Underemployed | 6 Reasons it Exists (& Hurt Women More)  Underemployment is a new normal where millennials with higher education work in the labor force while being overeducated and overqualified in part-time or full-time positions. This episode explores why you may be underemployed, and the meaning of underemployment and why underemployment exists, especially for long-term unemployed women or fulltime mothers who are trying to transition back into the workforce from long-term unemployment.

The Bamboo Ceiling | 2nd Generation Asian American Workplace Challenges

The bamboo ceiling for 2nd generation Asian Americans in the West is a glass ceiling for the children of immigrants who are ethnic minorities from Asia. In this video, I cover the implicit biases and discuss the implicit association test (IAT) and the common stereotypes that Asians face with the bamboo ceiling. By outlining the problem, we can look at ways of breaking the bamboo ceiling by reinventing what Margaret Chin calls the "Asian American playbook" in her book Stuck: Why Asian Americans Don't Reach the Top of the Corporate Ladder, to circumvent discrimination by discussing Susan Fiske’s stereotype content model and other sociological research.

Implicit Bias and Diversity Training | How Implicit Bias ACTUALLY Works in Neuroscience

Implicit bias, diversity, and inclusion are hot topics in Western society. Often, the implicit association test (IAT) is used as the implicit bias test for implicit bias training. In this episode, I give the definition of implicit bias and discuss the neuroscience, psychology, and sociology of implicit and unconscious bias in the workplace. I break down the types of implicit and unconscious bias and its stereotypes by using Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking Fast and Slow. This diversity and bias training/workshop also covered the big five personality traits. This presentation was given at the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (CITT) in 2020.

Intrinsic Motivation Vs Extrinsic Motivation in the Workplace | How to Choose a Career

Intrinsic motivation vs extrinsic motivation is essential to how to choose a career at a career crossroads. According to self-determination theory (featured in Dan Pink’s Drive), intrinsic motivation, or internal motivation, is when a person is intrinsically motivated by competence, autonomy, or relatedness. In comparison, extrinsic motivation, or external motivation, is when people have external motivation such as the carrot and the stick approach. I break down motivation psychology and practical psychology for people to have career clarity during a career transition or career change. I outline these types of motivation by using intrinsic and extrinsic motivation examples with the old man story.

Setting Boundaries with a Difficult Boss by Managing Up (Start Now!)

Setting boundaries with a difficult boss requires you to learn how to set boundaries, especially interpersonal boundaries in the workplace. Setting boundaries with your manager or boss is part of “managing up,” and involves maintaining professionalism in the relationship between manager and employee and how to manage your difficult boss or difficult manager. Whether you’re able to manage up with the classic micromanaging boss or toxic boss depends on how well you set these boundaries. Regardless, working with a difficult boss requires you to know how to handle the difficult boss or how to deal with the bad manager, especially if they are a micromanager.

Jordan Peterson’s Understand Myself Couples Personality Test Review | Relationship Report

Jordan Peterson’s Understand Myself uses the Big Five Aspects Scale for its big five personality test. Recently, understandmyself.com released an Understand Myself Relationship Report which is a personality test for couples. In this video, my wife and I take Jordan Peterson’s Big Five Personality Trait’s Big Five Aspect Scale’s Understand Myself’s relationship report from understandmyself.com and we review and reflect on the couples personality test results and what it means for the big five personality traits of agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, and openness to experience. This relationship test can also be used as a marriage personality test and we discuss how soft skills are relevant to this personality test for couples.

#JordanPeterson #UnderstandMyself #PersonalityTestForCouples #DrJonTam

Disclaimer: The personality test costs money and I don't get any financial benefits from this episode. I just found it to be an interesting exercise for couples to do and wanted to share my experience.  Note: Some people have said they can't find the relationship report. I'm not affiliated with understandmyself.com, but it seems to be an option in the understandmyself.com's if you already have an account with them. After getting your individual results, you hook it up with someone else's outcomes in the dashboard (which the other person has to approve). After that, the relationship report becomes available immediately.
