When a situation arises, are you likely to place blame externally or take full ownership of the outcome? Or is it somewhere in-between? In the academic world, we call this locus of control, and this notion originated about 50 years ago with psychologist Julian Rotter. This is really best described as a scale with one end being an internal locus of control, and the other an external locus of control.
