Paris is Burning
Cam watches Paris is Burning for the first time and discusses with Stephanie how the culture shown in the film goes unnoticed by a lot of people today. They also talk about the controversy surrounding the topic of compensation after the film ended up being a financial success.

Episode 48: Consent in Art About The Me Too Movement
**CONTENT WARNING: this episode has mentions of sexual harassment/assault.**
Stephanie and Cam talk about the nature of consent in image usage for another artist’s work. It’s especially important if you’re making a piece that is talking about the Me Too movement. Like…really, very, a lot important.

Episode 47: Racism and Profiling of Children at Boston MFA
Stephanie and Cameron discuss the somewhat recent story of racist fuckery unleashed on a group of 7th graders that occurred at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. They dig into the fact that there’s no way this was an isolated incident but wonder if the outcome (the museum introducing “sensitivity training” and banning former members that perpetuated racism) was enough.

Episode 46: Um...Koons You Not?
Yet another favorite artist of Stephanie’s has recently made headlines—oh wait, did I say “favorite artist”? Oh sorry, I meant another of Steph’s favorite artists to deeply despise.
Cam and Steph discuss the piece simply known as “Rabbit” by Jeff Koons, which sold at auction for a cool $91 million. While they’re glad Koons doesn’t actually see that money, they do have a thought or two on the piece itself and implications of the sale.

Just a quick announcement about Steph and Cam’s absence and an art show that’s in the works! Stay tuned for more details!
Episode 45: c o n t r o v e r s y
Steph and Cam discuss a (somewhat) recent controversy sparked by a Tweet made on webcomic artist Nathan Pyle’s Twitter about the march for life and “pro-life” movement in general back in 2017. It raised some questions and concerns amongst progressive fans about whether or not this creator is anti-abortion. Cam and Steph talk about how it seems that he has left it up to interpretation with a half-baked answer following the backlash.
Also, this episode has a handful of those infamous poOoOoOlarizing opinions, so…be warned.

Episode 43: Spaghetti OH NO
You may have heard about “SpaghettiO Girl” before, but if not, Steph and Cam would like to tell you a bit about her in this episode and give you some of their thoughts on her notorious, once-viral performance piece: “Interior Semiotics”. It involves SpaghettiO’s, a pair of scissors, students at SAIC…and, well, you might be able to fill in the rest. Beyond this, they also talk about some work by the well-known performance artist, Marina Ambramović, and why her pieces seem to have more impact than other performance works out there.

Episode 42: Project Onward
Steph and Cam talk about their experience and give a bit of a shout-out to a local non-profit called Project Onward. Plus, they share a bit about why Autism Speaks is maybe not the best organization to send your money to at this time. Or, possibly, any time.
If you DO want to support a great organization, however, you can do so by checking out Project Onward’s website: https://www.projectonward.org

Episode 41: All in A No
Cam and Steph recently found out about a play called All In A Row that went up in the UK last month. The play sounds to have been, uh, Extremely Bad…however, not everyone thought so. Which is to say, there were people who think it’s totally chill to portray autistic kids as ugly gray puppets and make reference to them being animals…? HUH. Well, Stephanie and Cam have a few thoughts on the, um, choices that were made to bring this play together.

Steph and Cam talk about some of Frida Kahlo’s works which put her health issues in the main focus. They discuss the way that Kahlo has been used as a symbol for White Feminists (TM) that partake in what is known as “Fridamania”.
In this episode, they look at the following works: Without Hope, Self-Portrait with the Portrait of Doctor Farill, and The Broken Column.

Episode 38: Propaganda ExtravaGAAANZA
Do the political works of contemporary painter Jon McNaughton have similarities to those of Thomas Benton Hart? And is McNaughton’s work straight up propaganda? Or does all his work basically say: stop being mean to Dahnowd Twump! He’s twying to make America GREAT by ruining the lives of millions of Americans and putting babies in cages and stuff! Will the artist and his dear subject will make it through these hard and trying times? Steph and Cam talk about this in regards to one of McNaughton’s recent paintings, "National Emergency".

Episode 37: Seriously, Guillaume Verda? C'mon.
Steph sent Cam an article about an artist in France whose show was recently pulled due to accusations of plagiarism. When critics said, “Gee, this dude’s work sure looks a lot like Jean-Michel Basquiat’s stuff.” (but in French), Verda claimed to not even know who Basquiat was. Cam and Stephanie dig into this claim on this episode, and…spoiler alert…they’re not buying it.

Just a note going forward! Steph and Cam are going to start releasing episodes on Sunday and they’re gonna shoot for shorter, more digestible episodes, too! Hopefully y’all enjoy them!
In this one, Steph and Cam are talking about Webcomics and how and why they seem to resonate with millennials. Their relatability, their instant messages, and share-ability are just some of the things that make these works huge hits with our humble group of debt-ridden peers.

Episode 34 - The Art of Jean-Michel Basquiat
In honor of Black History Month, Steph and Cam wanted to talk about some of the life and works of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Tune in as they discuss their thoughts on 3 of his works: The Irony of the Negro Policeman, Untitled (1982), and Riding With Death. And since Andy Warhol was in Basquiat’s life, they also get side-tracked and talk a bit his most recent re-surfacing in a Burger King ad. Are they impressed with it? Ehhh. Do they really enjoy Basquiat’s work? YEEEAH! Yep, even Stephanie enjoys the wild lines and bold colors. It’s too hard not to.

Episode 30 - Resolutions, Updates, and DAC "Lore"...
Steph and Cam have returned! Cam got these new lapel mics and it turns out…they’re, uh…NOT GREAT. So, apologies for the poor audio quality! They’ll go back to their old, much better-sounding mics next time—promise!
In this episode, Steph and Cam discuss resolutions, both personal and for the podcast, what went down on the several-week-long break and bid a fond farewell to fake commercials. At least…for now. After the break, they dig into just why it is Steph has a distaste for Jackson Pollock. Also, Cam reveals there’s an artist's work they’re not so fond of either. Who could it be? WHO KNOWS?! Guess you’ll just have to listen to find out!

Episode 24: Take That All the Way to The Banksy! Featuring Paul Myers!
Nothing; it all has not a thing to do with Banksy. So…do these topics get spoken about in this episode about Banksy? You bet’chur bottom. But don’t worry…we do in fact talk about the whole Banksy shredding the artwork at the auction thing. And joining us this time around is Paul Myers (https://www.instagram.com/paultmyers) ! Listen to us chat about stuff like: what was the message there? If money was no object, would we buy a damaged piece from our favorite artist? Or what about our own artwork? Could we destroy it to make a statement?

And yes, the episode does touch on serious topics, but we do have a chuckle or two. You may even hear about something that reveals just how white Cam is when they admit they might be a *little* interested in the idea of an art show centered around paintings of Lassie (yes the dog).

Episode 22 (Mini Episode): The Meme-ing of Art
They briefly ponder things like: is nostalg-art (nostalgia + pop art) a thing? Are Vines the first true video-style memes? And they wonder if maybe memes are, more than anything, a form of non-confrontational communication with others. Also, can memes that use combinations of art or media with silly text be separated? In other words, could the MEME be…unSEEN?
They also try to sing the Space Jam theme at one point. It’s bad. Real bad.

Episode 18: Inspirations and Mentors (Kinda)
So…full disclosure: Steph and Cam are getting *really* close to locking down their new schedules IRL, but they’re both still in the middle of some hectic (but ultimately very positive) changes. That being said, they decided to do a slightly more personal episode. This week, they talk about who (and what) their biggest inspirations have been over the years. Also, sorry for some of the louder moments…headphone listeners, be warned.

Episode 17: Get The Font Away From Me
Anywho. This episode is all about designs…the good, the bad…the minimal. Steph and Cam talk about a local restaurant called Walker Bros., which, as Cam likes to say, “Has great food and a terrible menu“. They also discuss the cosmetic line, Benefit and get into their thoughts about what it is that even makes design good. Also, they chat about a shared favorite design: Secret Hitler. Also, Steph and Cam discover that they both enjoy two different brands (Brandless and The Ordinary) whose whole thing is…like…no brand? Don’t worry, you’ll see what they mean.

Episode 15 (Sober Art Chat Pt. 1): Let's Get Animated! Featuring Paul Myers!
Stephanie’s partner, Paul Myers, joins in for a *sober* art chat (Steph was on antibiotics and not looking to mix meds with booze). Travel with them to a little-known place (lol jk) called the nineties/early 2000’s as they all discuss some popular animated shows and whether or not they think cartoons are just for kids. Hear talk of Arthur memes, struggles separating Ren and Stimpy’s creator from the show, and somewhat terrifying Ash Ketchum impressions!
They touch on shows like Gumby, Unico, Liquid Television, Daria, Home Movies, Dr. Katz, The Critic, and a buttload more. Also in this episode, a discussion around politics in cartoons and examination of Disney’s “Der Fuehrer's Face” and ways in why they think it is people forgive racism in cartoons. Paul discusses his experiences animating and both he and Cam geek out over rotoscoping. Plus, soon much more!
