By Duck Legs

How to be more like a duck. The Duck Legs Podcast is a show hosted by Doctors of Physical Therapy seeking to gain wisdom and knowledge from successful professionals. The podcast is focused around this quote by Jacob Braude: “Always behave like a duck- keep calm and unruffled on the surface, but paddle like the devil underneath.” We're trying to go beneath the surface to learn the tools and traits that give our guests the mindset to overcome challenges and thrive. The podcast will be an inside look into how our guests are able to work so efficiently and impact positive change.

Avoiding 1-Rep Max Living | Duck Bite with Dr. Scotty Butcher

Avoiding 1-Rep Max Living | Duck Bite with Dr. Scotty Butcher

Here's a quick gem about functional reserve and building capacity in older adults from a classic episode with The Strength Jedi, Dr. Scotty Butcher!

"If your 1RM squat is your bodyweight you’re in trouble as time goes on. If you’re not trying to build that at some point you won’t be able to get out of a chair, the higher your overall strength and fitness levels the greater you can deal with those age-related declines."

Thanks for listening!

Understanding Empathy vs Sympathy and Why People Riot

Understanding Empathy vs Sympathy and Why People Riot

Jared & Tyler have a tough conversation about the shooting of Jacob Blake, Breonna Taylor, and the events in Kenosha, WI. The two discuss systemic oppression and how "well-meaning" people can be complicit in perpetuating oppressive thought viruses. Other topics discussed include the challenges of being an ally, rioting, understanding human rights violations, defunding the police, Grand Theft Auto, and The Boondocks.

SYMPATHY = acknowledging that the other person is going through an emotional or physical struggle, supporting them and giving them comfort.

EMPATHY = something more than just this. It’s actually understanding what the other person is feeling because you’ve had a similar experience yourself or you’re able to put yourself in their shoes.

We learn about the history of racism and oppression in healthcare and how this can affect how a provider addresses an individual's unique experience of pain.
