Many times, we are so used to avoiding, numbing, deflecting, and distracting ourselves from problems and situations because we don't want to feel pain and suffer. But if we allow ourselves to sit in it and to find out what is it saying to us? You'll be surprised that the blessings you seek are from you sitting in and allowing yourself to feel the pain, suffering, sadness, and loneliness. It really takes mental fortitude, a mindset, and a decision to do that.

See things from a different perspective, other than a perspective of helplessness, hopelessness, loneliness, and despair. It's better to now make a decision right here right now. Are you going to continue play victim are you going to take a stance? Pull from your resilience, from your strength within, from your faith, from your hope, and from things that you've gone through before in the past that you were able to now use to your advantage to get through this now. If you were able to get through before and the past storms that you didn't think you were going to even make through, you certainly can make it through this one as well.

Making a Decision to Control your Life

You get control by making a decision. Being able to control what you consume on social media or of the media. You don't have to sit and watch the media all day every day. How else do you think that's going to impact you? That's going to help you to continue playing the victim and being helpless, being powerless, and being hopeless. All you're seeing is doom and gloom.

In preparing yourself to get control back of what you once had, you have to also give yourself grace by making that decision. You don't have to listen to every single thing that you see on social media. That is negative and bringing you down. Start looking at some things that are going to give you hope.

But if you rather be positive and have hope, then start looking at things and surrounding yourself with people and making sure that you do what is right. How do we know if our kids are bothered?

A parents’ job is to educate their children about society and the kind of situation they are going to face in their lives. It’s doesn’t matter if you are not a perfect parent because there is no such thing, what’s important is that you’re true and transparent with your children.

What's important is to stick to the facts and things that you can show and explain to your child and that way, they're not just they're just not retelling what you want them to retell. What parents need to do to help their Children

I would recommend that the parent seek some assistance to help them navigate through their feelings and help them figure out how can they address it with their child because what you don't want to do is you don't want to mess it up. After all, it's such an important conversation.

Prepping your Child as they go outside

It’s going to be the start of the conversation as they get their driver’s license. As soon as they can hop in the car by themselves, make sure that you have a list of things that they need to do when they get pulled over. It is terrifying but it should not be that way.

I tell my boys that they need to be ready, understand and listen to what their parents are telling them. You need to have a plan of action for yourself. You need to understand that just because this has happened to you does not mean that you are a bad kid.

C = Connect with your Body

Connect back with your body. You are the Genesis. You start with yourself first and then everything else will follow. So come back and connect with your body and move your body. There's something that's called Body Sculpting. If you cannot verbalize your thoughts and feelings, then sculpt them.

Make sure that you exercise your body and move your body around. Do right by your body, do what you have to do, and make sure that you are connecting and coming back to your body.

E = Engage

C = Committed Action

Committed action. This is really important because effective action is guided by your core values. So what you can do whether big or small to improve your life, and for yourself and others in your community. That means that you are aligning with your core values.

O = Opening Up

Opening up and making room for opening up to difficult feelings. Acknowledging your feelings as a normal process and considering kind words to say to yourself and support yourself and to others. Be open to what the feelings are telling you. They may be so painful. No one wants to deal with pain but nevertheless, sit in it. Because it's in sitting in that in the midst of it, your answers do truly come.

V = Values

Values mean that you have the values. Let your values guide your committed actions to demonstrate what you stand for in the face of crisis. Let your values guide the way.

I = Identify

Identify your resources. You have plenty of resources that you can use to help you along the way. Identifying your resources, identifying your support system, and identifying the information that you need.

It was like you had me to now sit and face my own narrative that I had in my head that I wasn’t important, that I was good for nothing, that I didn’t have anything going for myself.

Sitting in it. To face it, to learn from it. You see, I always say this to my clients, that there is no such thing as winning or losing. There’s no such thing. It’s either you win or you learn.
