as a second or third career. He discusses how he integrates inquiry into his middle school mathematics classroom to support both in-person and remote learners. We know that every teacher has a process for planning and choosing tech tools. Shannon tells how he chooses tools that scaffold and support deep learning in his class and gives some practical insight for lesson planning. We don't have it all figured out, but Samantha Dill and Dr. Trumble dig into how we can shift, adjust, and question when teaching in both virtual and in-person settings. This discussion reminds me that it is the little connections we make with our students that make all the difference. Listen in as we explore how this veteran teacher has made the most of her training while teaching in 2021.

This is the second episode where we talk about Computer Science and technology integration with Anthony Owen. This episode jumps right back into the conversation where we left off. I ask Anthony about the new law and the flexibility for curricular diversity it provides for schools. We talk about some more tools and outcomes for K-12 students. 

We visit with Anthony Owen who is the Director of Computer Science for the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education. Anthony is an accomplished high school teacher who became a lawyer and advocate for computer science education in Arkansas. Listen to Anthony's story and our conversation about the scope and possibilities of computer science education in Arkansas. We start the episode by asking Anthony what his favorite Arkansas restaurant is, and he gives possibly the most Arkansan answer. 

Dr. Kristen Mattson is a veteran educator and library media specialist who is known nationally for her work on media literacy and digital citizenship for K-12 learners. She wrote Digital Citizenship in Action: Empowering Students to Engage in Online Communities and recently published Ethics in a Digital World: Guiding Students through Societies Biggest Questions. In this episode, we ask Dr. Mattson some big questions and we have a little fun talking about vacations. Plus, we dig into what teachers can do right now to encourage students and families to be engaged and ethical digital citizens.

In this episode, we explore teaching with accessibility in mind. Katie Fielding joins us to discuss technology resources and teaching practices that help us reach and teach all students.
