I have often talked about how itโ€™s not necessary to be a people pleaser. I have talked about how it can rob you of your life, when you spend all your time and energy, running from pillar to post trying to do the bidding of others. You have no time for your own priorities because you inherently see yourself as less important than other people. Many people pleasers also pick and choose who they will โ€œpleaseโ€ and who they will โ€œrecruitโ€ to join their โ€œpeople-pleasing lifestyleโ€. Here is a word if you are someone who has a lot of people pleasers in your life: 1. They will subtly try to make you behave like them. 2. They will rather you shut up, and go along to get along. 3. When you stand up for yourself, a people pleaser will make you feel as though you are the bad guy. 4. They may secretly resent the fact that you have agency and you use it. 5. They are NOT victims. 6. People-pleasing is a form of control. People pleasers think that they have to โ€œmake everybody happyโ€œ. You cannot try to control everyoneโ€™s emotions, because you do not want to feel uncomfortable ones. 7. If you find yourself constantly in a tug-of-war with a people pleaser, and you are not one, try your best to extricate yourself from their drama, before they take you down with them.

* There are people who will argue with you even if you believe the same things (they are just contradictory and contrarian). ย *


ย There are some people who will argue with you just because itโ€™s you. ย 

* Those same people when they hear from others, ย they will not say ย โ€œpimโ€ * There are some people whose worldview is vastly different from yours and you still have to co- exist with them * If logic did not get them there, logic will not get them out. ย 

What to do?ย 

* Step backย 

* Remove your own emotions from the situation

ย * Think about a bug, and that you are trying to teach it calculus.ย 

* Ask yourself: can they receive what I am givingย 

* Last but not least, always remember that you can explain something to people, but you cannot understand it for them.

ย ย * Instead of trying to fit into someone elseโ€™s framework, just to keep the ย ย ย ย ย ย peace and keep your relationship with them, it is better to be your authentic self and let the chips fall where they may. ย ย ย ย ย 

ย * If you need to make changes necessary for your growth as a person, do it. It can be argued that anyone that doesnโ€™t want you to grow and become better should probably be at the periphery of your life, and not at the center. ย ย ย ย 

ย ย * Donโ€™t remain angry when peopleโ€™s attitudes toward the โ€œNew Youโ€ change. Instead of being angry and trying to force them to accept this better version of you, just re-direct your energy and emotions to the new crop of supporters that will inevitably come your way. ย 

ย ย ย ย * Donโ€™t over explain yourself. Remember, those who truly matter wonโ€™t mind and those who mind donโ€™t really matter. ย ย ย ย ย 

* Make your growth a priority. That way, you will not be distracted by other peopleโ€™s attitudes.ย 

ย *Donโ€™t condescend. Just accept that some people will be ok with the NEW YOU and some people wonโ€™t. ย

They say when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Well when life seems to have you in knots and you have more tasks and less time, here is what to do.. ย 

1. Remember you can only do one thing at a time. Worrying about all the things you have to do is not going to get them done.ย 

2. Making a to do list is so that you donโ€™t forget tasks, not something to beat yourself up with, when you โ€œonlyโ€ do 25 things out of 50. ย 

3. Instead of working off a โ€œto do listโ€, take the things from the list in order of urgency (deadlines) and importance, and assign them spots on your calendar.ย 

4. Use a calendar/ scheduleย 

5. Delegate, hire and outsource, and donโ€™t micromanage.ย 

6. Make peace with an imperfect life.ย 

7. Do calming activities so that you donโ€™t feel frantic (frantic feelings make you feel like everything is worse than it is)- meditation, breathing exercises, being out in nature etc.ย 

8. Share your struggles with a close trusted friend. ย

ย 1. Take care of your health. Donโ€™t pretend to be a superhero. Because, the day you crumble, everything youโ€™re holding up will crumble too. ย Also because you just need to. ย 

ย 2. Burnout is common, but not necessary. You do not have to fall prey to this scourge. ย ย 

3. Develop a healthy identity that doesnโ€™t involve you being a superman, a savior, a martyr, or a fixer. ย 

ย 4. If you suffered certain things on your path to becoming a doctor, it doesnโ€™t mean that you get to subject Junior Doctors to the same suffering. Do better. ย ย 

5. Get the best job you possibly can. ย 

6. Donโ€™t fall prey to the belief that there are no better jobs out there. Remember, there is a Physician shortage, not a patient shortage. ย ย 

7. Do something that you love every day. ย
