Her life-long activism focuses on HIV-AIDS, queer youth, civil rights, and social justice. As a divinity student, she co-founded the first LGBT Student Union at the University of Toronto and led a successful national campaign against conversion therapy in Canada. Her efforts include partnerships to provide street-level health services to sex workers, transgender and gender non-conforming inclusion, legal aid for LGBTQ+ refugees, and resistance to police violence. She is a poet, writer, and former sex-worker. As an ordained minister, she joined the fight for equal marriage in San Francisco in 2004 and regularly performs wedding ceremonies. They are a Candidate for Holy Orders in the Episcopal Diocese of California and are in the final year of the Master of Divinity degree at Bexley Seabury Seminary, a nonresidential school based in Chicago. In addition to supporting the life of the Companions as a Formation Counselor and in numerous other practical ways, they are also a trained spiritual director and meet with folks regularly to companion them on their journey of nurturing a deeper intimacy with their spirituality/higher power/connection to the Universe/sense of self. Mama Ganuush is a survivor who has overcome multiple traumas, including religious trauma, conversion therapy, rape trauma, and the weight of African heritage and intergenerational Palestinian genocide. As a Queer activist and refugee, they found sanctuary in the Bay Area and discovered the empowering world of drag, which helped them confront gender dysphoria and build a loving chosen family. MamaGanuush established House Ganuush, a haven for acceptance, and actively contributes to the Queer arts scene through events like Vocal AF. In addition to their successful career in marketing and technology, they serve as an equity advisor and board member for nonprofits that support their community. ⚪️ Annie Depressant (she her) is one of the co winners of BNDS season 2, and was the first afab contestant and winner. She’s also a former Miss Boise Pride. And she is now performing in Seattle! She’s always used her platform to uplift others and bring joy to many! She’s a bubble gum princess pill everyone’s dying to swallow! Annie grew up going to catholic school and while she never felt free to be herself until later in life because of the church she met her best friend and fellow Boise queen Hazel. After some painful experiences from the school/church and the loss of her father she left the church when she graduated. She still uses a lot of references and iconography from her previous faith but now sits somewhere between agnostic and a sprinkle of paganism. At the end of the day inner peace as being kind to others is what she values most.

I am Jazmyn J (she/they), originally from the Philippines and moved to Los Angeles in 2000 and been living in Coeur d’Alene since 2019. I started performing in drag in December 2019 after watching an amateur Halloween drag show in Spokane, WA. I was so inspired by this group of talented and creative drag performers. When then Covid pandemic happened, it didn’t stop me from improving my craft and skills, especially makeup. I became more active on Social Media (TikTok, IG, FB, etc) to reach a wider audience and to entertain, educate, and inspire everyone. I perform live mostly in the inland Pacific Northwest area (including Central & Eastern WA, Panhandle area of Idaho). Faeryl Sweet as a performer is a mixed bag of fever dream manic pixie dream thing, and nerd culture. Raised in the Mormon church in a small, primarily Christian town in Treasure Valley. They've experienced a myriad of flavors when it comes to prejudice and misconceptions, as well as a compulsory-heterosexual marriage, coming out to themself (and others), divorce and many other things on their journey to where they sit now spiritually: features of gnosticism and agnosticism alike, a dash of that Christian upbringing, and a healthy dose of paganism and witchcraft.

As a former Disciple of Christ, Linda now uses her platform to spread the message of love, empowerment and resurrection through the art of drag. Being a first generation Guatemalan means showing her family that drag is valid and nothing to be ashamed of.

Sue Trowtower is a drag Queen from San Francisco. She performs regularly at the Monster Show, and also for The Mascara Show - SF’s sobriety-focused drag show that benefits the Castro Country Club. She is Miss Castro Country Club XII and loves to support organizations like the SF Ducal Court and uses drag to help raise money for local LGBTQ+ non-profits.

PANELIST : Imani is originally from Virginia where her came to be. Her original name was Imani Dominique St. James. It started her in her career of drag performing and having fun. When the alcohol and drugs specifically crystal meth got added into the mix all the fun stopped. When she decided to change her life and accept the gift of recovery she also changed her name to Imani Recoverai which means Faith in Recovery. Now as the reigning Miss Serenity 2021, Imani shares the joy she lives at every opportunity in the sober community because now she really lives life to the fullest. This is her second time in recovery and her recovery date is November 1, 2016. For That She Is Grateful!

As a survivor of conversion therapy, Lola spent years deconstructing her Christian faith, and healing from the trauma it had caused. Drag was the art form that broke the shame associated with Lola’s divine feminine. Being attuned to the feminine, Lola discovered Interfaith religion. She finds that all paths intersect at unconditional love. Lola’s message is one of Love, Spirt, healing and acceptance. The world needs us to shine bright and SLAY. In the words of Walter Mercado, “Mucho Mucho AMOR.”

She is a prolific YouTuber, Twitcher & host of a queer chaplain podcast (featuring series like Drag & Spirituality, TranSpirit & Faith Leaders). Bonnie co-hosts Splintered Grace with her conservative christian aunt and At the CCC recovery podcast.

Bonnie Violet shares her experience of strength and hope about living with HIV, recovery from drugs and alcohol, and healing from sexual assault in classrooms, community centers, churches, and online. As a queer chaplain, she is present with people in death and dying to self by helping to lace your personal narrative with a spiritual thread to remind you of your resilience, strengthen faith in yourself, and create serenity in the now.

She’s also a member of the Third Order of the Society of Saint Francis and a deacon in the Episcopal Church, Diocese of California.

Spiritual companioning of folx who long for a connection with God and the Church but haven’t felt wanted or safe is her passion. Her joy is promoting ethical ministry in & witnessing to the church about the sacredness of the queer community.

An early childhood educator, she is the mother of 3 adult children and occasionally gigs as a clown. She’s blessed to be a saint of the motherhouse of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a member of the Ducal and Imperial Councils of San Francisco and to work with many other community groups to promote safety in our neighborhoods and raise money and awareness for small nonprofits that serve the communities she loves.

Zoe is a nonbinary influencer/artist from Michigan. At 22 years old, she has set aside her pentecostal upbringing to explore all corners of life & learning. Zoe is also incredibly passionate about giving back to the community through her artistry; she found that the community is what you get after the gig and who the gig gets after you…so she views any opportunity to pour good energy into the world as a “MAJOR slay”. Zoe looks forward sharing the room with everyone in attendance and encourages everyone to wholeheartedly & unapologetically choose love!

Flamy’s debut album Bible Belt Baby just dropped on September 23, and it features collaborations with Semler, Jennifer Knapp, Derek Webb, and more. Her music shines a spotlight on the queer spiritual journey, telling stories of resilience and recovery from religious trauma. With a bold lip and a big lash, Flamy is here to rewrite the rules when it comes to religious music, as her songs demand a reckoning for an industry that has for too long silenced and shut out its LGBTQ+ artists and fans. Flamy is also the founder and co-host of Heathen Podcast, a show about breaking up with bad religion.

My tason performing range from in-depth character cosplays, to rock undead demon; to boy and realness. Originally I got into drag because I always wanted to be a performer. But a lot of it feel into the self discovery of who I wanted to be. I came out as trans in June 2022. This is an art form that I enjoy doing because it truly makes a difference to a new generation that hasn't had these kind of people to look up too.

As a cisgender, male-identified, white, gay person born into two dominant religions (America and Christianity), I engage the art of drag to help heal the wounds of toxic masculinity and misogyny upon my body and spirit while also transgressing patriarchal, sexist notions of God that bring harm to queer people. Drag is a new form of spirituality for me and I have found it so far to be liberating. It has also allowed me, as a religious leader, to hold space with folx who have been traumatized by purveyors of toxic religion.

PANELIST: Coco Sho-Nell was born in a small town outside of Gary, Indiana. And that town was called Chicago! Coco has been in existence for 13 years but as a theatre actor she has been performing for over 20 years. Coco is a theatre camp queen through and through. Coco is current cast member on season 4 of Camp Wannakiki on OUTtv. She also has been fortunate to have worked with some great Theatre companies in the Chicagoland area. Most notable are Theo Ubique, Fox Valley Repertory, Northlight, Red Tape Theatre and Hell in a Handbag Productions, just to names a few. Most recently Coco was named runner up as Chicago reader's best drag entertainer of 2020 and was named the grand Marshall for the Buffalo Grove pride parade in 2022

Born out of a mind corrupted by downtown Manhattan, she's appeared on stages and screens across the country with her signature blend of drag and performance art. "I like to call myself the Sarcastic Show-Ghoul of Savannah. I enjoy treading the line of femininity and masculinity and then turning that line into a squiggly. The spiritual practice I have in place for myself is a mix of Pantheism and Wicca ideals. As a young queer I had some pretty not great experiences with Christian youth group and bullying which was justified under the guise of religion. Currently I am more spiritual, and I have been doing research on Santeria, a religion that is very predominant in the Caribbean region and Mexico. I am still Catholic but not have been part of the church in many years due to the negativity to my community.

Willa/Tony is originally from Mexico City, and lived in Mexico until the age of 18. Tony was raised in a bicultural, bilingual household, as a Mexican-American. Tony grew up in a syncretic faith experience which brought together Catholicism, Native Indigenous practices, African/Caribbean/African Diaspora religious practices, as well as South Asian and East Asian practices and philosophies. Tony brings their bicultural experience and their queer identity together with a rediscovery of their faith, asking: how to maintain and develop cultural practice and tradition while decolonizing spirituality and challenging the White Supremacy that informed it? Tony's drag identity and aesthetic, Willa Vawisp, is inspired in part by their grandmother, a leader in their family faith practice and a truly powerful and fabulous woman.

Tony/Willa describes their faith experience as a discovery and will likely always be growing their faith, lest their father and grandmother come visit and whip them into shape.

Series Description

Drag & Spirituality : Named & Known, a conversation about Drag & Spirituality with hostess B0NNi33 Vi0L3T, a queer chaplain sponsored by Urban Village Church Chicago with Saya Naomi, Mick Douch, Stargirl, Fonda Koxx, Willa Vawisp & Milani. Capped off with a spiritual drag brunch, with co-host Cleo Pockalipps.

All events will air LIVE at Urban Village Church, a queer chaplain and the artists YTube & FBook and be uploaded on IG and wherever you listen to podcasts at a queer chaplain.

The Finale Spiritual Drag Brunch will take place on Feb 27th at 2pm CST, bring your own Brunch and watch LIVE. More details to come.

In each conversation B0NNi33 Vi0L3T will guide a conversation around drag & spirituality, with drag artists of a variety of spiritual experience, gender, race, age, sexual orientation, size, ability, and styles of drag. Ultimately lacing drag narratives with a spiritual thread for the benefit of the artist and the audience that bears witness.
